Leoric's Crown, a spiked dark gold Unique helm, glowing on a stone altar in a dark lair in Diablo 4

Diablo 4 Unique Items Guide: Boss Loot Table and Farming

A Unique item in Diablo 4 carries its own power, and the right one can turn an average build into a strong one. The wrong one is an orange item that takes up a slot. So ask which Unique your build needs and where you get it.

This guide answers both for Season 15, Season of Hell's Legacy: how to rate a Unique for your own character, which Lair Boss to farm for a specific item, what each key does, how Mythics work now and what the nine new Legacy Uniques bring.

Hover over or tap an item name to see its tooltip. The cards show value ranges from the game data, so your own roll can differ.

Uniques at a glance

  • Drops: any Unique can drop from level 1, on any difficulty.
  • Target farming: Lair Bosses, from Torment I. Each boss has its own Unique pool, so you pick the boss that lists your item.
  • Keys: the fight is free. The key opens your personal Hoard after the kill, and every player in a group needs their own.
  • Mythics: a Mythic from a Lair Boss Hoard now comes from that boss's own pool. You can also craft Mythics three ways.
  • New this season: nine Legacy Uniques such as the Stone of Jordan. They stay in the game after the season ends.

How to rate a Unique for your build

No single ranking works for every class. A Unique earns its place when its power feeds the skill you press and the content you play. The same item can carry one build and do nothing for another build of the same class, and a balance patch can flip that again.

When a Unique drops, compare it with the item it would replace: its power against the Legendary Aspect you would lose, then the affixes on both. The same rule holds for Mythics: a Mythic is only an upgrade if its power fits your plan.

Our rating What it means for you What to check
Build-defining Your build guide is planned around this power It works with your main skill and your class can use it
Strong option It helps, but another good item wants the same slot What you give up in that slot, affixes and survival
Situational Good in one fight or one activity, not everywhere How often that situation really happens in your runs
Off-build Nothing in your current skill setup uses the power Stash it for a second build or another character

Razorplate, for example, is chest armor every class can wear, but outside a Thorns build it's off-build. The Shard of Verathiel boosts Basic Skills, which makes it a natural pick for builds that lean on them, yet a Spiritborn can't use it at all.

Where Uniques drop

Uniques are part of normal loot. Since Season 15 every Unique can drop from level 1 and on every difficulty, so Helltide, dungeons and the campaign all hand them out by chance. That's great for filling slots while you level, but it won't get you one specific item.

For a specific item you farm a Lair Boss. Lair Bosses open from Torment I. You start the fight at the altar in their lair for free and as often as you want. After the kill a Hoard appears, and that personal chest holds the targeted rewards. Opening it costs one key. In a group a friend's key does nothing for you, so everyone brings their own.

Which key each boss takes

Boss Tier Key for your Hoard Needs

UrivarInitiate1 Lair KeyVessel of Hatred
Duriel, Andariel, The ButcherGreater1 Greater Lair KeyBase game
Harbinger of HatredGreater1 Greater Lair KeyVessel of Hatred
BelialExalted1 Superior Lair KeyBase game

Lair Keys come from everyday endgame: Helltide chests, World Bosses, Legion Events, Whisper Caches and, with the Lord of Hatred expansion, War Plans. Greater Lair Keys come from the Hoards of the Initiate bosses. So the dependable chain is Lair Keys first, then Initiate bosses, then the Greater ones. Before you plan a long session, hover over the lair on the map: it shows the key that boss takes and how many you carry.

Boss loot table: example targets

Every Lair Boss has its own Unique pool with items for all classes and items for single classes. The table below shows twelve sample targets from four bosses, picked where the current Season 15 community loot tables agree, so you can see how to find your boss. Where those tables disagree, as on Varshan's Sorcerer chest or on whether Duriel also drops Rage of Harrogath, we left the item out. Blizzard doesn't publish a complete official table, so check a current pool list for your class before you spend keys.

Watch the class column. The Shard of Verathiel looks like an item for everyone, but Spiritborn can't use it. X'Fal's Corroded Signet is the same story for Paladins: Blizzard removed it from them this season. The Godslayer Crown, on the other hand, fits every class: it pulls enemies together and makes them take more damage whenever you try to stun, freeze or otherwise lock one down.

A pool doesn't guarantee your item on any single Hoard, and the same Unique can still drop in normal play. What a pool does is raise your odds by cutting out everything else.

Belial and the other Lair Bosses

Grigoire, the Beast in the Ice, Urivar, The Butcher and Harbinger of Hatred all have pools of their own, so look your item up there too. Belial works differently: when you open his Hoard you choose which boss's pool the loot comes from. That makes him the most flexible target, but his Hoard takes the rarer Superior Lair Key.

Before you spend keys

  • Name your target. Pick the Unique your build guide asks for and confirm your class can use it.
  • Find its boss. Look the item up in a current Season 15 pool list and farm that boss, not the one you're used to.
  • Farm where you never die. A Torment you clear cleanly gives more Hoards per hour than one where every third attempt fails.
  • Bring a group with keys. Everyone pays for their own Hoard, but kills go faster, so you open more Hoards per hour.

