Best Tanks in WoW: Midnight Season 2 Tank Tier List
This guide ranks the six tanks of World of Warcraft for Midnight Season 2 in The Venomous Abyss raid and in Mythic+. We updated it on November 2, 2026, following the October 27 tuning. That patch gave no tank a numeric change, so the order below comes from how tanks performed through the season.
Blood Death Knight is the best tank in WoW right now, first in both the raid and Mythic+. Guardian Druid is a close second in keys and Protection Paladin is the second raid tank. Damage dealers and healers are ranked in our full WoW tier list.
How we rank tanks
Tank damage taken says little on its own, so for the raid we look at which tanks Mythic guilds bring to The Venomous Abyss in Warcraft Logs. For Mythic+ we compare each tank’s 95th-percentile Mythic+ score over the last 14 days in keys +7 and higher, which shows who times the hardest keys.

Almost half of all tanks in Mythic Venomous Abyss logs play Blood Death Knight. Death Grip moves adds where the raid needs them, Anti-Magic Zone takes the edge off magic damage for the group, and its self-healing carries it through heavy tank swaps. Ula’tek, the last boss, suits Blood especially well. Protection Paladin is the usual second tank, because it brings external cooldowns and immunities that save other players.
Brewmaster Monk, Guardian Druid, Protection Warrior and Vengeance Demon Hunter all survive at least as well as Blood in Mythic logs. They are just picked less often, so any of them is fine when your raid has the buffs covered.

Blood Death Knight has the highest Mythic+ score of all tanks and the most runs, and its players time +24 keys. Its damage, survival and Death Grip fit the Season 2 dungeon pool very well. Guardian Druid is second, because it is forgiving to play and brings Mark of the Wild, Soothe and good control.
Protection Paladin, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Brewmaster Monk and Protection Warrior are within 50 score points of each other, so all four time high keys in practiced hands. Pick the one whose defensive rhythm you understand, since a tank who knows the route matters more than a small score gap.

Easiest tank to start with
Guardian Druid is the most forgiving tank and second in Mythic+, so it is the best start. Protection Paladin is also a good first tank, because its group cooldowns let you help your party out of trouble.
