What changed

  1. 1.60.1.70790

The raid list is re-ranked on the raid sim of November 6, which re-ran 15 of our 20 specs on new gear: Beast Mastery Hunter rises from B to A, while Enhancement Shaman falls from S to A and Subtlety Rogue from A to B. Survival Hunter still leads, Retribution Paladin is second.

Most re-run specs gained a few DPS, so the middle of the field rose from 899 to 914.5 and Enhancement slips 6 DPS under the S line although it gained 7. Beast Mastery gained 74 DPS with the same talents, almost all from its pet in a newer sim run, so we treat that jump as a change in the model until a second sim backs it. The sim is still a model, and no raid opens before December 9.

  2. 1.60.1.70790

The raid list is re-ranked on the raid sim of November 4, the first board that plays the new Rogue, Warrior and Enhancement trees: Enhancement Shaman rises from A to S, Subtlety Rogue from B to A and Elemental Shaman from C to B, while Fury Warrior falls from S to A and Arms Warrior and Beast Mastery Hunter from A to B. Survival Hunter still leads, Retribution Paladin is second.

The sim is still a model: every record of that board was made before the servers opened on November 4, one fixed build per spec on a boss that stands still. No raid has been played at 60, the raids open on December 9.

World PvP: Demonology Warlock falls from A to B, now that both world lists we count grade it B. Subtlety and Assassination Rogue and Elemental Shaman keep their world tiers, which the lists now match. No other PvP tier moves.

  3. 1.60.1.70753

The raid list is re-ranked on the raid sim of November 3, the first full board after the launch class changes: Retribution Paladin rises from A to S, Demonology Warlock falls from S to A, Affliction Warlock and Shadow Priest from A to B and Frost Mage from B to C. Survival Hunter leads, Retribution is second.

That sim does not play the Rogue rework and the new Warrior and Enhancement trees yet. Fury Warrior stays in S and Arms in A although the sim has them lower, Enhancement Shaman stays in A although the sim has it just over the S line, and the Rogues stay in B, all marked provisional.

The PvP reasons name the rest of the launch kit (Quick Getaway, Death Mark, Shank, one trap cooldown for Hunters, diminishing returns on roots from procs, Lightning Mastery), no PvP tier moves. No big tuning is planned before the raids open on December 9, only fixes for bugs and serious outliers, then a larger pass once enough players are past level 30, a plan, not a promise.

  4. 1.60.1.70707

The launch changes of November 2 bring the class pass: more damage for every class, a new Retribution tree, Berserk, Frost Blast and Lava Burst removed, Wild Growth with a 3 sec cast, a 30% backlash on Shadow Word: Death and Warlock pets with far less health. The PvP list moves ten tiers on these changes and the lists of late October, the raid list waits for a raid sim on the new numbers.

PvP: Retribution Paladin and Arms Warrior rise from C to B overall, Fury Warrior from D to C, Shadow Priest from B to A and Fire Mage from C to B. Restoration Druid falls from S to A in battlegrounds. In world PvP Feral Druid falls from S to A, Holy Paladin from B to C and Discipline Priest from A to B, while Retribution rises from D to C. LFCarry's PvP board now hands every spec its class result from the Forever Open, so it no longer counts for a spec.

No raid, dungeon, tank or healer tier moves. On November 3 the raid sim was re-running its specs on the notes, so its column stays at October 23. Tank threat goes up for launch, Defensive Stance 80%, Bear Form 115% and Righteous Fury 33% on all threat, and threat on one boss ranks no tank.

The last racial changes before launch are in: Ruthless gives Humans 1% crit, Dwarves get 1% hit from Artisan's Precision, Orcs lose Savage and get Command back (5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage) with Blood Fury every 2 min, Troll Berserking lasts 15 sec, Undead Touch of the Grave can trigger every 15 sec, Tauren Endurance is health only and Skyborne Wind Blessed gives 2% haste.

One race pick moves: the best Horde race for Hunters is now the Orc (was Troll), because Command adds 5% pet damage all the time and Blood Fury comes every 2 min, while the Troll bonus only works against Beasts. Every other pick stays: in the race sims of November 2 (launch client, one fixed build per spec) the races of a class sit within 2% of each other for most specs, too close to override picks that rest on PvP, leveling and survival racials.

