Delves change the way we do endgame content in World of Warcraft. They give a new, fun way to play outside of regular raids and PvP. With Delves, you can enjoy fresh adventures that match your style, explore exciting stories that evolve, and dive as deep as you want without messing up your progress elsewhere.
Understanding Delve Tiers and Their Progression
Delves are organized into tiers, each with different levels of difficulty and rewards. Here’s what you need to know:
- Pre-Season Availability: Before Season 1 officially starts, you can explore tiers 1 to 3. These tiers are easier and help you get familiar with Delve mechanics and stories.
When you reach level 80, complete the campaign with your first character, and equip gear of at least 548 item level in every slot, you'll earn the War Within Delves: Endgame achievement. This achievement grants you access to Tier 4 delves. By completing each delve, you'll unlock the next tier, eventually reaching the highest level, Tier 11.
- Seasonal Release: When Season 1 begins, tiers 4 to 11 will open up. These tiers are harder and offer deeper stories. This setup lets you progress at your own pace.
- Story Progression: Higher tiers speed up story development. You don’t have to complete all the higher tiers to enjoy the story. This allows you to experience the lore at your own speed.
- Balanced Rewards: Tiers 9 to 11 offer rewards similar to tier 8. This design keeps lower tiers valuable for gear and doesn’t force players to always aim for the highest tiers unless they want the challenge.
So, here is the Delve progression system:
Tier | Requirements | Unlocks |
---|---|---|
Tier 4 | War Within Delves: Endgame achievement | Access to Tier 5 |
Tier 5 | Complete Tier 4 Delve | Access to Tier 6 |
Tier 6 | Complete Tier 5 Delve | Access to Tier 7 |
Tier 7 | Complete Tier 6 Delve | Access to Tier 8 |
Tier 8 | Complete Tier 7 Delve | Access to Tier 9 |
Tier 9 | Complete Tier 8 Delve | Access to Tier 10 |
Tier 10 | Complete Tier 9 Delve | Access to Tier 11 |
Tier 11 | Complete Tier 10 Delve | Maximum tier reached |
The tier system keeps the game fun and rewarding for all players, regardless of game time spent or play style.
Seasonal Updates: Delves will get updates and new content each season. This keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting, encouraging you to return and discover new challenges.
Delve Revive Counter
From Tier 4 onwards, each Delve has a Revive Counter. This tracks how many deaths your team can have before failing the Delve. Similar to Torghast's death counter, it affects your loot quality: fewer deaths mean better rewards. Play carefully and work together to get the best loot.
Delve Boons
Delve Boons give you useful bonuses to help in your Delve. You can get them by defeating certain enemies, interacting with special items, or finding them in chests during the Delve.
Delve Locations
In The War Within, there are four new zones, each offering a unique environment and story.
Here’s a quick guide on how to find Delves:
Zone | Delve Locations |

Isle of Dorn | Earthcrawl Mines, Kriegval’s Rest, Fungal Folly, Mycomancer Cavern |
