World of Warcraft player housing is live in Midnight. Players who own the expansion can claim a plot, decorate a home and join a neighborhood. Housing began in early access before Midnight launched; it is now an active game feature, not an upcoming PTR test.

What Is WoW Player Housing?
Housing gives your Warband a customizable home in a shared neighborhood. Founder's Point is the Alliance zone; Razorwind Shores is the Horde zone. If your Warband has characters from both factions, you can own a house in each. Characters can visit the homes across faction lines, and collected décor is shared across the Warband.
Public and private neighborhoods make this a social feature. Blizzard says there is no plot lottery or upkeep and your house is not repossessed if your subscription lapses. You still need Midnight to claim a house and active subscription or game time to play.
WoW Housing Release and Access
Housing Early Access began on December 2, 2025 for Midnight owners. Midnight launched on March 2, 2026, so Housing is available now. Old PTR windows and pre-order instructions are historical context, not steps a new player needs to follow.
Players without Midnight can visit neighborhoods and collect some décor through activities, achievements and vendors. They cannot claim a plot or join a neighborhood until they add the expansion to their account.
How to Unlock and Claim a Home
Returning players who own Midnight receive a quest directing them to the Housing tutorial. New players can choose the tutorial after the initial new-player boat sequence. Follow its prompts to select a neighborhood, claim a plot and learn the House Editor. Open the Housing Dashboard with H to view your home and the Decor Catalog.
Your Warband shares its homes and décor collection across characters. An Alliance and Horde character can each own a home in their faction's neighborhood zone. You do not need to collect the same décor again for each character.
Blizzard confirms low entry costs and no upkeep, but do not assume every plot or move has the same gold price. Check the live interface before changing plots or neighborhoods. The old preview's exact cost and free-move promise are not reliable current instructions.
Customization and Decoration
Use the House Editor to arrange rooms and place furnishings from your Warband collection. Basic Mode makes placement simple; Advanced Mode offers finer control of position, rotation and scale. Exterior choices and room layouts let you adapt the home as you collect more options.
The Decor Catalog in the Housing Dashboard shows available items, their sources and requirements. You can preview a temporary version in your home before earning or buying it, which helps you plan a room without committing resources first.
Neighborhoods and Endeavors
Public neighborhoods are created by the game and open to eligible players. Private neighborhoods let a guild or eligible group organize its community. The early-access rules for guild neighborhoods were narrower; check current Steward options when forming one.
Endeavors are neighborhood activities with visiting groups, shared progress and décor rewards. They became available after early access and continue to rotate with content updates. The Housing Dashboard shows current neighborhood progress and activities. Joining an active neighborhood can help you work toward its rewards.
How to Get Housing Items In Game
Décor comes from quests, achievements, vendors, professions and activities across Azeroth. Crafting uses materials and recipes from many eras of the game. Find a piece you want in the Decor Catalog, check its listed source, then decide whether to craft it, buy it from a vendor or earn it through an activity.
Neighborhood Endeavors add rotating tasks and visiting vendors with décor. Blizzard's stated design is that the vast majority of housing items are earnable in game and a smaller selection appears in the shop. That does not mean every shop-only piece also drops from gameplay; check the specific item's acquisition path.
Hearthsteel and the Optional Shop
Hearthsteel buys housing items in the in-game and Battle.net shops. It is purchased with Battle.net Balance. You do not need it to claim a home or use in-game décor. Shop items are available individually, with bundles offered separately.
Blizzard says Hearthsteel is for Housing and currently has no plans to use it for the Trading Post, mounts, transmogs or pets. A WoW Token bought for gold in modern WoW can be redeemed for Battle.net Balance, which can be used for eligible purchases. Token prices and regional shop terms vary, so check the live options before spending gold or balance.