No tier moves on the leveling, solo and Hardcore lists, and the profession picks stay. Rogues get two Energy tools, from level 18 the first Energy attack after a rest costs 10 less and from 24 a cheap off-hand strike gives Energy back, Warlock pets get 2 Health per point of your Stamina (was 7.5), and Feral and Hunter damage goes up, but nobody has leveled or played Hardcore with the launch numbers yet.

  5. 1.60.1.70532

The beta closed on October 23 at level 30, and the server hotfixes up to its last day are counted in. There is no level 60 raid or PvP test yet, so every tier for 60 still rests on the class kit.

Champion of the Light is back at 20/40/60% of your Intellect as spell damage, the cut to 10/20/30% of October 16 was undone. It sits behind 25 points in Retribution, so it counts from level 35, or from 30 with the Legacy perk Talented at rank 5. Paladins learn Righteous Fury at level 10 (was 16), and Hunter's Mark rank 4 at level 58 gives 143 ranged attack power (was 71).

Frost Mages lose Piercing Ice, and Elemental Precision has 3 ranks for 6% hit. Winter's Chill now stacks only from Frostbolt, Frost Blast and Ice Lance with Fingers of Frost, and each stack makes your next Cone of Cold 5% stronger and adds 7% of your spell damage to it. Ice Barrier adds 3% Frost damage for a minute and 3% more while the shield holds, Frost Warding makes it absorb 10 or 20% more, and Frost Blast scales with 27.1% of spell power (was 34.3%).

Amplify Curse makes Curse of Exhaustion 20% stronger (was 50%), Curse of Weakness and Bane of Agony keep their 50%. Lava Burst rank 3 gets a flat 20% bonus on a target with Flame Shock, it no longer grows with your level. Holy Fire rank 1 hits for 53–65, a little less than before.

No tier moves on the leveling, solo and Hardcore lists. Leveling was ranked at 20, and most of these changes come later (Champion of the Light from 30, Frost Blast at 24, Hunter's Mark rank 4 at 58). Righteous Fury is a tanking tool, Holy Fire rank 1 lost only a few points of damage, and nobody measured leveling or Hardcore with any of them before the beta closed. Frost Mage keeps its leveling S: Piercing Ice was a talent for level 20 and up, and Frost leveling without it was never measured.

The race and profession picks stay. In the race sims of October 23 (raid damage at 60, one fixed build per spec) the races of a class end up within 2% of each other for most specs, too close to override picks that rest on racials for PvP, leveling and survival.

  6. 1.60.1.70450

The October 16 build reworked the racials: Ruthless (2% crit) replaces Sword Specialization, Earth Fury (2% critical damage and healing) replaces Mace Specialization, Savage (1% crit) replaces Axe Specialization, Endurance gives critical damage instead of hit, Wind Blessed gives 3% haste and Eureka! is an 8 sec buff now.

Battle Shout, Trueshot Aura, Moonkin Aura, Leader of the Pack and four Shaman totems reach the whole raid. Lava Burst comes at level 30 and Elemental Mastery is back at 40, Mages learn Frost Blast at 24 and Arcane Blast was rebuilt, Champion of the Light drops to 10/20/30% of your Intellect and Righteous Fury makes more threat.

Auto Shot and wands need half a second standing still before they shoot, as in early WoW, and a Crocolisk's Dismember cuts healing by 25% for 6 sec (was 50% for 10 sec). No tier moves until these changes are tested.

  7. 1.60.1.70291

Crits against players count in full again: the October 8 build fixed the bug that halved their bonus from about September 25.

Warriors and Druids get more Rage from the hits they take: Stamina gear no longer lowers it, crits and crushing blows count in full and absorbed damage still counts. Bears now have a 50% threat bonus (was 30%) and get 100% more Rage from crits (was 75%).

Penance was toned down, it paid out like a 3 sec channel instead of 2 sec. Thorns and Retribution Aura are back to their Classic base damage with 6% of spell power, Paladin tanks no longer make threat when Improved Seal of Fury or Shield Specialization gives Mana back, Entrapment roots only when a Frost Trap first goes off and Impact no longer stuns from Flamestrike's burn.

The low ranks of Wrath, Frostbolt, Fireball, Arcane Missiles, Smite, Lesser Heal, Heal, Lightning Bolt and Shadow Bolt were evened out, so every new rank is an upgrade. No tier moves until these changes are tested.

