The Echoes of Lorath, Neyrelle and Donan channel violet magic at the corners of a glowing purple triangle in a dark Horadrim room in Diablo 4

Diablo 4 Unlucky Council Guide: How to Unlock and Beat the Secret Horadrim Fight

Deep in the Fractured Peaks, Lorath's old cabin hides a fight the game never mentions. Inside, the Echoes of Donan, Neyrelle and Lorath stand around a dark gathering, and they attack anyone who walks in. Players call them the Unlucky Council. You can only get in wearing three cursed trinkets, and those trinkets fight against you the whole time.

This guide explains what the Council is, how to unlock it from scratch and how to beat the three Echoes. The reward comes last.

Hover over or tap an item name to see its tooltip. The cards show value ranges from the game data, so your own roll can differ.

The Unlucky Council at a glance

  • What it is: a secret boss fight in Season 15 against three Horadrim Echoes, found by players on September 26, 2026.
  • How to unlock it: collect three cursed trinkets (two rings and an amulet), equip them and enter the Windswept Cabin on Torment XII.
  • How long it takes: at least a day, because the last trinket needs a 24-hour wait. Two steps need other players.
  • How to win: a build that works without Resource, Unstoppable for the knockdowns, Donan first and no contact with the purple lines.
  • The reward: the Unlucky title and the Horadric Coin.

Your rings and amulet are locked to the cursed trinkets in this fight, so your Talisman has to carry more of your build. If yours still has gaps, Annihilus from our shop brings All Stats, resistances and skill ranks in one seal.

What the Unlucky Council is

The Council is made of three people every Diablo 4 player knows from the story. Here they appear as Echoes, ghostly copies, and that matters, because at least two of them are dead.

  • Donan is the Horadrim who guarded the soulstone of the demon Astaroth and whose son Yorin became Astaroth's host. He helps you hunt Lilith in the base campaign and doesn't survive it.
  • Neyrelle trapped Mephisto in a soulstone at the end of the base campaign and carried it to Nahantu herself. Blizzard's tribute before Lord of Hatred confirms that she died after that journey.
  • Lorath is the disillusioned Horadrim mentor who brought you into the fight against Lilith. He is still part of the story in Lord of Hatred.

Inside the cabin, the three Echoes stand in a circle as if they were trying to summon something. What they are summoning, nobody knows. The game shows no dialogue or lore text about it, so treat any theory you read as a guess.

Why it is called the Unlucky Council

The name comes from the three trinkets you must wear. Each one looks harmless and carries a curse, and the flavor texts say so: the Ring of Misfortune "fills you with dread", the Ring of the Jinx "invites calamity" and the Amulet of Dark Omens "breeds malice around you". Beat the Council and you earn the title Unlucky.

A secret that took two years

The Council is the end of a chain of luck secrets that players solved one piece at a time. The Lucky Coin and the Ring of Misfortune were found in August 2024. The Luckier Coin and the Ring of the Jinx followed in Season 8 in 2025. In Season 15 a secret-hunting community of about 60 players found the Luckiest Coin, the Amulet of Dark Omens and finally the Council itself. Blizzard hasn't commented on it so far.

Don't mix it up with the other councils of this season. The Fell Council belongs to the Infernal Hordes, and the three Prime Evils Diablo, Baal and Mephisto wait in the Echo of Tristram. The Wirt's Lucky Coins from the Tristram secret have nothing to do with this chain either.

Players have cleared the Council in Seasonal and in the Eternal Realm. Whether it stays in the game after Season 15 ends is not known yet.

How to unlock the Unlucky Council

You need three trinkets, and each comes from its own coin. You can do the three parts in any order. Before you start, check these points:

  • Torment XII unlocked, because the cabin opens only on this difficulty.
  • Both expansions. The second trinket comes from Nahantu (Vessel of Hatred), the third from Skovos (Lord of Hatred, which includes Vessel of Hatred).
  • Your loot filter showing Common and Unique items. The coins drop as Common items and the trinkets as Uniques, so a strict filter hides them.
  • Friends. The first trinket needs five characters of five different classes, the third needs four players.

