Diablo 4 Talisman Guide: Seals, Set Bonuses and Horadric Items

The Talisman is where a Season 15 build comes together. One Horadric Seal sits in the middle and opens up to six Charm slots, and the Charms you put in them give skill ranks, stats and, most of all, set bonuses. With the wrong Seal or a mixed bag of Charms, a slot stays empty or a bonus never turns on.

Season 16 adds Horadric Items, rings, amulets and gear that count toward one Talisman set. Below you'll find how the Talisman works right now, how to fill all six slots and where to farm the pieces, plus what the test server shows about Horadric Items so far.

Quick version

  • You need: the Lord of Hatred expansion and the quest The Last of the Horadrim from Lorath, which unlocks the Talisman.
  • The Seal sets the slots: five slots fit one full class set, six leave room for a Unique Charm. Always read the tooltip.
  • Set bonuses turn on at 2, 3 and 5 Charms of the same class set. General sets stop at 2 or 3.
  • Unique Charms: most Seals allow one. Seal of the Golden Epiphany allows up to three, and the Hellfire Torch adds one more.
  • Farming: players see Set Charms from Torment III, Unique Charms from Torment VIII and Mythic Seals from Torment X. The Chest of Talismans in Infernal Hordes costs 200 Aether.
  • Season 16: Horadric jewelry adds +1 to the count of one specific set. That comes from the test server and can still change.

How the Talisman works

The Talisman is a system of the Lord of Hatred expansion, so without it you won't see the panel at all. You unlock it with the quest The Last of the Horadrim, which you get from Lorath. After that the Talisman has its own place in your inventory, next to your gear.

It has two kinds of pieces. The Seal goes in the centre and decides how many Charm slots are open. Charms go into those slots, and each one rolls stats like skill ranks to one skill group of your class. Blizzard confirmed that identical bonuses from regular Charms add up, so two Charms with the same skill group give you both bonuses.

The most common layout: a six-slot Seal, five Charms of one class set for the full bonus and one Unique Charm.

Seals: how many slots you get

Your Seal is the first thing to check, because it limits everything else. Players report these slot counts on the Seals they find. Patches have changed Seals before, so the tooltip of your own Seal is what counts.

Seal Charm slots Good for
Early Seals while leveling3A first 3-piece bonus
Rare Seal4A 3-piece bonus and a spare slot
Legendary Horadric Seal5Exactly one full class set
Seal with the +1 Charm Slot affix6A full set plus a Unique Charm
Mythic Seals: Diamond Mind, Golden Epiphany6Six slots and a special power
Annihilus, a Unique Seal6Builds that love extra skill ranks

Seal of the Diamond Mind is the Seal for two sets at once. Every set needs one Charm less for its bonuses, but never fewer than two. So the 3-piece bonus needs only two Charms and the full 5-piece bonus needs four, while the 2-piece bonus still needs two. With six slots you can run one complete set and the 3-piece bonus of a second set.

Seal of the Golden Epiphany is for builds that lean on Unique Charms. It lets you equip up to three of them, and since patch 3.1.0 it no longer takes away two Charm slots for that.

Annihilus is a Unique Seal from Uber Diablo with six slots, big stats, extra skill ranks and bonus experience. Its two Seal Powers carry the names of class sets, but they are separate bonuses and don't count as an extra Set Charm. If you swap Diamond Mind for Annihilus, a two-set layout loses its shortcut, so check the whole Talisman before you switch.

Set Charms and set bonuses

Every class has five sets, and each set has five Set Charms. The Charms of one set share a shape and a set name, while the rune on each one is different. Bonuses turn on in three steps: at 2, 3 and 5 Charms of the same set. The 5-piece bonus is usually the one a build is built around, so a full set needs a Seal with at least five slots.

On top of the class sets there are general sets that any class can use, for example Dark Pact, Mastery, Practiced Technique, Slaughter and Survival. Their bonuses end at 2 or 3 Charms, which makes them a good filler for one or two leftover slots.

The Hellfire Torch also plays here. Each Torch counts as one more Charm of a random class set, so a Torch with your set can replace one Set Charm and free a slot. Some Barbarian players report that their Torch didn't count toward Berserker's Crucible while others say only the tooltip is wrong. Nobody knows for sure yet, so test your bonus before you sell a Charm.

Unique Charms and Mythic Charms

A Unique Charm carries the power of a Unique item, but in the form of a Charm. You can turn an Ancestral Unique into its Charm in the Horadric Cube, so a Unique you don't wear anymore can still work for you. Most Seals take one Unique Charm, the Golden Epiphany takes up to three.

Mythic Charms are the top tier. The one everyone chases is the Hellfire Torch: all stats, resistance to all elements, up to +5 to all skills with a Greater Affix, room for one more Unique Charm and +1 to a random class set. You get it from the Echo of Tristram, and our Hellfire Torch farming guide has the full route.

Three Talisman layouts that work

Most builds use one of these three layouts. Pick the one that matches your Seal, then fill it from your build guide.

1. One full set and a Unique Charm

  1. Any six-slot SealLegendary with +1 slot, Mythic or Annihilus
  2. Set A
  3. Set A
  4. Set A
  5. Set A
  6. Set A
  7. Unique

This is the simple choice, and the right one for most players. You get the full 5-piece bonus and one Unique power. With a five-slot Seal you drop the Unique Charm and keep the set.

2. Diamond Mind: two sets at once

  1. Seal of the Diamond MindSets need one Charm less, minimum two
  2. Set A
  3. Set A
  4. Set A
  5. Set A
  6. Set B
  7. Set B

Four Charms give the full bonus of set A and two Charms give the 3-piece bonus of set B. A Lightning Storm Druid for Mythic pushing, for example, runs four Song of the Old Mountain and two Storm Shepherd's Call this way. It only pays off when your build really wants both sets.