  8. 1.60.1.70235

The raid list was re-ranked on the raid sim of October 6, which now counts the beta Wrack update: Arms Warrior drops from S to A, Feral Druid rises from B to A and Retribution Paladin climbs to third. Fury Warrior and Survival Hunter lead.

Beta builds 1.60.1.70205 (October 3) and 1.60.1.70235 (October 5) changed no talents or spells, so the other lists stay as they are.

  9. 1.60.1.70205

The PvP tier list now ranks all 27 specs in four modes: overall, battlegrounds, world PvP and duels. Demonology takes the Warlock S (Soul Link is a Demonology talent), Subtlety the Rogue S, Frost replaces Arcane as the Mage pick, Arms drops to C and Beast Mastery joins at A.

Dungeons, raids, tanks and healers rebuilt the same way: every damage spec for dungeons and raids, the raid sim of October 3 as its own column, Fury rises to A in dungeons, Survival (S) and Combat (A) join the raid list, Beast Mastery drops to A there, and Restoration Druid moves to A overall.

Every class list now names the best spec of every class and answers it in the FAQ, and links the guides and tools of its topic.

The class overview now names the best pick for every goal, has a class finder and a short verdict for every class. The best race list has one section per class with the racials of each pick and every race and class combination, the six new ones marked.

The best race list now shows the picks for Mage, Paladin, Priest and Shaman as well.

Changes we had not listed yet: on September 24 Two-Handed Weapon Specialization dropped to 2/4/6%, Arms got an 18 sec Slam cooldown and a stronger Bloodthrill, two Elemental talents swapped rows and Ignite stopped double dipping on damage bonuses. The class deep dives of September 30 added healing reduction on a Crocolisk pet and Shadow Word: Death at 32, and on October 1 Protection Warrior talents moved up as PvP tools.

Crits against players gave only half their bonus from about September 25. A developer called it a bug, the October 1 notes do not list a fix yet. The client of October 3 brings no class changes.

  10. 1.60.1.70170

The October 1 build raises the beta cap to 30. Every ranking here is still the level 20 one. Tiers move only once the classes are tested at 30.

Warriors get 100% more Rage from critical hits with basic attacks, which takes away the main reason for their C in leveling. Fury was reworked: Whirlwind always hits with both weapons, Bloodthirst scales with 45% of attack power (was 35%) and Berserker Rage arrives at level 30. Arms stays C until it is tested.

Druids lose Tiger's Fury and King of the Jungle, Shifting Power turns Mana into Energy in Cat Form instead. Bears get 75% more Rage from crits, Primal Bite makes about twice the threat and every form is immune to new Disarms.

Holy Shield blocks more (30%, was 20%), Redoubt less (up to 20%, was 30%), and Champion of the Light turns less Intellect into spell damage (up to 60%, was 100%). Protection and Retribution keep their tiers.

Smaller changes: Hot Streak is now called Heating Up and Combustion has 3 charges again, Hellfire can crit, Soul Harvest now gives its Mana regeneration, Hunter and Warlock pets have Aggressive mode back, and Eureka! no longer helps periodic effects. No tier moves.

  11. 1.60.1.70009

The September 24 build reworked the Paladin: Holy Strike hits harder at every rank and has a 10 sec cooldown for everyone, Vengeance stacks up to 3 times, Crusade and Improved Holy Strike are gone. Retribution stays S, Vengeance only matters from level 30.

Wrath deals about 50% more base damage. Balance stays at D until it is tested in the beta.

Wands no longer gain damage from spell power, Eureka! saves 10% for every class and Mangle is now called Primal Bite. No tier moves.

  12. 1.60.1.69977

First version of every tier list, ranked for the level 20 beta.

  13. 1.60.1.69977

Weekly client update with stability fixes, no class balance changes.

  14. 1.60.1

Blizzard announced eight fixes for the next build, among them Vengeance no longer triggering from periodic crits, which boosted Retribution Paladins while leveling.

  15. 1.60.1

The first week of beta play: Retribution Paladin and Beast Mastery Hunter lead leveling, Arms Warrior, Combat Rogue, Shadow Priest, Enhancement Shaman and Balance Druid trail behind.