Step 1: Ring of Misfortune (Lucky Coin and Wishing Well)

  1. Find a small death scene in the open world: a monster kills an NPC in front of you and leaves a body you can search. Players report scenes with Fallen, bandits, Drowned, snakes and Goatmen, and Eastern Hawezar is a good area to look. Let the monster finish the job, don't save the NPC.
  2. Take a Greed Shrine and get back to the body while its effect is still active. Pick a shrine you can reach the body from in well under 30 seconds.
  3. Search the body with the shrine active. The coin needs Lucky Hit Chance. Guides name 33%, 40% or 50% and more, and some players still missed with very high values, so raise it as far as you can and keep trying.
  4. Collect five Lucky Coins on five characters of different classes.
  5. Meet at the Wishing Well in The Downs, Scosglen, east of Cerrigar. A party holds only four players, so four of you go to the Well while the fifth stays in the same world, leaves the party and gets invited back. Two friends who switch between characters can manage it too, as long as one of them keeps the world open.
  6. Throw the coins one by one and wait for each effect to end. The first gives the Well-Wisher title, the second a 10-minute Unlucky debuff, the third stuns you and calls snakes and locusts, the fourth rains hellfire, and the fifth drops the Ring of Misfortune.

Every coin must come from a different class. A repeated class breaks the sequence, and you have to farm new coins.

Step 2: Ring of the Jinx (Luckier Coin and Moss-covered Grave)

  1. Find a Blast Wave Shrine outdoors in Nahantu. Lower Kurast and the Restless Canopy are good spots, because there are a lot of breakable objects around. Dungeons don't work.
  2. Break a Container with the shrine's blast. Hover over objects and pick one the game names "Container". Guides disagree on whether barrels or baskets also work, so stick to Containers.
  3. Follow the rat. If you're lucky, a special rat appears without a sound. You can't kill it, and it doesn't run from you. Stay with it until it explodes on its own, which players say takes anywhere from two to seven minutes. It leaves the Luckier Coin behind. Don't leave the area during the chase.
  4. Bring the coin to the Moss-covered Grave west of Samuk in the Five Hills and use it. The ring drops only for the player who used the coin.

Step 3: Amulet of Dark Omens (Luckiest Coin and Pillow)

  1. Form a party of exactly four players and travel to Skartara in Skovos. Nobody has made it work with fewer.
  2. Send one player to each of four rare golem elites: Droplet in the east near the Gray Hills, Snagging Vein on the East Face of Mount Hefaetrus, Flowing Rage at the Temple of Wisdom in the north-west and Raging Fissure on the Gasping Slopes in the south-west.
  3. Count down and kill all four within a few seconds. The order doesn't matter. When it works, a counter reaches four, a line reads "From many Tempers, a single token" and every player gets a Luckiest Coin.
  4. Place the coin on the Pillow, a spot in southern Temis east of The Aegoye, and note the exact time.
  5. Come back after exactly 24 real hours. Players report a window of only about two minutes. Interact with the Pillow again to get the Amulet of Dark Omens. Miss the window and the coin is gone.

For the golems, pick a quiet difficulty so no stranger kills one early, and check that all four are alive before the countdown. Don't drag a golem far away, because it can reset to its spawn point. Bring spare coins if you have them, and set an alarm for the Pillow a few minutes early. Nobody has tested whether logging out affects the timer, so arrive early.

Step 4: Enter the Echo of the Damned

  1. Equip all three trinkets in your ring and amulet slots and switch to Torment XII.
  2. Teleport to the dungeon Lair of the Beast in Ice and step outside.
  3. Head west to the Windswept Cabin, Lorath's cabin, south-west of Kyovashad on the way to Nevesk.
  4. Inside, a portal called Echo of the Damned appears only with the full set equipped. It takes you to the arena.

In a group, every player who wants the reward has to wear all three trinkets for the whole fight. Don't bring a friend without them: players report that one unequipped character can cost the whole group its reward.

How to beat the Unlucky Council

Get your build ready for the curses

Each trinket brings one curse, and all three hit at once:

  • Ring of Misfortune: on Lucky Hit, you have up to a 100% chance to lose all of your Resource. Builds that keep casting a costly core skill fall apart here.
  • Amulet of Dark Omens: its curse reads "The people of Sanctuary reject you". A villager throws tomatoes at you, and a hit knocks you down for several seconds. Only being Unstoppable stops it, though minions can block a throw.
  • Ring of the Jinx: objects around you often break. It's a nuisance and has nothing to do with your Resource.

You also lose the stats of your own rings and amulet. Test your build with the three trinkets before you enter. You need damage that doesn't depend on spending Resource, a way to heal, Unstoppable when you need it and a fast movement skill.

