Housing Decor in World of Warcraft
Housing is live in World of Warcraft: Midnight, and collecting decor is a reason to revisit old quests, achievements, professions and dungeons as well as current neighborhood activities. You can start a collection through gameplay even if you have not yet set up a home. This guide explains where to look for items, how to identify a repeatable source and what to check before planning a long farming route. Blizzard's Midnight launch overview confirms that the full Housing feature is live.
Start with the in-game Housing Catalog. Blizzard describes it as a place to preview available pieces, inspect their source and temporarily place an item to see whether it fits. An item that looks good in a list may be too large for your room or require a different color. Make a short wish list, then pursue the source shown for each specific item. There is no single activity that provides every decoration.
Quick route to your first room
- Claim a house and choose a room or outdoor area to furnish.
- Preview pieces in the Housing Catalog and note which ones you already own.
- Visit your neighborhood vendors for basic furniture and accents.
- Check whether your professions can craft the piece you want, or whether another player has listed it on the Auction House.
- Look through completed achievements and quests for decor you may already have earned.
- Join the current neighborhood Endeavor for themed vendors and Community Coupons.
The home itself and placement require Housing access through Midnight. Blizzard has also said players can begin collecting some decor before gaining access to a home. For a new account, separate the goal of obtaining decor from the goal of placing it: the Catalog helps you plan both.
How the decor collection works
Housing rewards are shared across your Warband, so a piece earned by one character can support the home you decorate with another. Individual copies still matter when you want to place the same chair or lamp more than once. For many one-time quest and achievement rewards, the first completion unlocks a way to obtain additional copies, usually from a relevant vendor and for the currency that vendor uses. Check the item's Catalog entry before assuming every copy comes from the same NPC.
Blizzard's Rewarding Decor overview gives the example of the Jewelcrafter's Tent from The Perenolde Tiara. After earning the first tent, a player can buy more in Stormwind. The achievement decor guide distinguishes trophy decor from ordinary repeatable items: non-trophy achievement decor can be reacquired from vendors, but a trophy may follow a different rule. Always check that distinction rather than assuming every item is freely duplicable.
The earlier guide imposed a rigid three-rank taxonomy of “Commodities, Investments and Trophies” and a long fixed category list. Those labels are not the best way to determine a particular item's source or repeatability in the live Catalog. Use the source and ownership information displayed for that exact piece. Categories can help you browse by shape or theme; they do not replace checking how the item is earned.
Quests and achievements
Many quests across expansions grant decor. Blizzard said quests that gained decor rewards at Midnight launch would grant them retroactively to players who had already completed them. This can make your collection larger before you intentionally farm a single piece. Open the Catalog and review the quest source before rerunning old content on an alt. A one-time quest may not be repeatable for another copy; the linked vendor may be the intended route instead.
The Perenolde Tiara's Jewelcrafter's Tent is an Alliance example from Blizzard's overview. The same article names the Akunda Tapestry from Clearing the Fog and the Shaohao Ceremonial Bell from an old Pandaria quest. Those examples show why a source can be a legacy quest rather than a Midnight zone. They do not mean every old quest rewards decor. Follow the specific Catalog entry and any faction requirement.
Achievements can reward decor from exploration, PvP, raids, professions and other activities. Some achievements you finished before Housing began may already have unlocked their items. Blizzard's achievement list names the reward, source and additional-copy vendor for many pieces. If you need multiple copies, check the vendor and currency; an achievement may only grant the initial item once per account.
Do not assume that an achievement's category is the location of its vendor. A trophy earned in a raid may be sold later by an NPC somewhere else. Verify the item name and vendor from the source list or Catalog before traveling across Azeroth. This is especially useful for collections with several similar beds, lamps or wall hangings.
Dungeon and raid drops
Blizzard has assigned decor to selected dungeon and raid bosses. In a dungeon, the decor belongs to the final boss; in a raid, individual bosses can have their own pieces. The official rewards overview says that when a boss has a decor drop assigned, it drops one piece per kill. The condition matters: most bosses did not have decor at the initial launch, and the back catalog is being expanded. Do not enter an old instance expecting a decoration from a boss that has none listed.
Examples from Blizzard include the Thunder Totem Brazier from Neltharion's Lair, the Gilnean Circular Rug from Shadowfang Keep and the Fate of All Life Painting from Waycrest Manor. Check the current loot or Catalog entry before a farming run, especially if you want a specific item rather than any dungeon-themed piece. Multiple copies require additional eligible clears under the game's usual lockout rules.
