You will face many challenges upon arrival at Aeternum. You will evaluate your
surroundings, gather resources, and start crafting tools to ensure your survival. Trade and crafting skills in New
World can be powerful tools that allow you to make significant progress. You will be able to craft, refine,
and trade
many powerful items as you learn more about craft and trade. In the Character Progress article, we covered how
gathering and refining levels affect crafting outcomes.
We also briefly discussed how consumables work in our
Itemsization Blog. These are worth reading before you dive into the crafting system. High-skilled craftsmen can create
items as powerful, if not more so, than the Aeternum items. Battles won't be won by the item crafted or dropped from
powerful creatures. They will be won by the skill and thought of the players, and their Attributes and Mastery
builds. New World offers many opportunities for you to fulfill your role. You can make a difference
in Aeternum by
exploring dangerous and remote places to find resources or mastering the forge to create incredible weapons that alter
the course of the war.
Engineering - Crafting Trade Skill
Engineering is a Crafting skill that creates Ranged Weapons and their
Ammunition. It also makes Gathering Tools using materials and resources from the Gathering or Refining lines.
Engineering can also be used to create certain Melee Weapons, such as the Hatchet and Spear. Higher levels in
Engineering allow players to craft more powerful weapons and increase their Gear Score. In the case of Ammunition,
engineers will be able to create more Ammunition with the same resources.
A Workshop is used to build ranged weapons, Ammunition, gathering tools, and for engineering. A Forge is used for
melee weapons. These stations are often found in Settlements. Each station has a Tier level that can be raised by
completing Town Projects. Each craftable item requires a certain tier to craft. This tier level corresponds with the
Crafting Station's level. If the Crafting Station level of your settlement is not sufficient, you can either raise it
or locate another settlement with a Crafting Station at a higher tier. To craft Engineering items, the player must
also be at the correct Engineering level. It is easy to level up in Engineering. To increase their skill level,
players need to craft weapons, tools, and Ammunition. However, gathering resources can be more complicated and more
time-consuming.
A small chance exists that a tool or weapon can be Crafted with one or more Perks. These outcomes are not guaranteed,
but players can increase their chances of gaining perks, sockets, or both by using the Azoth special resource during
crafting. There are many special materials available that can be obtained in the world. These materials can be used to
determine what Perk is added for a weapon or tool. There are no guarantees that Perks or Gem Sockets will be added to
an item of equipment, but they do increase with Crafting skills.
Materials panel is located in the middle section of Engineering UI and displays the materials required to make the
item. Every item that is crafted requires at least one type of Primary Material and at most one or more Secondary
Materials. Crafters have the option to add a Special Resource so they can predetermine which Perk will be added to the
item. Azoth can be used to increase your chances of adding an Attribute or Perk to the item.
Primary Materials are the primary refined material used in crafting recipes. Engineering can create melee weapons that
are primarily made of iron or star metal. The tier of a primary material will always correspond with the tier of the
crafted item. Crafting items of a higher level cannot be done with lower-tier primary materials.
The Secondary Materials can be used in crafting recipes of any tier, but not the Primary Materials. Refined Wood is
required as secondary material in the Weaponsmithing Recipe for the Starmetal Great Axe. To fulfill this requirement,
the crafter can use any one of the following: Timber, Lumber Wyrdwood Planks, or Ironwood Planks. Petrified Wood.
Whisperwood. Quillbark, Ebonwood. Wildwood. Barbvine. Horn. Secondary Materials can be raised by using materials of a
higher Tier, such as Ironwood Planks. A material with a higher rarity, such as Barbvine, can increase both the Minimum
Gearscore and Maximum Gearscore. The key to making the most powerful equipment and other items is using better
materials. Certain items, such as unique or named Weapons and Armor, will have material requirements that can't be
modified. These items often offer unique or better bonuses to compensate for this lack of flexibility.
It is important to remember that crafting items will draw from both your Inventory and any Storage Sheds within the
Settlement. If you already have a storage shed, you don't need to clutter up your Inventory. Storage Sheds cannot be
shared between Settlements. You cannot use items stored in Windsward for crafting purposes. You can transfer items
from one storage shed to another via the storage menu.
Perks can be added to crafted items. The Perks you are granted are random. Until you reach higher crafting levels,
chances of them being added to your item are very low. Even then, chances of getting any are not always guaranteed.
To predetermine one of these Perks, special resources such as Chunk of Sparkmetal may be added to the crafting
process. This does not guarantee that the Perk chosen will be added. Players can increase the chance that a crafted
item will gain a Perk by adding Azoth to the crafting process. Azoth can also be added in increments up to 15 and a
maximum of 75. The chances of getting Perks to increase the more Azoth you buy. Azoth infusion will be less effective
for lower-tier items.
