WoW Patch 12.1.7: Echoes of the Worldcore Release Date and Features

Patch 12.1.7, Echoes of the Worldcore, is the last update of Midnight Season 2 before Eclipse and Season 3. It has been on the test realm (PTR) since October 15, 2026, and Blizzard hasn’t announced its release date yet. The patch brings the Return to Dornogal story, the new Talebound mode, more Lorewalking and eight weeks of Turbulent Timeways with a new mount. What we describe comes from Blizzard’s Echoes of the Worldcore overview and the PTR notes, so details can still change before launch. Facts checked November 2, 2026.

When does WoW patch 12.1.7 come out?

Blizzard hasn’t named a date yet. Midnight’s patches have come out eight to nine weeks apart, and 12.1.5 went live on October 13 in the US and October 14 in Europe, so we expect 12.1.7 in the first half of December 2026. The PTR calendar points the same way, because it starts Turbulent Timeways, which opens with the patch, on December 1 in the US and December 2 in Europe. That is test data and can still move, so we’ll update this guide once Blizzard confirms the date. Our Midnight roadmap shows where 12.1.7 sits next to Eclipse, Season 3 and The Last Titan.

The Return to Dornogal

The new story chapter takes Arator, Brinthe, Dagran and Brann back to Dornogal, because Xal’atath has broken into the Worldcore and the only way there leads through the damaged Coreway. The chapter sets up Eclipse and The Worldcore raid of Season 3, although the raid itself doesn’t open in 12.1.7.

Talebound: the new action RPG mode

Talebound is a separate PvE mode where you play one of three heroes, the Slayer, the Inquisitor or the Witch, and fight through the tales of a mysterious Storyteller that start from the town of Quillgrave. You can play solo or with friends on Normal, Veteran or Heroic. Our Talebound guide walks you through the classes, the tales and what each one rewards.

Quests and achievements in the mode give Warband-bound Bound Silver, which you spend with Nib in Quillgrave or in the Talebound store on the character screen. It buys transmog sets, decor and the Shadowbound Storybook mount. Ducats only pay for your progress inside Talebound. Blizzard plans to keep the mode from 12.1.7 through 12.2.5. The reward list and its prices can still change, and Blizzard hasn’t confirmed the Mythic loot caches that Wowhead found in the files for two achievements.

Lorewalking: Jaina, Thrall, the Titans and Tyr

Lorewalking lets any character from level 10 relive key moments from the stories of Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall, the Titans and Tyr. Apprentice Lorewalker Li Li Stormstout starts the stories in Stormwind, Orgrimmar and Silvermoon City. You can pause a story and replay it as often as you like, which makes it an easy way to catch up on the lore before Eclipse. Your other quests don’t advance while you’re inside, though, and starting a different story resets the one you haven’t finished.

Turbulent Timeways and the Markeet of the Infinite

Turbulent Timeways runs Timewalking with a different expansion every week for eight weeks from the launch of 12.1.7. After four Timewalking dungeons your XP buff grows to 30%, and when you hold that Mastery in any four of the eight weeks you earn the Markeet of the Infinite mount. For a limited time Archmage Aethas also hands out a Heroic-level Cache of Quel’Thalas Treasures for his weekly quest.

Our Timewalking schedule lists which expansion runs in which week. When you’re short on time, our Timewalking boost plays the dungeons and raids with you until the weekly quest and the Mastery are done.

Omnium Folio: two new runes

The Omnium Folio gets two more Motes of Omnial Inquiry and two new runes. The Rune of Empowerment gives 20% more of the stat from your chosen stat rune, and the Rune of Critical Mass lets your Core Rune sometimes trigger an extra burst that damages enemies or heals allies.

Professions, housing and interface

Herbalists and miners get more Deftness from Bountiful Harvests and Plentiful Ores, so gathering runs go faster. Placed decor now keeps its rotation when you edit your house again, and clicks now pass through the Personal Resource Display, so it no longer gets in the way of targeting in the middle of a fight.

New mounts and pets in 12.1.7

Blizzard has confirmed two new mounts so far: the Markeet of the Infinite from Turbulent Timeways and the Shadowbound Storybook, which you buy with Bound Silver in Talebound. The PTR files hold more Talebound rewards, so Wowhead expects mounts like the Night Court Courier and pets like Zyg’ee from the mode, plus a Wood-Cursed Hearthstone once you finish every tale. Stegodon mounts and pets turn up as Trading Post rewards, and the Greench should drop a Winter Veil mount called Winterrrgl’s Pine-Powered Candy Cane Contraption. Because all of this comes from PTR data, names and sources can still change before launch. Mounts you can already collect in Midnight are in our Midnight mounts section.

What 12.1.7 means for your character

Patch 12.1.7 doesn’t start a new season, so your Season 2 gear and rating keep counting until Season 3. That leaves a few weeks to finish what Season 2 still offers. Our WoW gear boost brings your item level up for the current raids and keys, and our Mythic+ boost plays keys with you until the Keystone achievement you pick is yours.

Turbulent Timeways with its 30% XP buff also makes December a good time to level alts. Our leveling guide has the fastest routes to the level cap, and our power leveling takes the character there for you when you’d rather play your main.
