About Destiny 2 Leveling System
Destiny 2 uses a Power‑Level system: your character’s Power is the average of equipped gear plus any Artifact bonus. Rising Power means you deal more damage and survive tougher challenges. The system has three tiers – Soft Cap (fast drops), Powerful Cap (mid‑game targets) and Pinnacle Cap (end‑game hard drops). As of Edge of Fate, everyone resets to Power 10 at launch, earns up to Power 200 via campaign and Portal, then boosts to seasonal caps (up to ~550) via high‑tier activities each season.
How to Boost Power Fast
- Power Floor and Soft Cap (10–200): Everyone starts at Power 10. Complete campaign, Portal, and basic activities to reach the Soft Cap at 200 quickly — gear drops freely above your current level.
- Seasonal Mid-Cap (200–450): During the first 3 months of a season, increase Power through Powerful rewards from milestones, vendor challenges, and curated Portal drops.
- Seasonal Max Cap (450–550): In the second half of the season, only Pinnacle sources can raise Power further — raids, Trials, dungeons, and elite seasonal content.
- Seasonal Reset: At the end of the season, your Power resets to 200. Gear above that expires, and Unstable Cores must be used before the reset.
Is PvP Good for Leveling?
PvP modes like Iron Banner, Trials, and Gambit invasion do award Powerful/Pinnacle gear—yes, they help your Power progression. PvE is more predictable, but PvP adds variety and can speed leveling if you’re skilled.
Does the Cap Matter in Destiny 2?
Reaching the Pinnacle Cap is key—higher Power unlocks the strongest content: Grandmaster Nightfalls, master raids and top-tier seasonal gear. Boosting helps you hit this cap reliably every season.
New Leveling System in Edge of Fate
- Power reset: Everyone drops to 10 at launch, then gains to 200 via campaign & Portal, seasonal buff to ~550.
- Portal hub: Choose modifiers, difficulty, and earn higher-tier gear faster.
- Infusion & Unstable Cores: Use Unstable Cores (dismantle 200+ gear) to upgrade old gear. They expire each season.
- Armor 3.0 & Weapon tiers: New system with set bonuses and weapons tiers 1–5. Higher tiers drop in harder content.
