Once Human: Beginner Guide
Once Human is a new open-world survival game set in a post-apocalyptic future where there are no more countries, nations, or unions. The game was released on July 9th on PC, iOS, and Android. Unfortunately, the game did not come out on PS5 as many had expected. The Once Human map is filled with monsters, abandoned cities, and, of course, loot. You and your comrades must survive by exploring the world, upgrading your gear and base to make survival easier. We hope our Once Human: Beginner Guide will help you with this.

Table of content
Base
To start, you need to find a good and safe place for your base. The base serves as a place to rest, store your belongings, and use your workbenches safely. We recommend choosing a location near important resources (wood and ore) and not far from food sources to avoid problems with supplies. You can teleport to and from your base at any time, even without using special teleporters located on the Once Human map.

If your initial base location turns out to be unsuitable or you just want to change it, you can easily do so in the Building Move section.
Crafting and Memetics
Unlocking new crafts in Once Human happens through Memetics. Memetics is an upgrade menu where you can unlock new crafts divided into four skill trees: Infrastructure, Crafting, Logistics, and Construction. To unlock the necessary crafts in different categories, you need Meme Points, Ciphers, and Energy Links. Ciphers can be obtained by leveling up, completing seasonal tasks, and capturing new Deviations. Energy Links can be obtained by clearing dungeons and completing tasks.

Every five levels, you receive a Memetic Specialization where you need to choose a specialization for further progress and building your survival and combat skills. If you make a mistake in choosing a specialization, you can reset your progress, but only 70% of the resources spent on upgrades will be returned.
Equipment
The Once Human map is a dangerous place where you need tools and weapons to survive. The game offers a wide variety of weapons suitable for different playstyles. Don't forget that besides weapons, the game also has armor necessary for surviving encounters with monsters. Weapons, armor, and tools can be found during exploration or crafted at a workbench. It’s important to remember that all equipment in Once Human has durability, and the more you use it, the more it wears out. You can only repair equipment that was created at a workbench. Additionally, you can calibrate your weapons using materials, which will increase their characteristics.

It is also important to mod your weapons, improving their characteristics with specific mods found while exploring the Once Human map. Some weapons allow adding parts like scopes or muzzles in addition to mods.
Deviations
The Once Human map is teeming with Deviations, monsters that have overrun the world. Your goal is to defeat these monsters. Sometimes they can be bosses that you can capture after defeating them and use their abilities to make survival easier. Deviations can be found in specific locations, giving you an opportunity to capture them, although they may escape. The success rate is shown when you hover over a Deviation.
Deviations have different abilities useful in various situations:
- Combat Deviations — for support in battles.
- Territory Deviations — help on your base by gathering resources and speeding up machine work.
- Gadget Deviations — provide you with special abilities when used.
- Furniture Deviations — can be placed on your base as furniture.
Deviations are stored in Independent Secure Units on your base. To maintain their efficiency, you need to keep them comfortable. Different Deviations have different comfort requirements, such as being surrounded by plants.
Survival
In Once Human, as in any other survival game, you need to monitor your needs, such as thirst and hunger, as well as sanity. Your stamina is directly linked to your hunger and thirst levels, so to explore the Once Human map quickly, it's better to keep them full. A fridge will help with this: without it, your food supplies can spoil quickly. Health is directly related to sanity, so to avoid dying from a single monster hit, it's better to keep your sanity high. Sanity pills and a bed that restores sanity while you sleep will help with this.
