WoW Housing Overview: Player Housing in Midnight
Player housing gives your Warband its own home in a neighborhood of World of Warcraft. You need Midnight to claim a house, and once you have one, every character of your Warband can use it and share the decor you collect. This overview is up to date for Midnight Season 2 and patch 12.1.5 and covers how to get a house, how to level it, how neighborhoods work and what patch 12.1.7 changes.
What WoW housing is
Each house stands on a plot inside a neighborhood. Founder’s Point is the Alliance neighborhood zone and Razorwind Shores the Horde one, so a Warband with characters of both factions can own a house in each. Characters of the other faction can still visit. Public neighborhoods are run by the game, and private ones are organised by players, for example a guild.
Blizzard designed the system without a plot lottery and without upkeep, and your house is not taken away when your subscription runs out. You still need an active subscription or game time to play, and every edition of Midnight includes housing.
How to get a house
Returning players with Midnight get a quest that leads to the housing introduction, and new players can pick it after the opening boat scene. Follow it to choose a neighborhood, claim a plot and learn the house editor. Press H to open the Housing Dashboard with your house and the Decor Catalog.
The same introduction unlocks lumber gathering, which you need for most crafted decor. Plot prices and moving costs can differ, so check the live interface before you move to another plot or neighborhood.
House level, rooms and Blueprints
Your house levels up with house XP, which you get when you collect a piece of decor for the first time and when you finish Endeavor tasks. Patch 12.1 raised the cap to level 12 and added large exteriors and Artisanal Rooms, and higher levels raise the budget for how much decor you can place. Visit the General Contractor in your neighborhood to apply an upgrade once you have the XP.
Blueprints save a room, an interior, an exterior or the whole house, and you can keep 50 of them plus 10 autosaves. A Blueprint does not give you decor you have not collected, and other players can only export your house if you allow it, which is off by default. Pet Beds let up to 100 of your pets live inside and 25 outside, although not every pet can use them.
Patch 12.1.5 made the editor easier to handle. Page Up and Page Down switch floors in the floorplan editor, the Blueprints Collection opens faster, rooms connected by a stairwell export together, and the dye list only shows dyes you still have.
Neighborhoods and Endeavors
Endeavors are shared goals for a neighborhood that change roughly once a month. Every task you finish gives Community Coupons and house XP, and the neighborhood’s progress unlocks more stock at the Endeavor vendor. Since 12.1.5 a public neighborhood no longer gets the same Endeavor twice in a row. Joining an active neighborhood helps, because more neighbors fill the shared progress faster.

Where decor comes from
Most decor comes from quests and achievements, Midnight vendors, profession crafting, bosses in dungeons, raids and Delves, Endeavors, PvP and holidays. Old quests and achievements count retroactively, so a returning player often has a large collection on day one. Hearthsteel and the shop
Some housing items are sold in the shop for Hearthsteel, which you buy with Battle.net Balance, and a WoW Token bought for gold can be turned into Balance. You do not need Hearthsteel to own a house or to place decor you earned in the game. The newest shop offer is the Haunted Grimtide Estate with its own exterior and foyer, and the separate Grimtide Decor Pack is on sale until December 1, 2026.
What patch 12.1.7 changes for Housing
Patch 12.1.7 is on the PTR without a release date. It fixes decor that turned on its own when the game converted it to the new rotation format: after the patch, edit your house once and the decor is saved in the new format. The patch also adds new decor to the Timewalking vendors during Turbulent Timeways and Talebound decor bought with Bound Silver. PTR changes can still move before release.