Builds that cleared it

  • Paladin with Shield of Retribution: cleared in Hardcore. According to the player, Fortress removes the Resource cost of skills and stays up all the time, so the Ring of Misfortune barely matters.
  • Necromancer shadow mage: a solo clear in Eternal Hardcore in about three minutes. The player dropped the core skill for Corpse Tendrils, kept Blood Mist and Decrepify going through cooldown reduction and healed with Endurant Faith. Minions also block tomatoes and projectiles. The gear was top end, with Mythic Uniques.
  • Warlock with Blazing Scream: reported as the first clear in Seasonal. The Warlock spams Command Fallen to build Resource and casts Blazing Scream whenever a little is left. Metamorphosis makes it Unstoppable.
  • Rogue: a solo clear in Softcore, without build details.

Whirlwind Barbarian, Auradin and wolf Druid show up in forum advice, but nobody who suggested them had done the fight.

Every class has skills that make you Unstoppable. Check the cooldowns in your own build:

Class Skills that make you Unstoppable
BarbarianCharge, Iron Skin, Rallying Cry, Wrath of the Berserker
DruidBlood Howl, Earthen Bulwark, Grizzly Rage, Trample, Wolves
NecromancerBlood Mist, Golem
PaladinDefiance Aura, Fortress, Aegis, Zenith
RogueShadow Clone, Shadow Step, Concealment
SorcererDeep Freeze, Ice Armor
SpiritbornSoar, Armored Hide, Concussive Stomp, Payback, The Protector
WarlockMetamorphosis, Command Abodian, Tortured Wretch, Tyrant's Grasp

Let your Talisman carry the build

The trinkets take your ring and amulet slots, but your Talisman stays free, so that's where you win back the lost stats.

Annihilus suits this fight well. It gives All Stats, Resistance to All Elements and up to +10 to All Skills, which makes up for lost ring stats and helps you live through the group attacks. If you don't want to wait for Uber Diablo, see our Annihilus guide or choose one for your class in the shop.

A Hellfire Torch that counts toward your class set saves you a Set Charm, and that slot can hold another Unique Charm. Some players go further with the Torch seal swap, which runs a full set bonus and two extra Unique Charms at once. Blizzard has said it stays as it is for Season 15, and our Hellfire Torch snapshot guide shows how it works. You don't need it to win.

The arena

The portal leads into a compact stone room. Shelves line one side and loose furniture sits along the walls, so watch for narrow gaps where you can get stuck. Players report that the fight starts when you step into the circle in the middle of the room.

The three Echoes and their attacks

Echo Attacks and how to counter them
Donan Links himself to another Echo and gives it a large shield and more damage. Leaves a big dark circle around himself that pulls you in. Casts a short stun and fires slow, large missiles.
Counter: Kill him first. If the circle pulls you, run to its edge and hold there for a second to break free.
Neyrelle Hits hard up close. Vanishes and reappears with three small blasts in a Y shape that knock you back. You get Dazed if you aren't Unstoppable when she comes back.
Counter: Keep an Unstoppable skill for her and stay off the Y marks.
Lorath Raises up to five purple orbs and fires them one after another. Covers the floor with runes that hit very hard. Sends a moving triangle after you that makes you Vulnerable, and swings his staff up close.
Counter: Move sideways as soon as you see five orbs above him. Never stand on the runes and keep space free to move.

The group attacks

From time to time each Echo walks to a corner and the three form a large purple triangle. Once it stands, you can't interrupt the attack, and the lines of the triangle hurt badly if you touch them. Nobody has worked out the timing or a health threshold, so expect it at any moment. One of three attacks follows:

The three Echoes of the Unlucky Council form a purple triangle of light lines across the arena in Diablo 4, Echo of Lorath at the bottom corner
The purple lines join the three Echoes. Lorath stands at the bottom corner. Don't cross the lines. Screenshot: RubyRose / VULKK
  • Frost orb: a ball of ice in the middle fires frost shots at you about once a second, and from time to time large zones cover the center. Make short steps between the shots. Near the edges the big zones don't reach you, but you have less room.
  • Turning beams: a small triangle turns clockwise inside the big one, and a purple beam slowly hunts you. A touch can kill you. Move with the gap the turning triangle leaves and keep a movement skill ready.
  • Slow projectiles: the Echoes take turns firing a large, slow shot at the spot where you stand. It's the easiest of the three, because only one shot comes at a time. Step out of its path and keep an eye on shots that are still flying. Shelves can block them when a minion stands in the way.

One player who beat it runs along the bottom side of the triangle, from below Donan past Lorath to just short of Neyrelle. That works from their starting corner, but it isn't a safe route for every pull, so learn the pattern rather than a fixed path. In a group, a calm group attack is a good moment to revive a teammate.