For a raid piece, identify the exact boss rather than simply the raid name. If a decoration is attached to an individual boss, clearing a different encounter cannot substitute for it. A group can plan the shortest route to its target when the instance permits, but never promise a particular drop from an unlisted encounter. The source listing is the useful first step.
Professions and the Auction House
Crafting professions produce decor from multiple eras of World of Warcraft. Blizzard's profession examples include Dalaran Display Shelves made through Legion Inscription, Draenei Holo-Dais through Outland Enchanting and Valdrakken Fences through Dragon Isles Jewelcrafting. The required expansion skill and recipe source matter. Check the recipe in your profession panel before buying a large stock of materials.
The Blizzard overview said most expansion recipes become available after substantial skill progress in that expansion's profession, with many learned from the appropriate trainers. That is a useful direction, not a substitute for the actual recipe requirements on your character. If you do not have that profession, crafted pieces may be available from another player through trade or the Auction House. Compare that path with leveling an old expansion skill from scratch.
Lumber and dyes support some decorating and crafting paths. Dyes apply only to eligible decor. Do not assume every chair or wall piece can be recolored; preview the selected item in the Catalog. Materials and color choices change the final result, so confirm what the recipe or item needs before committing resources. A piece's visual theme can come from its expansion-specific crafting source as well as its color.
Reputation and neighborhood vendors
Faction vendors across Azeroth sell some decor after the relevant reputation or other unlock. An old faction may have a piece that fits your home better than a current-zone set. Check the item's stated requirement and currency in the live Catalog. A reputation level earned years ago may save you a new grind, while a piece tied to another faction may require a different character or vendor.
Neighborhood vendors are the straightforward source for foundational pieces. Alliance Founder’s Point and Horde Razorwind Shores have different themed sets. Blizzard's decor overview gives examples such as gazebos, chandeliers, textiles and plants, and says smugglers in each neighborhood offer decor from the other side. Look at both sets before deciding that a faction theme is unavailable to you.
A vendor item can have an unlock requirement even if it is sold in your neighborhood. Read the tooltip and the Endeavor status if the NPC or item is missing. For a budget room, start with a small set of matching pieces and repeat the shapes or colors you like. Buying many unrelated items at once can make it harder to see what you actually need.
Endeavors and other current activities
Endeavors are live neighborhood-wide activities. Residents contribute to themed tasks, which can unlock visiting vendors, decor and Community Coupons. Blizzard's pre-expansion update introduced the live system, and its later Endeavor overview describes more themed activities and rewards. Check the current Endeavor in your neighborhood: the visitors and available pieces rotate with the event.
Endeavors are useful if you enjoy contributing to a shared goal while collecting a coherent theme. They are not the only source of decor, and they do not require you to finish every quest alone. If a desired item belongs to a visitor who is not currently present, keep it on your wish list and continue with a quest, profession or vendor source meanwhile.
Delves and other Midnight activities also contribute decor, but the exact source of each piece should be checked in the Catalog. The old article said players must wait for Midnight to learn about Delve rewards; that wait is over. A broad statement that “Delves offer decor” does not identify a particular item, difficulty or completion condition. Search the item first, then plan the activity that actually awards it.
Use the Catalog before you farm
The Catalog shows possible decor as well as what you own. Blizzard says it can preview a temporary placement in your home. That is a practical tool for deciding whether a piece is worth pursuing: test its size, orientation and color with the room you have. If it is a reward from a completed achievement, look for the additional-copy vendor; if it is a crafted item, check the recipe and trade options; if it is a boss piece, confirm the assigned encounter.
Housing has continued to change after the Midnight launch. The Curse of Ula'tek update added Blueprints that can save or share room, interior, exterior or whole-house layouts, and also expanded pet placement through Pet Beds. Those features affect how you can reuse a design, but they do not automatically grant the decor in someone else's Blueprint. If you want to work from a shared Blueprint, inspect which pieces you lack before pursuing them. Prioritize the large structural pieces or dominant colors that define the room; use owned alternatives for small accents. A saved layout is a design reference and time saver, not a new source of furniture.

Choose a theme or room and make a short list of decor you can obtain through different paths. Start with neighborhood vendors and pieces already unlocked through your Warband. Add one profession-made item or an Auction House purchase if it fits. Then pursue a quest, achievement, boss or current Endeavor for a focal piece. That sequence gives you a usable room while leaving larger collections as long-term goals.
