In New World, expeditions have different levels of difficulty, referred to as Mutations, for which you need to
Power
Level
your Character up to the maximum
65 Level. Initially, there were 10 levels of mutation difficulty, but in the new expansion, Rise of the Angry
Earth, the number of mutation levels has been reduced to three, each with a distinct name and
Gear Score
Requirements. Before heading into a
Mutation, make sure your character is well-prepared. First off, purchase all the necessary buffs and potions with
Coins (in-game currency), and ensure that the
Weapon
Mastery of your weapons is leveled
up to 20. I also recommend obtaining the
Artifacts
you need, as they significantly enhance your character's capabilities. Here's a list
of all available difficulties (or mutations, if you prefer):
- Story Mode - This is the basic difficulty level, without mutations, also known as M0, for those who simply
want to explore the dungeon without facing any significant challenges.
- M1 or Intermediate - This is the first level of mutation, which won't be a walk in the park, but also won't
pose much of a challenge for a group of random players. To enter the M1 Intermediate mutation, you'll need a 625
Gear Score.
- M2 or Hard - This is the second level of mutation, recommended for experienced, preferably pre-made groups,
and then it won't present much of a problem. However, you'll need a 650 Gear Score to enter.
- M3 or Elite - This is the highest level of difficulty, designed for hardcore players who enjoy real
challenges. To enter the Elite mutation, you'll need the 700 Gear Score.
What Loot drops in Expeditions
(Mutations)?
In any mutation level, there's a chance that gear with a score of up to 700 may drop. However, the minimum
gear score from the drops rises with the mutation level. This suggests a better chance of snagging a gear score of
700 in a level 3 mutation compared to a level 1. For instance, in a Level 1 (Intermediate) mutation, the
gear score drops start at 645, while in a Level 3 (Elite) Mutation, they start at 695. So, if you
want to get a full 700 GS fast, I suggest focusing on level 3 mutations and doing lots of daily runs. Hardcore
players usually hit the weekly mutation cap, which is set at 100 mutations per week.
