Artifacts represent a new item type in New World, or more accurately, a new rarity. They were introduced with the
release of the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, boasting an exclusive
700 GS (Gear Score)
and forming an essential
part of the end-game content. Each artifact comes with fixed perks and abilities, as well as a universal attribute -
Magnify, which amplifies your highest attribute. For instance, if Strength is your main and highest attribute, Magnify
will boost the Strength.
The main thing that makes Artifacts different from the usual Legendary items is that each Artifact has its own growth
path. Their cool features don’t show up all at once, but open up as you meet certain goals. When you get an artifact,
you need to do a special quest to unlock the first perks on it. But it doesn’t stop there; you’ll need to grind a lot
to fully upgrade your artifact and unlock all its perks. And of course, artifacts can't just be purchased with
New World Coins
like legendary items, they are
looted only once, immediately become bind-on-pickup, and cannot be deleted or discarded.
Every character, assuming they are
leveled up
to 65
, is allowed to equip only one artifact weapon and one artifact armor piece. In this scenario, Shields are
considered as armor, meaning you could, for instance, equip the Flail - Odo in one hand and the Kite Shield - Michael
in the other. The most intriguing aspect of artifacts, from my experience, is the added layer of freedom they bring to
build-crafting. Artifacts significantly impact the gameplay, making the gameplay experience of two characters with
identical weapons but different artifacts feel entirely different, especially when it comes to
PvP battles
.
If we compare to other games, Artifacts in New World are somewhat like the Legendary items from
World of Warcraft
during the
Legion times, or Mythic Items from
the Elder Scrolls Online. Although how
these items work in these games is different, the main idea is the same. Artifacts make a big impact on the gameplay
and are a key part of the end-game content. And don't forget, despite all the power of artifacts, they will truly
shine only if your weapon mastery of the
corresponding weapon type is leveled up to the maximum 20th level.
