WoW Classic Era Dungeons and Raids: Levels and Endgame Path
Classic Era has every original dungeon from Ragefire Chasm to Scholomance and all seven Vanilla raids, from Molten Core to Naxxramas. Nothing opens in phases any more, so a new level 60 can work through the whole endgame at its own pace. We found no official announcement of a new raid or phase for Era as of , so plan with the content that is in the game now.
Classic Era dungeons by level
The levels below are the recommended range, which is not the same as the minimum level to enter. Ragefire Chasm opens at level 8 and The Deadmines at 10, but in this range the fights and the loot fit your character best.
| Dungeon | Recommended level | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Ragefire Chasm | 13–16 | Orgrimmar |
| The Deadmines | 17–21 | Westfall |
| Wailing Caverns | 17–23 | The Barrens |
| Shadowfang Keep | 18–23 | Silverpine Forest |
| Blackfathom Deeps | 20–27 | Ashenvale |
| The Stockade | 23–30 | Stormwind City |
| Razorfen Kraul | 25–32 | The Barrens |
| Gnomeregan | 28–35 | Dun Morogh |
| Scarlet Monastery | 29–42 | Tirisfal Glades |
| Razorfen Downs | 37–43 | Thousand Needles |
| Uldaman | 41–47 | Badlands |
| Zul’Farrak | 44–49 | Tanaris |
| Maraudon | 47–52 | Desolace |
| Blackrock Depths | 49–53 | Blackrock Mountain |
| Sunken Temple | 50–55 | Swamp of Sorrows |
| Lower and Upper Blackrock Spire | 55–60 | Blackrock Mountain |
| Dire Maul | 55–60 | Feralas |
| Stratholme | 55–60 | Eastern Plaguelands |
| Scholomance | 55–60 | Western Plaguelands |
Scarlet Monastery has four wings that you clear in order of level: Graveyard (29–35), Library (31–37), Armory (35–40) and Cathedral (36–42). The best stops for a leveling route are in our Classic Era leveling guide.
Preparing for level 60 dungeons
The dungeons at 60 are where you collect your pre-raid gear. Much of it can be worn before 60, so you can start on Stratholme and Scholomance at around 58. Most Classic dungeons let you in with up to ten players, but quests only count in a group of five, and Blackrock Depths, Stratholme and Scholomance allow no more than five. Upper Blackrock Spire is the exception at the top end, because it is built for a bigger group of up to ten, so plan that run separately.
A group of five needs a tank, a healer and three damage dealers, and the tank decides what to pull and when. If you want help with the dungeon part, our Classic Era dungeon runs cover these instances.
All seven Classic Era raids
The raids are listed in the order they first came out. On Era they are all open at the same time, so read the order as a gear path.
| Raid | Players | Lockout | Location | Last boss |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Molten Core | 40 | Weekly | Blackrock Mountain | Ragnaros |
| Onyxia’s Lair | 40 | Weekly | Dustwallow Marsh | Onyxia |
| Blackwing Lair | 40 | Weekly | Blackrock Mountain | Nefarian |
| Zul’Gurub | 20 | 3 days | Stranglethorn Vale | Hakkar |
| Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ20) | 20 | 3 days | Silithus | Ossirian the Unscarred |
| Temple of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ40) | 40 | Weekly | Silithus | C’Thun |
| Naxxramas | 40 | Weekly | Eastern Plaguelands | Kel’Thuzad |
This is the original Vanilla Naxxramas, not the one from Wrath of the Lich King or the Season of Discovery remake. Your raid info in the game shows when each of your lockouts ends.
Attunements, keys and raid lockouts
Attunements count per character, so every raider needs their own. For Molten Core the Attunement to the Core quest is optional: it sends you deep into Blackrock Depths for a Core Fragment and then lets Lothos Riftwaker port you straight into the raid. Without it you walk through Blackrock Depths or get a Warlock summon.
Onyxia’s Lair needs the Drakefire Amulet in your bags. It comes from a long quest chain that is different for each faction and ends with General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire. For Blackwing Lair, the Scarshield Quartermaster near the Blackrock Spire entrance drops Blackhand’s Command, and that quest sends you to touch the orb behind General Drakkisath. Naxxramas needs Honored with the Argent Dawn and a quest from Archmage Angela Dosantos at Light’s Hope Chapel. The materials it asks for get cheaper as your reputation rises and cost nothing at Exalted. The 20-player raids have no attunement. If you would rather have the chains done for you, see our Classic Era attunements service.
A practical gear progression path
Start with dungeon gear from Blackrock Depths, Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, Stratholme and Scholomance. With it you can join Molten Core and Onyxia, and Zul’Gurub and AQ20 are good additions because they reset every three days and need only 20 players. Blackwing Lair comes next, then AQ40 and finally Naxxramas, the hardest raid, where you want gear from the earlier raids first. Which classes groups want is in our Classic Era DPS tier list and Classic Era tank tier list.
A guild with a fixed schedule is the steady way to raid, while pick-up raids fill in for the older content. No class or gear level guarantees a spot, so be on time, bring your consumables and know the fights.
Hardcore dungeon rules
Hardcore realms add their own rules. Below level 60 almost every dungeon has a lockout of at least 24 hours, and a level 60 player can’t enter a lower dungeon together with players below 60. A character who is far above the dungeon’s level also makes its enemies give the group almost no XP. Normal Era realms don’t have these rules. The rest is in our Classic Hardcore guide with rules and tips to 60.
Choosing a loot group
Before you join a raid, ask how it hands out loot, because that decides what you take home. Guilds often use a loot council or a points system such as DKP, and some pick-up raids let each player reserve one item and roll for the rest. In GDKP raids players bid gold for the loot and split the pot at the end. When Blizzard banned GDKP on Season of Discovery in 2024, it said Classic Era was not affected, so check the current rules for your realm. Our guide to GDKP in WoW explains how it works.
Frequently asked questions
They run from Ragefire Chasm at about 13 to the endgame dungeons at 55 to 60, such as Stratholme, Scholomance, Dire Maul and Blackrock Spire. The recommended level is not the minimum: Ragefire Chasm opens at 8 and The Deadmines at 10.
Seven: Molten Core, Onyxia’s Lair, Blackwing Lair, Zul’Gurub, Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj, Temple of Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas. They are all open at the same time on Era realms.
For some raids. Onyxia’s Lair needs the Drakefire Amulet, Blackwing Lair needs the Blackhand’s Command quest and Naxxramas needs Honored with the Argent Dawn. The Molten Core attunement is optional and only gives you a faster way in.
The 40-player raids lock you for a week, while Zul’Gurub and Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj reset every three days. Your raid info in the game shows when each of your lockouts ends.
We found no official announcement of a new raid or phase for Classic Era as of November 2, 2026. The new content Blizzard announced for other Classic versions does not apply to Era.
Yes. Hardcore realms opened with all original content available, raids included. Death is still permanent there, so a wipe can cost you characters, and below 60 almost every dungeon has a lockout of at least 24 hours.