Mythic Uniques: drop or craft

Mythic Uniques are the rarest tier. Since Season 15 a Mythic from an Initiate or Greater Lair Boss, or one you pick from Belial's Hoard, comes only from that boss's own pool. On top of the pool, Lair Bosses drop random side loot, and that side loot can still roll any Mythic. Blizzard raised Mythic chances across Lair Bosses this season, and Echo of Mephisto (Lord of Hatred) now promises a Mythic drop. Exact odds per kill aren't published, so count a Mythic as a bonus.

Most Mythics are top versions of Uniques you already know. A handful of famous pieces, the Iconic Mythics, only ever exist at Mythic quality. Three well-known examples:

Iconic Mythic Slot Who can use it
Harlequin CrestHelmAll classes
Ring of Starless SkiesRingAll classes
The GrandfatherTwo-handed swordBarbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock

If luck won't cooperate, you can make a Mythic:

Where What you get The catch
Horadric Cube: Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic Your own Ancestral Unique turns into its Mythic version and keeps its affixes, Tempering and Masterworking The priciest route. Not for Unmodifiable items. The result is marked Crafted, and you can only wear one Crafted item. Needs Lord of Hatred.
Jeweler: Rune Crafting A Mythic Unique Cheaper, with no Crafted mark
Blacksmith: Mythic Cache A cache with a Mythic Unique Cheaper, with no Crafted mark

The Cube route is the one to use when you already own a perfect copy of the item: tempered, masterworked and with the right affixes. Just don't run that copy through anything that makes it Unmodifiable first. Exact material costs move with patches, so check them in game.

Legacy Uniques in Season 15

Season of Hell's Legacy brings nine Uniques modeled on famous items from older Diablo games. They are permanent: they stay in the game on both Seasonal and Eternal realms after the season ends. Blizzard's notes don't name a boss for them, so treat them as normal drops. Six of them also exist as Unique Charms.

Henri's PerquisitionHenri's PerquisitionOff-hand focusSorcerer, Necromancer, WarlockYes

A famous name doesn't make an item strong for you, so rate these like any other Unique. Two of them are easy to fit into many builds. Leoric's Crown counts as jewelry and makes the gem in its socket stronger. The Stone of Jordan raises all your resistances to your highest one and adds damage of that element.

Unique Charms: the power without the slot

With the Lord of Hatred expansion you have the Talisman, and its Unique Charms carry a Unique's power without taking a gear slot. Most Seals hold one Unique Charm. So before you give up a strong chest or ring for a Unique, check whether that Unique also comes as a Charm. The Shard of Verathiel, for example, can be crafted into one since Season 15. A Unique Charm is made from an Ancestral copy of the item in the Horadric Cube.

Don't mix these up with Soul Splinters. Soul Splinters are seasonal gems with a bonus and a drawback that you put into jewelry. They are not Uniques and they don't belong in a Unique loot table. The two systems meet in one place: Leoric's Crown counts as jewelry, so your helm can hold Soul Splinters too.

Quick plan: farm the Unique you need

  1. Pick the item: take a current build guide for your class and note the Unique power it really needs.
  2. Check it: make sure your class can use the item and read its current power in game.
  3. Find the boss: look the item up in a Season 15 pool list and note which key that boss takes.
  4. Stock keys: Lair Keys from your daily activities, Greater Lair Keys from the Initiate bosses.
  5. Farm and compare: open your own Hoard, compare every Unique with what you wear, and keep going until the slot is solved.
  6. Think Charm: with Lord of Hatred, check whether the power also fits your Talisman as a Unique Charm.

Conclusion

Farm for the Unique your build is missing: find out which boss has it in its pool, keep a steady supply of the right keys and compare every drop with what you wear. Mythics come as a bonus from the same Hoards or through crafting, and the nine Legacy Uniques are worth a look for every class.

If you're missing one specific Unique and are short on time to farm it, pick the item with the stats your build needs on our Diablo 4 Unique Items page.

FAQ

There is no single best one. A Unique is worth it when its power works with the skill and activity your build is made for. Compare it with the item and Legendary Aspect it would replace.

Anywhere. Since Season 15 every Unique can drop from level 1 and on every difficulty. For one specific item, farm the Lair Boss whose pool lists it, from Torment I.

Every Lair Boss has its own Unique pool. Look your item up in a current Season 15 pool list and farm that boss. Belial lets you choose which boss's pool his Hoard rolls from.

No. The fight at the altar is free. The key opens your personal Hoard after the kill: a Lair Key for Initiate bosses, a Greater Lair Key for Greater bosses and a Superior Lair Key for Belial. In a group everyone needs their own.

Yes. A Mythic from an Initiate or Greater Lair Boss Hoard comes from that boss's own pool, and the random side loot can still roll any Mythic. The odds aren't published, so you can also craft one in the Horadric Cube, at the Jeweler or at the Blacksmith.

No. Blizzard added the nine Legacy Uniques for good, on Seasonal and Eternal realms. Six of them also exist as Unique Charms.

Not to find or wear them. The expansion adds the Horadric Cube, the Talisman with Unique Charms and War Plans as a key source. Urivar and Harbinger of Hatred need Vessel of Hatred.
