Delves are short, replayable PvE adventures in World of Warcraft. You can enter alone or with friends, choose a difficulty tier, complete the scenario's objectives, and fight a final encounter. Midnight keeps the format and introduces new locations and a new companion. What Are Delves in WoW?
Unlike a dungeon queue, a delve is a compact adventure that you can approach solo or with a group of up to five players. Each location can have different story variants and objectives, so learn the current variant's mechanics rather than assuming every visit follows the same route. Combat, exploration, and occasional environmental mechanics all matter. Your delve companion helps fill a support role, but you still need to handle enemies and objectives yourself.
Delves have difficulty tiers. Completing a tier unlocks the next for your Warband; higher tiers increase the challenge. A normal completion and a Bountiful completion do not offer identical rewards, so check the map and your keys before choosing a run. Delves can also contribute to the Great Vault's world-content rewards.
What's New in Midnight Season 2?
Midnight replaced Brann Bronzebeard with Valeera Sanguinar as the current delve companion. Valeera can take a damage, healing, or tank support role. Set her role in the Delves section of Journeys in the Adventure Guide to complement your character and the encounter you plan to run.
Midnight introduced a new set of delves. Season 2 added The Ring of Glory and Gnarldor Isle, plus Venomfall Deeps as its Nemesis Delve. Existing Midnight locations also received new snake and venom variants. These are the current seasonal additions; Excavation Site 9 and Sidestreet Sluice belong to an earlier The War Within season.
Season 2 opened its higher delve tiers, Bountiful Delves, keys, and the harder Nemesis difficulty. The season's rewards and enemy tuning differ from the old The War Within table, so do not use that table to plan a Midnight run.
The Current Delve Companion
Valeera is available as a damage dealer, healer, or tank. A sturdy character might prefer extra damage, while a fragile solo character can try healing or tank support. Change her role if a specific boss or objective is causing trouble. There is no universal best setup for every class and tier.
New Locations and Nemesis Challenge
- The Ring of Glory: A new Season 2 delve. Check the active variant's objectives and hazards at the entrance.
- Gnarldor Isle: Another new Season 2 delve. Adjust your route and companion role to the enemies you meet.
- Venomfall Deeps: The Season 2 Nemesis Delve. Treat it as a separate challenge rather than a beginner gearing route.
Midnight's earlier delves remain useful for learning the system. Their variants can change the flow of a run, so a familiar location is not always an identical fight.
How Delve Progression Works
Start at a tier you can complete comfortably. Finishing a higher tier unlocks further difficulty for your Warband. If a run becomes unreliable, step down, improve your gear, or change Valeera's role instead of pushing a tier that costs more time than it saves.
Seasonal delve progress is tracked in the Journeys tab of the Adventure Guide. Open its Delves section to see your progress and configure Valeera. Check the current in-game reward track there: old point totals, mount schematics, vendor prices, and item levels from The War Within Season 2 do not describe Midnight's rewards.
The Great Vault provides another reason to run delves. Its world-content row includes delve activity, while the gear you claim depends on the live season and your completed content. Check the Vault's in-game preview for your character rather than relying on a static item-level chart from a previous expansion.
Easiest Delves to Start With
There is no fixed easiest delve for every character. The variant, tier, your class, Valeera's role, and your gear all change the difficulty. Begin with a low tier in a location whose objectives you understand. Learn which attacks you can interrupt, where you can break line of sight, and what the final encounter asks you to do before increasing the tier.
A Simple Practice Route
- Choose a regular Midnight delve at an accessible tier and read the variant objective before pulling.
- Set Valeera to the support role that covers your weakest point: damage, healing, or tanking.
- Use defensives and interrupts on dangerous enemies instead of racing through every pack.
- After a reliable clear, try the next tier or a Bountiful version with a key for its extra chest.
A new location such as The Ring of Glory or Gnarldor Isle is worth exploring, but neither is guaranteed to be easier than another delve. If you are learning, consistent clears matter more than a claimed universal ranking.
Bountiful Delves and Coffer Keys
Bountiful Delves are marked versions of delves that offer an additional reward opportunity. To open a Bountiful Coffer, bring a Restored Coffer Key. The key matters for the bonus chest; you can still explore regular delves without building every run around one. Check which delves are currently Bountiful on the map before spending a key.
Midnight Season 2's Bountiful Delves and keys are active. The season also allows progress into the upper tiers. Specific item levels and reward tracks change between seasons, so use the live in-game tooltip and Great Vault preview for exact gear rather than the old The War Within Season 2 loot table.
A Practical Key Routine
- Check the day's Bountiful markers and choose a location whose mechanics you know.
- Clear a tier you can finish reliably; an unfinished harder run wastes your time and does not improve the chest.
- Confirm you have a key before planning around a Bountiful Coffer.
- Review your Vault progress after the run and decide whether another delve, a different world activity, or a higher tier is worthwhile.
Requirements for Midnight Delves
Midnight's level cap is 90, but delves are not limited to max-level characters: the system also supports leveling adventures. Enter a delve available to your character, then work through its tiers. Endgame Bountiful rewards and the seasonal Nemesis challenge are separate goals. A key is needed for a Bountiful Coffer, not for every delve entrance.
There is no single mandatory item-level number that makes all delve tiers viable. More difficult tiers demand better gear and careful play, and a companion role that works in one variant may feel worse in another. WoW Delves Loot and Rewards
Delve rewards depend on the current season, the tier, whether the delve is Bountiful, and whether you open its coffer. Seasonal progression and the Great Vault add separate rewards. This is why a static loot table copied from The War Within Season 2 would now give misleading item levels.

- Delve map and entrance: Confirm the current Bountiful status, active variant, and available tier.
- Coffer tooltip: Check whether you have the key needed for the bonus chest.
- Journeys: See the current Delves progression track and Valeera's setup.

The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and Venomfall Deeps provide new seasonal objectives. Midnight Season 2 also connects delve rewards with other current systems; Blizzard lists Afflicted and Tormented Souls among rewards from higher-tier Bountiful Delves for the Prey activity. If that system is your goal, check its in-game requirements before farming.
Best Class for Delves
There is no single best class for every delve and variant. A class with self-healing or a durable pet can make solo attempts more forgiving; strong mobility helps with positioning; interrupts and defensive abilities matter during dangerous pulls. Group composition changes the answer again.
Druid, Paladin, Hunter, and Demon Hunter are examples of classes with different ways to handle solo challenges, but their performance changes with tuning and your specialization. Use the class you know well, adjust Valeera to cover a weakness, and choose a tier you can clear consistently. A well-played familiar class is more useful than a stale tier list.

Pick a Midnight delve, learn its variant at a manageable tier, and set Valeera's role for the encounter. Move up once your clears are reliable. Use Bountiful markers and keys when you want the extra chest, and check Journeys and the Great Vault for the live season's progression and reward details.