Kill order

Everyone agrees on Donan first. His shield and damage buff make the other two much harder, and his pull and stun cause a lot of deaths. After him, guides split. One takes Lorath next, because his orbs and runes kill fastest if you can heal through Neyrelle's melee. Another takes Neyrelle next, because her Daze and close-range hits break your rhythm. Pick the one who hurts you more.

A defeated Echo stops following you, but it still joins the group attacks and hits you if you walk up to it.

Solo, group and Hardcore

  • Solo works. Most reported clears are solo. A clear takes anywhere from about three minutes with top gear to eight or ten minutes for most builds.
  • In a group the Echoes get some extra Life. How much is unknown, and so are the rules for revives and whether every player gets a coin.
  • In Hardcore one mistake in a group attack can kill you outright. Learn the patterns in Softcore first if you can.

The reward: title and Horadric Coin

When the last Echo falls, you earn the Unlucky title, and the Horadric Coin drops with the rest of the loot. In Hardcore you get the Hardcore title and an Unlucky Hardcore achievement instead.

You can't equip the coin. In the Horadric Cube, 1 Horadric Coin, 2 Engagement Rings and 1 Lost Amulet make the Sack of Ill Trinkets. You fish up the rings and amulets as junk, and they also come from the Fortune or Famine cache of the Tree of Whispers. After you craft the sack once, Squirt the Peddler in Temis sells it to you. It holds all three trinkets, so your other characters skip the whole coin chain.

One player who crafted the sack in Softcore could buy it in Hardcore too, and another used it in Solo Self-Found Hardcore. Nobody has tested every mode yet. The coin's tooltip says "One flip may seal your fate", and so far nobody knows what flipping it does, if anything.

Quick plan

  1. Prepare: Torment XII, both expansions, loot filter showing Common and Unique items.
  2. Ring of Misfortune: five Lucky Coins from five classes, thrown into the Wishing Well one by one.
  3. Ring of the Jinx: Blast Wave Shrine, a Container, the rat, the Moss-covered Grave.
  4. Amulet of Dark Omens: four golems at once, the Pillow, an alarm for 24 hours later.
  5. Build: damage without Resource, healing, Unstoppable and a movement skill, tested with all three trinkets.
  6. Fight: Windswept Cabin, Donan first, never touch the lines.
  7. Afterwards: craft the Sack of Ill Trinkets for your other characters.

Conclusion

Most of the work happens before the first pull. Unlocking the Council takes a few friends and a day of waiting, and the trinkets force you to rebuild around Unstoppable, healing and damage that doesn't need Resource. In the arena, take Donan down first and learn the three group attacks before you push damage. After one win, the Sack of Ill Trinkets saves your other characters the whole coin chain.

You can build the power for this fight yourself through Uber Diablo and the Echo of Tristram, or take it from our shop: Annihilus for your class or a Hellfire Torch for your set.

FAQ

A secret boss fight in Season 15 against the Echoes of Donan, Neyrelle and Lorath, three Horadrim from the story. It waits behind a portal in the Windswept Cabin in the Fractured Peaks. Players found it on September 26, 2026, and Blizzard hasn't commented on it.

Collect three trinkets: the Ring of Misfortune from five Lucky Coins at the Wishing Well in Scosglen, the Ring of the Jinx from the Luckier Coin at the Moss-covered Grave in Nahantu and the Amulet of Dark Omens from the Luckiest Coin on the Pillow in Temis. Equip all three, switch to Torment XII and enter the Echo of the Damned portal in the Windswept Cabin.

The Echo of the Damned portal appears only when you wear all three trinkets and play on Torment XII. Check that the rings and the amulet sit in your equipment slots, not just in your inventory.

Yes. Most reported clears are solo, in Softcore and in Eternal Hardcore. Only two steps of the unlock need other players: five classes at the Wishing Well and four players for the golems.

That's the Ring of Misfortune. On Lucky Hit it has up to a 100% chance to drain all of your Resource. Use skills that don't depend on spending Resource all the time, or a Paladin with Fortress.

Donan first, because he shields and strengthens the other two. After that, players disagree: take Neyrelle or Lorath next, whoever hurts you more.

The Unlucky title, or the Hardcore title in Hardcore, and the Horadric Coin. In the Horadric Cube, the coin with 2 Engagement Rings and 1 Lost Amulet makes the Sack of Ill Trinkets, which Squirt the Peddler in Temis then sells you so your other characters get the three trinkets without the coin chain.

No. Players have also cleared it in the Eternal Realm. Whether it stays after Season 15 is not known yet.
