WoW Forever Addons

Forever runs Blizzard's modern interface, so Retail addons that were ported for Midnight come over after a small update, and Classic Era addons do not simply load. Here are 139 addons with their Forever status and date, the tools the game already has and the rules that decide what works.

The short answer

  • Forever uses Blizzard's modern addon rules, the same as Midnight. Addons that change the interface stay allowed, addons that calculate from live combat numbers do not.

  • An addon needs a Forever version: interface 16001 or a file ending in _Camelot.toc. Classic Era addons do not simply load.

  • Edit Mode, a damage meter, a Cooldown Manager and a swing timer are built in.

FAQ

Do addons work in WoW Forever?

Yes, most interface and quality of life addons do, once they have a Forever version. Forever uses Blizzard's modern addon rules, the same as Midnight: addons that change the interface stay allowed, addons that calculate from live combat numbers do not.

Which addons do I really need in WoW Forever?

None to start. The game has Edit Mode, a damage meter, a Cooldown Manager and a swing timer built in. Most players add a boss mod (DBM or BigWigs) for dungeons and raids, a bag addon, Auctionator and a quest helper such as Questie.

Which addons no longer work in WoW Forever?

WeakAuras has no Forever version. Meters that read the combat log, like Skada and Recount, cannot work that way anymore, and threat meters lose their exact numbers in combat. Addons made for Classic Era need a rewrite for the modern interface.

Where is the addon folder of WoW Forever?

In the beta it is World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns. The folder name for the launch on November 4 is not confirmed yet. The install page has the details.

Is there a WeakAuras for WoW Forever?

Not from the WeakAuras team. ForeverAuras and M33kAuras are forks that run inside the same rules, and the built-in Cooldown Manager covers simple cooldown tracking for some classes.

Does WoW Forever have a built-in damage meter?

Yes. Switch it on under Options, Advanced Options, Damage Meter and place its windows in Edit Mode. It shows damage, healing and actions.
