How to Get to Whimsyshire in Diablo 4
To get to Whimsyshire in Diablo 4, use a Liquid Rainbow: Season Rank V gives everyone one, and it opens a rainbow portal right next to you. The candy-coloured secret level from Diablo III is back in Season 15, full of unicorns, smiling clouds and teddy bears that want you dead. Extra trips come from luck, mostly from a rare pop-up called the Cornerstone of the World.
Quick version
- Sure way: reach Season Rank V. Its reward is a Liquid Rainbow, and you get there by clearing the Worldstone Keep Waking Nightmare on Torment IV and beating Baal.
- Lucky way: the Cornerstone of the World, a pop-up Waking Nightmare in the open world. Players report Treasure Goblins, a free Whimsyshire portal or the Forgotten Monk there.
- Before you use it: clear your schedule and your bags. The rainbow is gone once the portal opens.
- Inside: clear the whole map for runes and materials, then beat Neigh'relle for the Fancy Pants title.
Want Season Rank V sooner? Book a booster by the hour: a booster plays next to you for the hours you book, and you decide whether that time goes into season objectives, Helltides or anything else. The rest of this guide is the route you can do on your own.
The sure way: Liquid Rainbow from Season Rank V
The Liquid Rainbow is a seasonal consumable, and the one you can count on sits on Season Rank V. The objective that finishes that rank is the Worldstone Keep Waking Nightmare on Torment IV, where Baal waits at the end. Once Baal is down, open your Season Rank screen and claim the reward.
Some guides say the rainbow is on rank VI. The mix-up comes from the same Worldstone Keep clear, because it completes rank V and unlocks rank VI in one go. If the item isn't in your bags, check the rank screen first, since unclaimed rewards wait there.
Using the rainbow
Use it and a rainbow portal named Whimsyshire opens next to you. That works almost anywhere in the open world and in normal dungeons, but players found that it's blocked in the Pit, the Tower, the Kurast Undercity and Nightmare Dungeons. The rainbow is used up the moment the portal appears, so you get one trip per rainbow.
On the forums, a few players lost their trip because the portal vanished after a disconnect or because they logged out before stepping in. So use it when you have half an hour, walk in right away and don't leave the game while the portal is open.
The lucky way: the Cornerstone of the World
Season 15 has small Waking Nightmares that pop up in the open world: a portal appears on your route, you step through and fight one short encounter from an older Diablo game. Players have counted 14 of these pop-ups, and the one Whimsyshire hunters want is the Cornerstone of the World.
Its zone is called Diablo Hellfire - The Cornerstone, a nod to Hellfire, the 1997 expansion of the first Diablo. Back then the Cornerstone of the World was a secret stone where you could leave an item and pick it up in another game. In Diablo 4, players' runs show a dark round room with a square stone in the middle, and your only task is to attune with the Cornerstone by using that stone.
What happens next changes from run to run. Players report three outcomes:
- A pack of Treasure Goblins. The game files hold a spawn of up to six goblins for this room, and players have shown runs with the room full of them.
- A rainbow portal to Whimsyshire. It opens on the stone itself, so you get a trip without spending a rainbow.
- The Forgotten Monk, Brother of the Bough. A fitting guest, since the Monk first joined the series as a class in Hellfire. Players report that he can drop the Chat Gem, and some say he gave them a Liquid Rainbow too, which nobody has confirmed yet.
None of these is guaranteed, and nobody has published drop rates, so treat every Cornerstone as a small lottery ticket.
How to find it more often
No one has found a reliable way to farm it yet. Pop-ups appear while you play the open world, and the game files point to a cooldown between them, with no known length. You'll see claims that World Bosses, especially Azmodan, or the ruptures in Helltide bring more Cornerstones. We haven't seen anything behind them beyond a few lucky streaks, so we wouldn't plan a farm around one boss.
