Diablo 4 Andariel Guide: Location, Lair Key, Fight and Loot
Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish, appears in Diablo IV's campaign and as a repeatable Greater Lair Boss. This guide covers the latter: where to find Hanged Man's Hall, how its reward Hoard works, what to watch during the fight and how to assess its loot. The encounter has changed since its original Season 4 release. In particular, old lists of materials used to summon the boss do not describe the current Lair Boss system.
If you want to browse related activities, visit the Diablo 4 category. The campaign fight and the repeatable Lair Boss are separate encounters; a story walkthrough will not explain the current reward system.
Requirements for the Andariel Lair Boss
Andariel is a Greater Lair Boss. Blizzard's Lair Boss rework made these fights available from Torment difficulty onward. You can enter and attempt the fight without consuming the old summoning materials. After the kill, a Hoard appears; opening your own reward Hoard requires the appropriate Lair Boss Key. Each party member who wants its rewards needs their own key.
Prepare a build that can survive poison, fire and other elemental attacks, and check your resistances before entering. Damage helps, but the fight also asks you to move out of projectiles and rotating beams. If you are learning the encounter, practice the mechanics at a difficulty your character can handle before spending a key on the Hoard.
Older advice about a fixed character level, Glyph level or summoning recipe belonged to previous versions of Diablo IV. The current system is tied to the game's Torment difficulties and Lair Boss Keys. Check the current requirements shown on the game's lair map rather than following an archived materials list.
Andariel Location: Hanged Man's Hall
Find Hanged Man's Hall in Kehjistan, east of the Tasarak area. Blizzard named this lair when Andariel entered the boss ladder, and the current boss guide still lists it as her home. Boss Lairs have their own map icons. Once you have discovered a lair, the map can offer a direct teleport to it and show which key is needed for its Hoard.
Enter Hanged Man's Hall and make your way to the altar for the Andariel encounter. If you are travelling with a group, agree on a difficulty before the fight; each player opens their own Hoard after the kill. Do not confuse the altar with the old material payment system: the key is for claiming the reward Hoard.
How to Access Andariel and Claim Her Hoard
Travel to Hanged Man's Hall and interact with the altar to start the fight. The old recipe involving Pincushioned Dolls and Sandscorched Shackles is no longer a summoning requirement. Under the Lair Boss system, the reward is in a Hoard that appears after the boss dies. You need a Greater Lair Key to open Andariel's Hoard, and a party member's key does not open yours.
The current Andariel guide lists one Greater Lair Key for her reward Hoard. Key sources include Key Spoils from War Plans, Helltide Tortured Gifts, World Bosses, Legion Events, Tree of Whispers caches and the Kurast Undercity. In-game rewards and key sources can change with game updates, so check the key requirement in the lair description before planning a farm session.
Blizzard originally named the Pincushioned Doll as Andariel's specific Lair Boss Key during the Season 8 overhaul. Later updates changed the key system, so old Pincushioned Doll quantities and transmutation recipes should not be treated as current instructions. This is why the previous recipe table has been removed rather than adjusted by guesswork.
How to Defeat Andariel in Diablo 4
Andariel tests movement more than a fixed damage rotation. Her attacks include a forward dash, poison projectiles and statues that create rotating fire beams. Keep enough room to dodge, especially when the statues appear. Her stagger bar offers a damage window once filled, but do not stand in a beam to finish a cast.
Read the arena before attacking
At the start, watch her dash and the arc of poison projectiles. A hit from a projectile can leave poison damage over time, so moving out of the arc matters even when the initial impact seems manageable. When she disappears, look for the objects that must be dealt with before the encounter resumes. Keep moving around the arena rather than chasing damage through a hazard.
The rotating fire beams are a common cause of failed attempts. Watch the direction of rotation and move with enough space to avoid the beam as well as any remaining projectiles. Icy Veins' current fight guide describes statues around the platform during the later part of the encounter. If you have to choose, preserving room to dodge is usually more useful than squeezing in one extra attack.
