Diablo 4 Gold Farming Guide: Where to Farm Gold and Where It Goes
Gold is easy to come by early in Diablo 4 and runs out fast in the endgame. Masterworking and Enchanting both cost gold, so it helps to know which activities actually pay. This guide covers where to farm gold in Season 15, what Season 16 changes on the test server, and how not to burn your stash on the wrong upgrades.
Quick version (Season 15, checked November 4)
- Whispers: the Gold Cache from the Tree of Whispers is worth about 100 million gold on Torment XII since patch 3.2.1.
- Infernal Hordes: the gold chest at the end grows with the Burning Aether you collect.
- Helltide: Whispers, chests and loot to sell, all in one zone.
- Sell, don't hoard: gear you won't use is gold at the vendor.
- Gold find: the Gold Drop Rate affix and the Splinter of Lies raise what drops while you farm.
- The big costs are Masterworking and Enchanting. Finish one item before you start the next.

Where to farm gold in Season 15
No single activity is the best gold farm for every build. Most players mix two or three of the routes below and let gold pile up on the side while they chase gear, XP or Glyphs.
Whispers and the Gold Cache
Whispers are the bounties of the Tree of Whispers. Once you turn in 10 Grim Favors, you pick a cache, and the Gold Cache is the one you want for this farm. Patch 3.2.1 roughly tripled it: Blizzard's own example is about 100 million gold on Torment XII, up from about 35 million. The example is for Torment XII, so farm Whispers on the highest Torment level your build clears comfortably.
Whispers don't need their own trip. You pick them up while you play Helltide, Nightmare Dungeons or a War Plan, so the cache comes almost for free on top of whatever else you farm.
Infernal Hordes
In Infernal Hordes you collect Burning Aether wave by wave and spend it on the reward chests at the end. Patch 3.1 made the gold chest bigger and tied it to the Aether you bring, so a fast run with a lot of Aether pays best. Players spend their leftover Aether on gold once they've taken the materials they need. Blizzard doesn't publish how much gold one point of Aether is worth, so check the chest yourself after a few runs.
Helltide
A Helltide is a good all-round farm. Dense packs drop gold and gear, the Aberrant Cinders you collect open Tortured Gifts, and the zone is usually full of Whispers. Nobody has a fixed gold number for a Helltide chest, but the combination adds up: you sell the loot, cash in the Whispers and keep the materials.
Nightmare Dungeons and gilded enemies
Patch 3.2.1 fixed a bug that made gilded enemies drop less gold than intended, so elites with the gilded affix are worth chasing again. The players who farm gold hardest run Nightmare Dungeons with gold-focused Sigils and gear. One Torment XII player reported about a billion gold per run with such a setup. That's one player's result with gold find stacked high, so treat it as a ceiling rather than what you'll see on a normal build.
Selling items
Vendors pay gold for gear, while salvaging gives you crafting materials. Once your material stacks are healthy, sell what you won't wear instead of salvaging it. Seals and Charms you don't need for your Talisman also go to the vendor. Keep anything with an aspect or a Greater Affix you might still want, and sell the rest at the end of every session.
Gold find: affixes and the Splinter of Lies
Gold drops grow with gold find. Gear can roll the Gold Drop Rate affix, and community guides report up to 125% on a Greater Affix this season. The Splinter of Lies, Belial's Soul Splinter, raises the gold and crafting material drop rate (Blizzard's 3.2.0 test server values ran from 40% to 100% by rarity), but it also leaves you weaker in fights. Swap these in for a dedicated gold session, then go back to your damage gear for pushing.
War Plans
War Plans can put gold on the path to the War Chest, next to keys, materials and gear. If gold is your goal, pick the gold rewards when the planner offers them and chain activities that already pay well, like Whispers in Helltide and Infernal Hordes.
What Season 16 changes for gold
Blizzard tested Season 16 on the 3.3.0 test server from October 27 to November 3. These are test values and can still change, and Blizzard hasn't announced the season's start date yet.
- Tactics: up to 3 points in Gold rewards make gold show up more often in War Plans, on both Seasonal and Eternal.
- Marks of Wisdom replace gold when you move points in Tactics and the activity trees, so respeccing those trees no longer costs gold.
- Tyrael's Boons: the Scent of Gold path improves gold and XP and offers extra gold or gem drops. Removing a Boons point costs 5,000,000 gold.
- Helltide: Aberrant Cinders now carry over between Helltides, so Cinders you didn't spend before the timer ran out aren't lost.
Our Season 16 overview covers the rest of the new systems.
Where your gold goes
Most endgame upgrades cost gold on top of their materials, and a few of them can swallow a whole night of farming.
Masterworking
Masterworking raises an item's Quality to 25 in random steps of 2 to 5. Every step costs gold as well as Obducite, and at Quality 25 each reroll of the Capstone Bonus costs gold, Obducite and Neathiron. Quality can't be reset, so pick the item you'll keep before you start.
Enchanting
Enchanting at the Occultist rerolls one affix, and every reroll on the same item costs more gold than the last. That's where most stashes disappear: players chasing one perfect roll report single rerolls of tens of millions. Since 3.2.1, an Ancestral item also needs 10 Forgotten Souls per Enchant instead of 25. If the price has climbed and the roll still won't land, a fresh drop with better base affixes is often cheaper than ten more tries.
Tempering and respecs
Tempering runs on Tempering Manuals and Scrolls of Restoration. Each Scroll restores one Tempering charge, and you can use them as often as you like. Refunding Paragon nodes and skill points costs gold, so save your favourite setups in the Armory: switching between saved loadouts is free.
When an upgrade costs more than your farm brings in, you can buy Diablo 4 gold for the realm you play on and keep your evenings for the content you enjoy.
Our gold plan
- Play Helltide on your highest comfortable Torment level and do every Whisper you pass. Take the Gold Cache.
- Run Infernal Hordes when you have Compasses, and put leftover Aether into gold.
- Sell everything you won't wear at the end of each session. Salvage only when you need materials.
- For a dedicated gold session, swap in Gold Drop Rate gear and the Splinter of Lies, then hunt gilded elites in Nightmare Dungeons.
- Spend in order: Masterwork your best item first, and stop Enchanting when the reroll price gets out of hand.
In short: Whispers and Infernal Hordes bring steady gold, gold find boosts dungeons and Helltide, and selling unused gear fills the gaps. If the bill still outruns your farm, Diablo 4 Gold from our shop is handed over by trade in the game, without account access.

FAQ
There's no single best farm for every build. Whispers with the Gold Cache, Infernal Hordes with a big Aether haul and selling unused gear are steady sources. With gold find gear and the Splinter of Lies, Nightmare Dungeons and Helltide drop a lot more gold.
Blizzard's example for patch 3.2.1 is about 100 million gold on Torment XII, up from about 35 million before the patch.
Selling gives gold, salvaging gives crafting materials. Once your material stacks are healthy, sell the gear you won't wear and salvage only when you run short of materials.
Masterworking and Enchanting. Every Masterworking step costs gold and Obducite, and each Enchant reroll on the same item costs more than the last. The game shows the price before you confirm.
999,999,999,999 gold, raised from 99,999,999,999 in patch 3.1.
On the 3.3.0 test server, Tactics points can make gold rewards appear more often in War Plans, Marks of Wisdom replace gold for respeccing War Plans trees, and Aberrant Cinders carry over between Helltides. These are test values and can change before release.
