Diablo 4 Legion Events Guide: Location, Mastery and Rewards
Legion Events are short open-world fights in Diablo 4. A countdown on the map tells you where the next one starts, everyone nearby can jump in, and a few minutes later you open a pile of reward chests. In game the event is called Gathering Legions.
Legion Events at a glance
- Where: a different spot each time. The map marks it with a countdown.
- Who: anyone in the area can join in. You don't need a party.
- How it runs: a few timed objectives, then a final boss.
- Mastery: a bonus goal with its own timer. Hit it for more chests.
- Loot: gear, crafting materials and Murmuring Obols. A Lair Key can drop too.
How to find the next Legion Event
Open the world map. A Legion Event shows up as its own marker with a timer counting down to the start. That timer is all the schedule you need: there's no single arena, and the spot moves around the world from one event to the next.
- Find the marker and note how much time is left on it.
- Teleport to the nearest waypoint and ride the rest of the way.
- Get there before the countdown ends, so you're in place for the first objective.
Some event spots sit inside a Stronghold. Those only host the event once you've freed that Stronghold. If the marker points into one you haven't cleared, either clear it another day or wait for the next event somewhere else. Don't count on finishing a Stronghold before the timer runs out.
Players have seen Legion Events in Fractured Peaks, Scosglen, the Dry Steppes, Kehjistan, Hawezar and Nahantu. With Lord of Hatred, players also report them in Skovos, for example at the Cosmic Archives and in Cetos. Nobody has a confirmed full list for Season 15, so trust the map marker over any old location map.
Before the event starts
If you arrive early, check these while the countdown runs:
| Check | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Campfire | Some spots have a campfire before the start. Stoke it for a stacking experience bonus. It doesn't count toward the event itself. |
| Whisper on the marker | If the Tree of Whispers has a Whisper on this event, finishing it also gives you Grim Favors. |
| Helltide nearby | When a Helltide covers the same zone, the demons you kill there can drop its Aberrant Cinders as well. Take that as a bonus when it happens. |
| Your build | Bring skills that clear packs fast and enough defense to stand in a crowd. The final boss needs solid single-target damage. |
How a Legion Event plays out
Every Legion Event has the same shape: several timed objectives, then a final boss, then the chests. What the objectives ask of you depends on the event spot, so always read the goal on screen instead of expecting the same waves every time.
- The countdown ends and the first objective appears.
- Timed objectives follow: clear the demons, finish a small side event or protect someone, depending on the spot. Each goal has its own timer.
- The event can shift to another point in the area. Follow the marker to keep up.
- Beat the final boss to complete the event.
- The chests appear at the end. Open every one before you leave.
Other players who happen to be close fight alongside you. In Season 15, though, some players report quiet events with nobody else around, so pick a difficulty you can handle on your own.
How to earn mastery
Mastery is the bonus goal of a Legion Event. It runs on its own timer next to the main objective, and the progress bar on screen shows how close you are. Finish it in time and the end of the event drops extra chests.
| Event type | What you do | Mastery goal |
|---|---|---|
| Classic demon fight | Hold the area against waves of demons and their elites | Kill the Servants of Hell before their timer runs out |
| Side events | Finish small events spread around the area | Complete them in time, as the screen shows |
| Escort | Protect a target while it moves | Keep it alive and get it through before the timer ends |
Community guides from Season 12 count one chest for finishing the event and two more for mastery. We haven't confirmed that number for every Season 15 event, but mastery is always worth the extra minute. The same goes for staying until the end: if you leave after the first elite, you miss the boss and the chests.
Mastery tips
- Keep the bonus timer in view as well as the main one. It decides your extra chests.
- Stay where the goal is. Chasing stray demons across the zone eats the time you need for mastery.
- When the goal asks for Servants of Hell or elites, go for them before the smaller demons around them.
- Stay until the chests: the event only completes once the final boss is dead.
Legion Event rewards
The rewards sit in the chests at the end of the event. There's no fixed loot list and nobody has published drop rates, so everything below can drop, with odds nobody knows.
| Reward | What to know |
|---|---|
| Gear | Weapons and armor, like other open-world loot |
| Crafting materials | For upgrading and crafting your gear |
| Murmuring Obols | A currency you trade for random items at the Purveyor of Curiosities |
| Lair Key | A regular Lair Key can drop. It opens the Hoard of an Initiate Lair Boss. Don't expect the higher Greater or Superior keys here. |
| Exquisite Blood | Players report it from Legion chests. It used to summon Lord Zir, but that's no longer how his fight works: his Hoard now opens with a regular Lair Key. |
| Grim Favors | Only when the event carries an active Whisper |
Don't expect a mount or a set of cosmetics from Legion Events. We found no current source that ties a specific cosmetic to them. Don't plan a leveling or gold farm around them either. They work best as a stop on your route: when a marker pops up near where you're playing, it's a few minutes for a handful of chests and maybe a Lair Key.
Quick plan for a Legion Event
- Watch the map for the Legion marker and its countdown.
- If the spot is inside a Stronghold you haven't freed, skip this one.
- Arrive early, stoke the campfire if there is one, and look for a Whisper on the event.
- Play the objectives as the screen describes them and keep the bonus timer in view.
- Hit mastery, then beat the final boss.
- Open every chest and head back to your route.
Conclusion
When a Legion Event spawns near you, it costs a few minutes: follow the marker, read the goal, finish mastery and open the chests. It isn't worth building a session around, but a possible Lair Key or a Whisper on the event makes the detour pay.

FAQ
Open the world map. The next event has its own marker with a countdown to the start. The spot changes from one event to the next, and some spots sit inside Strongholds you need to free first.
Yes, on the map: the marker counts down to the next start. We haven't confirmed a fixed interval between events in Season 15, so go by that countdown rather than an outside schedule.
The bonus goal of the event, with its own timer. Depending on the spot you kill the Servants of Hell, finish small side events or protect an escort in time. Make it and the event ends with extra chests.
Gear, crafting materials and Murmuring Obols, and sometimes a regular Lair Key. With an active Whisper on the event you also get Grim Favors. There's no fixed loot list and no published drop rates.
They can. A regular Lair Key opens the Hoard of an Initiate Lair Boss such as Varshan or Lord Zir. Don't expect Greater or Superior Lair Keys from Legion chests.
Check where the marker points. Some spots are inside a Stronghold, and the event only runs there once you've freed it. Clear that Stronghold another time or wait for the next event.
No. It's an open-world event, so anyone nearby can join in. Some Season 15 players report quiet events, so pick a difficulty you can finish alone.
