Diablo 4 The Pit, also known as the Pit of Artificers, is an end-game activity consisting of randomized dungeons.
Randomized dungeons mean that enemies and dungeon layouts differ for each run. The Pit has 200 unlockable tiers, which
increase both the dungeon's difficulty and the rewards you receive.
To complete Pit Runs, players need to kill enough monsters and the boss before the 15-minute timer runs out. If you die
during the run, you will receive a time penalty that reduces the remaining time on the timer. For the first death, you
will be penalized for 30 seconds, for the second, 60 seconds, and for the third and all subsequent deaths, 90 seconds
(the death penalty scales for the whole group, not per individual).
How to Unlock the Pit in Diablo 4?
To unlock The Pit activity, you need to unlock World Tier 4, after that you will receive a quest to complete a Tier 46+
Nightmare Dungeon. Upon finishing the quest, the obelisk in Cerrigar, Scosglen will unlock, giving you access to The
Pit. However, to start D4 Pit Farm, you also need to collect Runeshards. After unlocking the obelisk, you can start
collecting them. For each run, you need to use three Runeshards. You can obtain this material by completing Helltides,
Legion Events, and Nightmare dungeons.
How to Unlock New Tiers in the Pit of Artificers?
To unlock a new tier, players need to slay enough monsters and defeat the boss before the 15-minute timer expires. The
faster you complete the run, the more tiers you will unlock:
- If you complete the run with up to 4 minutes remaining, you will unlock 1 tier.
- If you complete the run with 4-6 minutes remaining, you will unlock 2 tiers.
- If you complete the run with 6 or more minutes remaining, you will unlock 3 tiers.
Unlocking tiers on one character will be shared across other characters as long as they are on the same realm
(Eternal/Seasonal) and game mode (Softcore/Hardcore).
Diablo 4 The Pit - Rewards
Completing The Pit grants players various rewards such as Rares, Legendaries, Uniques, Currency, various crafting
materials, and more. These rewards can be obtained even if the timer expires. Notable rewards include Masterworking
materials (Obducite, Ingolith, and Neathiron), which are needed for upgrading gear, and Stygian Stones, which are
required for summoning Tormented bosses. Note that masterworking materials and Stygian Stones only drop if you finish