3. Hellfire Torch in place of a Set Charm

  1. Any six-slot Seal
  2. Set A
  3. Set A
  4. Set A
  5. Set A
  6. Hellfire Torch+1 to set A
  7. Unique

A Torch that rolled your set counts as the fifth Charm, so you keep the full bonus and still get the Torch's skills and stats. Check that the set shows 5/5 after you equip it, because a few players report a Torch that didn't count. If the Torch rolled a different set, it works as a strong stat Charm and your set needs all five of its own Charms.

Where to farm Seals and Charms

Seals and Charms drop from regular loot, and higher Torment tiers give you better pieces. Players see Set Charms from Torment III, Unique Charms from Torment VIII and Mythic Seals from Torment X. These are player observations, not a drop table from Blizzard.

  • Infernal Hordes: the Chest of Talismans costs 200 Aether. Blizzard fixed a bug in patch 3.1.0 where it opened for 100. One player recommends buying it once per run and keeping runs short instead of going for ten waves only for this chest. More on the mode in our Infernal Hordes guide.
  • War Plans and the Undercity: the same player puts short Hordes runs early in a War Plan and follows them with the Kurast Undercity using a Greater Tribute of the Horadrim. Read the tooltip of your Tribute, because what it adds depends on the Tribute and your Attunement rank.
  • Loot filter: players warn that a rule which hides all non-Ancestral items can also hide Mythic Seals. Add a rule that always shows Seals.

Fix your Charms in the Horadric Cube

Keep a Charm with the right set even when its rolls are weak, because the Horadric Cube can fix it. Three recipes help here, and each one changes something different.

Recipe What it changes What it keeps
Affix Value RerollThe values of the base affixes; on a Seal also the values of its set powersThe affixes themselves, Greater Affixes and Tempers
Horadric RerollThe base affixes of a Legendary, Set, Unique or Mythic Talisman pieceSet bonuses and Unique or Mythic powers
Three of a kindThree items of one type become a new one of that typeThe item type; the result is random

One warning: the Affix Value Reroll makes Annihilus account bound, so trade it before you reroll it, never after. Players also report that salvaging a Mythic Seal gives back very little, so a spare Seal is usually worth more as Cube material.

Season 16: Horadric Items (test server)

Everything in this section comes from the public test server for patch 3.3.0 and can change before launch. GameSpot reports that Season 16 starts on December 1, but Blizzard hasn't announced a date yet.

Horadric Items are Legendary items with one extra affix tied to one specific Talisman set. On rings and amulets that affix adds +1 to the count of that set. One matching Charm plus one matching ring therefore already gives the 2-piece bonus. Blizzard showed the ring Hoop of Fathomless Dark with +1 to Rite of the Nameless, and its picture was marked as not final.

Horadric weapons and armor work differently. They don't add to the count. Instead they give that set an extra effect, such as skill ranks, damage or defense, which turns on once you have at least the 2-piece bonus. Data miners found that general sets show up only on jewelry, that any Legendary from level 25 can drop as a Horadric Item and that the chance rises with the difficulty. Blizzard hasn't confirmed those three.

Nobody knows yet how many Horadric Items count at once, or whether they stack with Seal of the Diamond Mind or a Hellfire Torch. Some creators already plan two full 5-piece sets with jewelry and Diamond Mind, but nobody has shown that working. Trading isn't settled either: a ring from the test server was marked Account Bound, and Blizzard hasn't said whether Horadric Items can be traded.

What you can do now: keep the Set Charms of the sets your build might use in Season 16, keep Seal of the Diamond Mind, and read our Season 16 guide for the rest of the new systems.

Our Talisman plan

  1. Check your Seal. Five slots: build one full set. Six slots: add a Unique Charm.
  2. Finish one set first. With five slots, one full set beats two half sets for most builds.
  3. Farm on the right tier. Set Charms come early, Unique Charms and Mythic Seals need Torment VIII and X.
  4. Reroll before you replace. A Charm with the right set and weak rolls is a Cube job, not a salvage job.
  5. Get ready for Season 16. Keep spare Charms and your Diamond Mind until Horadric Items are live.

You can farm every piece yourself with the route above, or get a full set with a Seal from us and spend your runs on Unique Charms instead.

FAQ

You need the Lord of Hatred expansion. Lorath gives you the quest The Last of the Horadrim, and it unlocks the Talisman next to your gear.

Use a Seal that opens six slots: a Legendary Seal with the +1 Charm Slot affix, a Mythic Seal such as Diamond Mind or Golden Epiphany, or Annihilus. A regular Legendary Seal opens five. Check the tooltip, because the Seal decides the number.

Each class has five sets of five Set Charms. A set gives bonuses at 2, 3 and 5 Charms of that set, and the 5-piece bonus is usually the one a build needs. General sets for every class stop at 2 or 3 Charms.

Every set needs one Charm less for its bonuses, but never fewer than two. Four Charms give the full 5-piece bonus and two give the 3-piece bonus, so with six slots you can run one full set and the 3-piece bonus of a second set.

One with most Seals. Seal of the Golden Epiphany allows up to three, and the Hellfire Torch lets you equip one more.

Legendary items from the Season 16 test server with an affix tied to one Talisman set. On rings and amulets it adds +1 to that set's count, so one matching Charm already gives the 2-piece bonus. Test server data can still change before launch.

Blizzard hasn't said. A ring on the test server was marked Account Bound, so don't plan on trading them until Season 16 is live.

Keep Charms of sets your build might use and reroll weak ones in the Horadric Cube. Three items of one type can become a new one, and players report that salvaging a Mythic Seal gives back very little.
