ESO PvE DPS Tier List: Best Classes and Builds
The best ESO DPS build depends on the fight and on how comfortably you can play its rotation. A class ranking is a useful starting point, but damage in a trial also depends on gear, skill choices, group buffs, and time spent attacking the target.
ESO now offers both subclassing, which lets a character use selected skill lines from other classes, and Class Mastery for eligible pure-class setups. That makes a fixed class ranking less useful than it was when Necrom launched. Compare the build you intend to play, not only the class name.
ESO 1-50 Power Leveling Boost
The Arcanist was introduced with Necrom; it is no longer a new class. Its Crux mechanic still gives it a distinct way to build and spend power. For background on its original release, see TESO: Necrom.
ESO PvE DPS tiers
This class-only snapshot follows a published PvE DPS guide. It is an editorial comparison, not a promise of identical damage in every dungeon or trial. Balance changes and subclass choices can move individual builds; a well-played lower-tier build can outperform a poorly played higher-tier one.
| S tier | Magicka Sorcerer, Stamina Warden, Stamina Nightblade, Stamina Sorcerer |
| A tier | Magicka Templar, Magicka Dragonknight, Magicka Nightblade, Stamina Dragonknight |
| B tier | Magicka Warden, Stamina Necromancer, Stamina Templar |
| C tier | Magicka Necromancer, Stamina Arcanist, Magicka Arcanist |
These tiers compare class builds broadly; they are not a target-dummy DPS chart. Do not treat C tier as a class you must avoid. Pick a setup that fits your role, then check a build guide for the content you actually play.
Magicka, stamina, and build choice
Magicka and stamina describe the resource focus of a build, not a strict ranged-versus-melee split. Weapon, skill, and encounter choices shape its range and rotation. ESO's hybridization changes also make simple rules such as "magicka is always easier" unreliable.
When choosing a DPS build, compare its single-target damage, area damage, sustain, survivability, and how much movement its rotation tolerates. For solo play, leave room for healing or defense. In an organized group, coordinate buffs and support with the tank and healer rather than copying a solo bar unchanged.

Classes worth comparing
Magicka Sorcerer
Magicka Sorcerer is a leading pick in the class ranking above. Its appeal is a flexible damage setup with options for ranged play and self-protection. Compare pet and non-pet rotations before committing to a build; the best choice is one you can execute consistently.
Stamina Warden
Stamina Warden also sits in the top tier of the current guide. Nature-themed class skills give it a different rhythm from Sorcerer. Check the actual build's skill bars and sustain before deciding whether it suits your group or solo play.
Stamina Nightblade
Stamina Nightblade is another top-tier option in that ranking. It rewards attention to timing and target uptime. If you prefer its style, practice the rotation in the encounters you plan to run instead of choosing a build from a tier label alone.
Arcanist
Arcanist's Crux system supports both pure-class and subclassed DPS setups. The ranking above places its stamina and magicka builds in C tier, but that is a relative class-list position, not a statement that Arcanist cannot complete PvE content.

Solo DPS versus group DPS
Solo builds need enough healing, defense, and resource sustain to stay in a fight. Group damage builds can lean harder on the tank and healer, but they still need to survive mechanics and keep their rotation running. The highest parse on a stationary target is not automatically the best build for a moving boss.
Start with the class and resource style you enjoy, then compare current builds for your preferred activity. Practice their rotation, adjust for the encounter, and revisit your setup after major combat changes.

For a first ESO DPS character, choose a build with a rotation and survival tools you can manage. The tier table can narrow your search, but it does not replace testing the build in the content you want to play.
