Hellfire Torch charm with four violet stones and a flame emblem standing on dark stone

How to Get the Hellfire Torch in Diablo 4

The Hellfire Torch is the charm everyone wants in Season 15. It's a Mythic Charm with all stats and resistance to all elements on it. With a Greater Affix it also gives up to +5 to all skills, and it lets you equip one more Unique Charm, so every class gets something out of it. On top of that, each Torch counts as a piece of a random class set. If you're lucky enough to get the right one, it can push your build to the next set bonus.

You get the Torch from a single fight in the Echo of Tristram, with Diablo, Baal and Mephisto coming at you all at once. Getting into Tristram is a one-time job. What really costs you is every single try, because each run eats a coin and each coin eats three Splinters.

Quick version

  • Once: read all ten Deckard's Journals, then use Deckard's Memory in the Imperial Library to travel to Old Tristram.
  • Every run: one , which you make in the Horadric Cube from three Splinters: Terror, Destruction and Hatred.
  • The fight: pick Wish at the fountain in Tristram and step through the red portal, where all three Prime Evils fight you together.
  • Where to farm: Helltide on Torment X or higher, where rifts, elites, Whispers, ambushes and reputation caches all give you a shot at a Splinter.
  • Careful: don't right-click a Splinter, or the game will use it up to switch your Prime Evil power.

Need a Torch with your set right now? See the options and delivery in our shop. The rest of this guide is the farm route.

Step 1: unlock Old Tristram (once)

Start by finishing the season questline. It unlocks the Prime Evil powers and their reputation, and you'll need both once you start farming Splinters. You also need the Lord of Hatred expansion, since that's where the Horadric Cube comes from.

  1. Find all ten Deckard's Journals and read them. They are spread all over Sanctuary.
  2. Go back to Deckard Cain in the Imperial Library in Caldeum.
  3. Use Deckard's Memory, which takes you to Old Tristram.

You only do this once. From then on Tristram stays open, and each new run just costs a coin.

Step 2: make Wirt's Lucky Coin

One coin gets you one run. Drop one of each Splinter into the Horadric Cube and it turns them into . Splinters are Unique consumables, so if you can't find them, check the Consumables tab.

Don't mix these up

  • Your Prime Evil power is the one you picked, and it has its own reputation track. The recipe doesn't touch it.
  • The three Splinters are what goes into the Cube. Don't right-click them, because the game will spend one to switch your power.
  • Soul Splinters are socket gems from a different system and can't make a coin.

Once the third Splinter drops, put all three in the Cube right away so the slots are free for the next set. Farm on the character you're taking into Tristram, because moving Splinters through the stash or trading them isn't something you can count on.

Step 3: farm the Splinters

This is where it starts to hurt. Splinters drop rarely, and one run needs all three types. On top of that, you can only carry one of each.

Say you already have Terror and Destruction and you're still waiting for Hatred. When another Terror drops, you can't pick it up, so it stays on the ground, and you can't keep it for the next coin either. You end up running past the Splinters you already have while the one you need just doesn't show up.

  • TerrorIn your bag
  • DestructionIn your bag
  • HatredStill missing

Another Terror drops: Can't pick it up

One of each type fits in your bag. Every duplicate stays on the ground.

When the last one finally drops, you get exactly one run out of it. The Torch's set and stats are random, and if it rolls the wrong set for your build, you're back to collecting three Splinters from zero.

We'd start in Helltide, because you pick up reputation and loot on the way. If you prefer short runs, farm the Pinnacle dungeon your build clears fastest. Either way, turn every full set into a coin right away and keep going. A faster route means more drops, but it can't make the missing Splinter show up when you want it.

Which Torment level

Play on Torment X or higher. That's where the Pinnacle dungeons open, and it's where we'd run Helltide as well. Some players have found Splinters on lower Torment, but nobody knows the exact minimum for every activity yet. Only push Monster Power higher while you still clear fast.

Main route: a Helltide loop

The idea is to keep moving between big packs, rifts and objectives close to you. One loop gives you several chances at a Splinter and fills up your reputation for the repeatable caches at the same time. Long walks and slow fights kill that pace, so only take what your build finishes quickly.

  1. Clear Chaos Rifts and the biggest elite packs.
  2. Do the Whispers that are on your way and skip the ones across the map.
  3. Kill Prime Evil ambushes when they show up. The next part explains how to get more of them.
  4. If you've unlocked the Meat Brothers and Night Terrors Helltide bosses, kill them on the way.
  5. Once your reputation board is open, every 50,000 extra reputation gives you a repeatable cache. Open them right away. What's inside is random, so you can't choose the Splinter you need.