Prepare defenses for multiple damage types
Andariel's kit has included Shadow, Fire, Lightning and Poison since her introduction to the boss ladder. The present guide emphasizes poison projectiles and rotating fire. Bring a build with adequate elemental defenses and survivability for your chosen Torment difficulty. If your resistances are weak, adjust gear or consumables before attempting to spend a key on rewards.
A mobility skill helps you avoid a beam or recover from a poor position. Save an escape for a dangerous overlap rather than spending every movement option to close distance. In a group, spread enough to read the hazards, then regroup when the arena is clear. The fight does not require a particular class or rigid tank/healer setup.
Use the stagger window deliberately
Andariel has a stagger bar, as do other Lair Bosses. When it fills, the boss is briefly stunned. This is a good time for high-damage abilities, but the timing changes with your build and the encounter. Do not rely on an old guide's exact health percentages for every transition: current patches have adjusted invulnerability behavior, including rules that can let sufficient damage bypass a shield phase.
If an attempt fails, identify which mechanic caused it. Poison damage calls for better positioning or resistance; a rotating beam calls for earlier movement. Reducing the game's Torment difficulty can help you learn her pattern before trying a harder version. The key cost is connected to opening the Hoard after a successful fight, so use the encounter itself to practice.

Andariel Loot and Mythic Uniques
Andariel is a Greater Lair Boss with a specific Unique item pool. Once she is defeated, each eligible player can spend their own Lair Boss Key to open a reward Hoard. The exact pool and item quality can change with patches and the selected Torment difficulty; consult an updated in-game or specialist loot list before farming a particular item.
The older table on this page listed class items from a previous ruleset, including Uniques that no longer belonged to Andariel's focused pool. Blizzard later broadened and partly shared the Greater Lair Boss pools, then adjusted Mythic Unique drops again. Keeping that table would imply precision it no longer has, so it has been removed.
Mythic Uniques are rare. Blizzard's current season notes say that Mythic Uniques from Initiate and Greater Lair Bosses come from that boss's Unique item pool, while generic random loot can still provide a small chance outside the focused pool. The notes also describe increased Mythic Unique drop rates for Lair Bosses. None of that means a particular kill will produce a specific item.
For players comparing gear options, the active Mythic unique items category is still linked here. Its product details should be checked separately from the in-game loot rules described above.
How to Farm More Efficiently
- Choose the item you want first and check whether Andariel's current focused pool contains it. Boss pools have changed, so an old table may send you to the wrong lair.
- Gather Greater Lair Keys from current activities before starting a repeated farm. The lair map and your inventory show whether you can open the Hoard.
- In a party, confirm that each player who wants the reward has their own key. Sharing a boss kill does not share a Hoard unlock.
- Consider whether your build can complete the encounter consistently at the selected Torment difficulty. Fast, reliable kills can matter more than forcing a difficulty that causes repeated deaths.
Do not base a farming plan on the old claim that one player pays to summon the boss while the whole party gets full rewards. Blizzard changed this specifically so each player claims their own Hoard with their own key.
Choosing a Build for Andariel
No single class or build is required for this encounter. A useful boss build has enough single-target damage to end the fight, defenses against elemental damage and a reliable way to move out of projectiles and fire beams. A build that looks strong on a season tier list may still struggle if its gear or defenses are incomplete.
If you are adapting a general endgame build, start by checking your resistances and mobility. Then test how comfortably you handle the stagger window and how quickly you can deal with the arena objects. Adjust one issue at a time after each attempt. Builds and balance change often enough that the old fixed list of Season 8 build links is not a dependable ranking for the current game.
Use current build guides as a starting point, but verify their season and patch before copying gear or skills. The most practical choice is a build you can play consistently while reading Andariel's hazards.

Conclusion
Andariel is still found in Hanged Man's Hall, but the old summoning and loot instructions no longer apply. Enter on an available Torment difficulty, learn the dash, poison projectiles and fire beams, then use your own Greater Lair Key to open the Hoard after a successful kill. Check the current focused loot pool before spending keys to farm a specific Unique.
