About Destiny 2 Leveling System
Destiny 2 uses a Power Level system where your total Power is calculated from equipped gear. Artifact bonuses have been removed. In the Edge of Fate update, all characters reset to Power 10 and progress through structured Power Bands. Gear from campaign, Kepler exploration and Portal missions increases Power up to 200. After that, Powerful rewards and Prime Engrams scale progression to 400. Beyond 450, Seasonal Bonus Power is applied directly to weapons and armor. Max Power for the season is 550, achieved through Pinnacle activities and high-grade Portal challenges introduced in the Ash and Iron update.
How to Boost Power Fast
- Power Floor and Soft Cap (10 to 200): All characters begin at Power 10. Complete the Edge of Fate campaign, explore Kepler and clear Portal activities to rapidly reach Power 200. Gear upgrades scale freely within this range.
- Progression Band (200 to 450): Portal missions and milestones reward Powerful and Prime Engrams that scale up to 400. Higher Portal grades increase Prime drop frequency, with no weekly limits.
- Seasonal Bonus Power (450 to 550): Seasonal Power beyond the cap is applied directly to weapons and armor. Reach 500 with Prime Engrams, then push to 550 through Pinnacle sources and the Ash & Iron update.
- Seasonal Reset: At season end, total Power resets to 200. Seasonal Bonus Power and Unstable Cores expire, so infuse gear before reset using cores from dismantled Bonus Power items.
Is PvP Good for Leveling?
PvP modes including Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris and Competitive Crucible contribute to Power progression. They reward Prime Engrams and Seasonal Bonus Power when played at high performance levels. While PvE remains more consistent for farming, PvP can provide faster gains if you maintain a strong win rate and high activity grades in Crucible and Trials.
Does the Cap Matter in Destiny 2?
Reaching the Hard Cap is essential for full access to Tier 5 gear, high-grade Portal challenges and endgame content like raids and Trials. Seasonal Bonus Power allows you to push beyond the cap during the second half of the season, increasing your efficiency and unlocks. Staying close to the cap ensures you get maximum rewards from all major activities in the season.
New Leveling System in Edge of Fate
- Power reset: All characters reset to Power 10 at launch. Campaign and Portal content raise Power to 200, with Seasonal Bonus Power extending progression up to 550.
- Portal hub: Central system for selecting modifiers and difficulty. Higher grades reward better loot and more Prime Engrams.
- Infusion and Unstable Cores: Dismantle Bonus Power gear to earn Unstable Cores. Use them to upgrade selected items. Cores expire at the season reset.
- Armor 3.0 and Weapon Tiers: Endgame gear includes Tier 1 to Tier 5 weapons and Armor 3.0 bonuses. Higher tiers drop from advanced Portal challenges and Pinnacle content.