So play the open-world content you need anyway and step into every pop-up portal you pass, because the portal doesn't wait for you. Helltide packs a lot of kills and events into every minute, so you pass plenty of pop-up chances while you farm reputation in the Pandemonium Ruptures in the Helltide. If you're new to it, start with our Helltide farming guide. World Bosses are worth a visit too, since with some luck you get the Uber Diablo after World Bosses on top.
Not every pop-up is the Cornerstone. One of them is named only "??????", and it leads to the Echo of Tristram, the fight for the Hellfire Torch. The full set of seasonal Waking Nightmares is in our Season 15 guide.
Inside Whimsyshire: Neigh'relle and the Fancy Pants title
The portal drops you into a world of rainbows and candy, which is about as far from Sanctuary as Diablo gets. The locals are less friendly than they look, because the Unicorns and Cuddle Bears come at you in full packs. An event called Sweet Dream starts the visit, and from there you work your way across the map to the Den of Whimsy.
Since you may only get one visit, clear the whole map instead of running to the boss. Happy Clouds, Candy Jars and chests give extra loot when you open them, and players report a nice pile of low and mid runes, Soul Splinters, crafting materials and gold from a full clear. Don't expect a high rune or a guaranteed Mythic, though, so plan it as a fun bonus run on top of your usual farm.
At the end of the Den of Whimsy waits Neigh'relle, a unicorn with a bad temper. Beat it and you unlock the Fancy Pants title, the trophy of the whole trip.
The Chat Gem: a joke for veterans
Chat Gem
"Its effect is nearly imperceptible."
The Chat Gem is a real legendary gem in the Season 15 game files. Players report finding it in the Cornerstone room, either from the Forgotten Monk or on the stone itself. Socket it into jewellery and your chat says "Chat Gem Activated". Veterans know it as an old Diablo II joke, and that's all it does as far as anyone knows.
You'll find theories that it opens another secret or belongs to a puzzle. Nobody has shown that, so keep it as a trophy and don't trade a good item slot for it.
Our plan for Whimsyshire
- Push the season to rank V. Clear Worldstone Keep on Torment IV, beat Baal and claim the Liquid Rainbow.
- Pick a calm moment. Empty your bags, open the portal in the open world and walk in right away.
- Clear everything. Hit every cloud, jar and chest, then finish with Neigh'relle for the title.
- Keep your eyes open afterwards. Jump into every pop-up portal while you farm Helltides and World Bosses, and hope for the Cornerstone.
Whimsyshire takes one rank of season progress and a bit of luck after that. You can push the season yourself with the route above, or play it with a booster for the hours you need and get to the rainbow sooner.
FAQ
Use a Liquid Rainbow. It opens a rainbow portal named Whimsyshire next to you. Your first one is a Season Rank V reward; extra trips come from luck, mostly from the Cornerstone of the World pop-up.
One is guaranteed on Season Rank V. You finish that rank by clearing the Worldstone Keep Waking Nightmare on Torment IV and beating Baal, then you claim the reward on the Season Rank screen. Other sources are unconfirmed, but the Cornerstone of the World pop-up can open a free Whimsyshire portal.
A small Waking Nightmare that pops up in the open world in Season 15, named after a secret from Diablo: Hellfire. Inside you attune with a stone, and players report Treasure Goblins, a free Whimsyshire portal or the Forgotten Monk as outcomes.
No reliable farm is known. Pop-ups appear while you play the open world, so farm Helltides and World Bosses you need anyway and step into every pop-up portal you see. Claims that Azmodan brings more Cornerstones rest on a few lucky streaks.
Players found it blocked in the Pit, the Tower, the Kurast Undercity and Nightmare Dungeons. It works almost anywhere else in the open world and in normal dungeons.
Beating Neigh'relle at the end of the Den of Whimsy unlocks the Fancy Pants title. The map before it drops runes, Soul Splinters, materials and gold, but no guaranteed Mythic.
As far as anyone knows, nothing beyond a joke: socketed into jewellery, it makes your chat say "Chat Gem Activated". Theories that it opens another secret are unproven.
