Riding Skill is a new skill introduced in New World allowing players to utilize mounts, brought into the game
with the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion. Numerous mounts will be available, and the higher your Riding
Skill, the more capabilities of each mount you can unlock.
The first mount is unlocked at level 25, with the quest available in the settlements of Windsward or
Everfall. The leveling up process for the Riding Skill is achieved through completing special Quests for
Mounts, as well as taking part in Tours and Rallies. Additionally, there's special food for mounts which
also grants XP towards your Riding Skill. Each individual mount has both unique and common characteristics
shared among all mounts, along with customization elements that unlock as you progress. But let's break it down step
by step!
Riding Skill Rewards
Like other Trade Skills, the Riding Skill consists of 250 levels, and with each new level, you'll receive various
rewards such as:
- Increasing the speed of your mount.
- Unlocking new visual customizations for your mount.
- A chance to obtain additional mounts.
- Special buffs enhancing the abilities of your mounts.
- Food specially designed for mounts to boost speed and other mount characteristics.
Currently Available Mounts in the game
Horses - These are the most basic mounts, with the first one, as mentioned, becoming available at level 25. At
the release of the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, horses have 9 different color variations, 3 of which are
unlocked through gameplay. They are:
- Moonshadow - a light grey shade.
- Benson - grey and white spotted coloration.
- Golda - light golden color with a bright yellow saddle.
- Additionally, six more Horse skins can be acquired from the in-game store: Mighty Gregorious,
Solomon, Atlas, Snow, Midknight, and Spectrum.
Dire Wolf - This is a massive war wolf, the same one showcased in the Rise of the Angry Earth
cinematic. The quest to obtain it is available starting from level 45. Like horses, Dire Wolf is available in 9
different color variations, with gameplay unlocking such colors as:
- Runa - dark grey color.
- Bloodfeast - black color with a white saddle.
- Wolfgang - light grey spotted color.
- Additionally, six more Dire Wolf skins can be acquired from the in-game store: Ira, Amani, Charaka,
Blanca, Blake, Iridiana.
Lion - A powerful war lion with a fearsome mane, the quest to unlock it can be received at the maximum level of 65. The Lion comes in 10
different color variations, 4 of which are unlocked through gameplay:
- Kodger - the classic yellowish-red hue typical for lions.
- Yae Hua - beige color with a dark brown mane.
- Scurge - beige color with a bright red mane.
- Godfrey - white-grey color with a light grey mane.
- Additionally, six more Lion skins can be acquired from the in-game store: Argus, Evania, Beatrix,
Albus, Kumba, Ngan.
Buffs for Mounts
Spice up your ride with some cool mount buffs. Each item sticks with you once you pick it up, needs a certain Riding
level, and can go together with one more mount buff. Grab these rare goodies through quests, rewards from leveling up
your Riding skill, and finding them while roaming the open world. Trust me, from what I've seen, these buffs make
riding around a whole lot more fun, giving each ride its own special vibe.
We found the following buffs in the game, and gathered a small collection for you:
- Beast of Burden Bangle: Boosts your tolerance when encumbered.
- Cavalier Crest: Cuts down the time it takes to summon.
- Mountaineer’s Pendant: Lessens the damage you take when landing.
- Healing Talisman: Gives you a Heal when you're forced off your mount.
- Hastey Talisman: Speeds you up with Haste when you're forced off your mount.
- Fortified Talisman: Fortifies you when you're forced off your mount.
- Empowered Talisman: Empowers you when you're forced off your mount.
- Cleansing Talisman: Cleanses you when you're forced off your mount.
- Other mount buffs will give your Dash Capacity, Power, or Recharge speed a nice little bump.
Our Conclusion and Tohgts about
Riding Skills and Mounts
Mounts are a splendid addition to New World, something players have been long awaiting. From my own
experience, I can say that riding a mount feels simply superior. You can feel the speed, the physics,
the power, and how the mount interacts with the environment, the sounds are also fabulous, making
traveling across New World's landscape way more intriguing now. Experiencing PvP on a mount adds a special
thrill to the game. With the introduction of the Riding Skill, the rules of open world
PvP battles
have taken a new turn. And of course,
with mounts, it's much easier and faster to travel around Aeternum, and gather resources which positively affects your
earning of New World Coins. It makes you think
about the potential this game mechanic has, and what new exciting mounts will be introduced in the future. Just for
the mounts, it's worth returning to New World and trying out the new Rise of the Angry Earth expansion.
My respect to the development team for the work done!
