WoW Forever Addon Restrictions

Yes, addons are allowed in WoW Forever, but combat addons lost what they used to read. Forever took the addon rules of Midnight: addons may change how the interface looks and where things sit, but they cannot read live combat numbers or make decisions for you. Here is what is hidden, what stays readable and which addons that hits.

What Blizzard said

  • At the developer Q&A of September 17: Forever takes the modern addon approach with the restrictions of Midnight. Addons that customise the interface stay allowed.

    Announced
  • In an interview: addons that do the math for you will not be available in Forever.

    Announced
  • The add-on policy Blizzard published for World of Warcraft says every add-on must be free of charge: no premium versions with paid features, no fee for the download and no fee for services tied to an add-on. We found no separate statement from Blizzard about paid add-ons in Forever. Blizzard forums: UI Add-On Development Policy

What the rules mean for macros

Readable in combat

  • Unit name, class and level
  • Cast bars and what is being cast
  • Whether you have aggro (threat state)
  • Your own maximum health and power

Beta

Hidden from addons

  • Current health and power, also out of combat
  • Exact threat numbers in combat
  • Maximum health and power of other units
  • Auras and cooldowns for addon code in combat
  • The combat log: addons cannot listen to it at all

Beta

When the rules kick in

The client knows states in which addons may do less: in combat, in a boss encounter, in challenges, in PvP matches, on certain maps and in chat.

What this hits

These addons cannot work the way they did in Retail or Classic:

What keeps working

Boss mods, nameplates, bags, maps and quest helpers, full UI suites. They work with what stays readable.

Fixed and still open

  • Fixed with build 70009 (September 24): settings that were not saved and secure snippets for click casting and bars.

    Beta
  • Open on September 26: a crash when opening an addon dropdown in the settings, and a report about bar paging by macro conditions.

FAQ

Are combat addons banned in WoW Forever?

Addons cannot read the combat log, and current health, power and exact threat numbers are hidden from them. Boss mods, nameplates and interface addons still run, because they work with what stays readable.

Does Details work in WoW Forever?

Yes, Details has a Forever version since October 6. Like every meter in Forever it reads Blizzard's own damage meter, because the combat log is closed to addons.

Can addons still show threat in WoW Forever?

They can show whether you have aggro, because the threat state stays readable. Exact threat numbers are hidden in combat. Nameplate threat colors and the built-in Aggro Display are the tools for tanks.

Will WeakAuras come back to WoW Forever?

Nothing says so. The WeakAuras team spoke about Midnight, not about Forever, and there is no Forever version. The forks ForeverAuras and M33kAuras run inside the same rules.

Are paid addons allowed in WoW Forever?

Blizzard's published add-on policy says no. Every add-on must be free of charge, with no premium versions, no fee for the download and no fee for services tied to an add-on. That policy covers World of Warcraft in general. We found no separate statement from Blizzard about paid add-ons in Forever, and players are still arguing about how the policy applies to paid leveling guides. We do not call any named addon a violation. The Zygor Guides and RestedXP pages say what each of them sells.

As of Oct 24, 2026. Every addon