More ambushes from Whispers and events

Players found that you can spawn an Echo ambush by finishing local events and Whispers while a Prime Evil power is active. So keep your power on and do the objectives near you. If a Blood Maiden Whisper is up, join the fight and finish it.

Treat ambushes as a bonus. They don't follow a fixed timer, so keep doing objectives instead of waiting in one spot, and don't expect every objective to bring an ambush or the Splinter you're missing.

Other option: short Pinnacle runs

When there's no Helltide, or you're only missing one Splinter, run the red Pinnacle Waking Nightmare you clear fastest. All three open on Torment X and higher:

  • The Labyrinth in Scosglen, Diablo's dungeon
  • Worldstone Keep in the Fractured Peaks, Baal's dungeon
  • The Durance of Hate in Hawezar, Mephisto's dungeon

Judge them by the whole run, including travel, the reset, boss phases and picking up loot. Nobody has confirmed that a boss drops only its own Splinter, so Baal won't promise you a Splinter of Destruction. Higher Torment isn't proven to give more Splinters either, so stay on a level you clear fast.

Only if you level an alt anyway

An alt earns its own reputation caches, but they can give you Splinters you already have, or none at all. If you're leveling an alt anyway, open them. Making a new character just for Splinters isn't worth it, though. Leveling takes a long time, and the caches still won't promise the Splinter your main needs. Moving drops between characters doesn't work reliably either.

The fight and the loot

Baal, Diablo and Mephisto rise over Tristram Cathedral
Baal, Diablo and Mephisto wait behind the fountain, all three at once. Illustration: MMonster
  1. Go to the fountain in Old Tristram and pick Wish. This uses one coin.
  2. A red portal called ?????? opens and takes you to the Echo of Tristram.
  3. Walk to the middle of the arena, where Diablo, Baal and Mephisto attack you together.

The prize is the Hellfire Torch, a Mythic Charm whose stats roll in a range. Hover or tap the name to see them.

In a group

Make the party before anyone uses the fountain, and have everyone check their own Splinters and coin. Some players got only a Standard of Heroes, and at least one of them had joined the run late. Joining early may help, though it doesn't promise a Torch, so everyone should check their loot before you spend the next coin.

Is there a loot cooldown?

Nobody knows the current loot cooldown for sure. Some players got loot from runs back to back without the old one-hour wait, while others got no Torch on repeat runs. So don't plan around a fixed 60-minute timer.

Shortcuts: what still works

For Splinters, stick to the Helltide and Pinnacle routes above. The old endless farms have been fixed, and the newer reset tricks fail too often to build a farm on.

After the drop: check the set

When a new Torch drops, check which class set it counts for and whether the rolls fit your build. If the set is right, the snapshot is your next step, and our Hellfire Torch snapshot setup explains the seal swap.

The whole route in one line: unlock Tristram once, farm Splinters in Helltide, cube every full set into a coin and check the set on each Torch. If you'd rather skip the Splinter hunt, pick a Torch with the set you need and go straight to the snapshot.

FAQ

In the Echo of Tristram, where you fight Diablo, Baal and Mephisto at the same time. You get in by using Wirt's Lucky Coin at the fountain in Old Tristram.

Once, you need all ten Deckard's Journals to unlock Old Tristram. Every run after that costs one Wirt's Lucky Coin, which you make in the Horadric Cube from a Splinter of Terror, a Splinter of Destruction and a Splinter of Hatred.

With a geared character, farm Helltide on Torment X or higher. Clear Chaos Rifts and elites, do the Whispers on your way, kill Prime Evil ambushes and open the repeatable reputation caches as they come. If you're only missing one Splinter, short Pinnacle dungeon runs work too.

No. The journals unlock Old Tristram once, but each run costs a new coin, which means three new Splinters.

Not for sure. Some players got only a Standard of Heroes, so make the party before anyone uses the fountain and have everyone check their loot after the fight.

Nobody knows the current timer for sure. Some players got loot from runs back to back without the old one-hour wait, while others got no Torch on repeat runs. Each try costs a coin, so check your loot before the next one.

No guarantee per run is confirmed. The stats roll in a range and the class set that gets +1 is random, so check the set on every Torch you get.