  16. 1.60.1

Beta start: hit and crit merge into one stat per type, every tree gets a capstone at 16 points, Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, Improved Mark of the Wild and Improved Battle Shout become baseline.

FAQ

Which WoW Forever tier lists are there?

Leveling Class Tier List, Dungeon Class Tier List, Raid DPS Tier List, PvP Tier List, Tank and Healer Tier List and Best Class for Solo and Hardcore, plus the overview of every class, the best professions and the best race for every class.

What is the best class in WoW Forever right now?

Beast Mastery Hunter scores best across all our lists. It depends on the goal though: Retribution Paladin, Beast Mastery Hunter and Frost Mage lead leveling, Survival Hunter and Retribution Paladin lead raids and Demonology Warlock lead PvP.

Which class levels the fastest?

Retribution Paladin, Beast Mastery Hunter and Frost Mage. Heavy armor, self heals and Seal damage make it the fastest leveler of the first beta week. Holy Strike hits harder since the September 24 build. Whatever class you pick, the road to 60 is long, and our WoW Forever boost services can take the leveling off your hands.

What is the best PvE class?

In dungeons Beast Mastery Hunter, Protection Paladin, Discipline Priest, Enhancement Shaman and Marksmanship Hunter, in raids Survival Hunter and Retribution Paladin. Survival stays in S: first of our 20 damage specs in the raid sim of November 6 with 1264 from a record of November 4 that the sim did not re-run, still far ahead of everyone else. That number weaves Auto Shots between melee hits, and pure melee did 921 on November 3, just above the middle of the field. Low confidence, because one sim backs it and no level 60 raid has been tested.

What is the best tank in WoW Forever?

Protection Paladin. The best tank in WoW Forever right now, in dungeons and raids. Every public list puts Protection Paladin first. Plate, Holy Shield, Consecration and Lay on Hands cover trash packs and long boss fights alike. The launch changes of November 2 raise threat for every tank: Righteous Fury adds 33% to all threat plus 90% on Holy damage, a Warrior's Defensive Stance 80% and Bear Form 115%. In the raid sim of November 3 it makes 1517 threat per second on one boss, behind the bear (2543) and Protection Warrior (1919). Threat on one boss is not survival and says nothing about holding a pack, so the order of the tanks stays.

What is the best healer in WoW Forever?

Discipline Priest. Discipline sits at the top of every list, for dungeons and raids. Blizzard calls the Priest the most versatile healer, and Power Infusion boosts a caster on top. Shields and Penance cover spike damage and steady raid damage. Penance was toned down on October 8, it had paid out like a 3 sec channel instead of 2 sec.

What is the best PvP class?

Demonology Warlock. Soul Link sends 30% of the damage you take to your demon and adds 3% damage. It sits on the 20 point row, so a Demonology Warlock has it at level 30. With Fear, Death Coil, a Felhunter's Spell Lock or a Succubus' Seduction you control most fights and take far less damage while you do it. The launch changes of November 2 give Warlock pets 2 Health per point of your Stamina (was 7.5), so the demon that soaks your Soul Link damage has far less health, and there are no PvP results with the build yet. Warlocks won the Forever Open at level 30: the grand final was Warlockguy against Neepzen, both Demonology Warlocks with Soul Link, and Warlocks won 60% of qualifier duels, second only to Paladins. LePrestore grades Demonology S for duels at level 30 and WoW Forever Info for level 60, Mobalytics grades Warlocks as a class S, and on the overall boards ConquestCapped has it in S, wowforevertierlist and RankedBoost in B. The overall boards split, but the only results that name the spec, the two Demonology finalists, back it, so it stays the only S overall. In the open world it falls from A to B, both world lists grade it B, LePrestore for level 30 and WoW Forever DB for level 60.

What is the best class for beginners?

Beast Mastery Hunter and Retribution Paladin. The pet tanks while you learn your rotation from range.

What is the best profession?

For gold Alchemy and Herbalism. Flasks and elixirs sell every raid week, with Herbalism the top earning pair.

How often is this tier list updated?

With every patch. This version is checked against the live client 1.60.1.70790, the beta stopped at level 30. No big tuning is planned before the raids open on December 9, only fixes for bugs and serious outliers, then a larger pass once enough players are past level 30, a plan, not a promise. We rank again for level 60 as level 60 results come in.
