Overview
Inside Ruins of Lordaeron
Above the Undercity the old capital still belongs to the dead. Scourge remnants hold the streets, the graveyard and the overlook, and a necromancer named Rath'mael hides them in an unholy fog. The Forsaken want their old home back, while Alliance players come for the last soldiers of Lordaeron, a lost crest of the kingdom and a family torn apart when the city fell. It plays like an open city ruin, one floor of dark streets with walkways and towers above, and the route bends through it like a U.
There are six bosses and a rare, and you can kill them in any order. Witherfang and The Baron wait in King's Alley, Viktor the Vile is a hidden event in Lordamere Overlook, The Abandoned rises from a statue at Market Street, Bjork patrols past it and Rath'mael ends the run in the graveyard. The trash is the real danger: dense packs of elite undead and fast spider patrols, and most CC does little against undead at this level.
Before Blizzard halved the extra experience of dungeon quests on October 1, one run with the turn-ins took a fresh character from 16 to 18. The turn-ins pay less now and the kills about 20% more since October 8, and the quest rewards and the blue boss drops make it worth a few runs either way.
Level 15–20 is the range the dungeon is tuned for, not a minimum entry level. Blizzard announced this range for Forever.
Location
Where is Ruins of Lordaeron? Entrance and how to get there
The portal sits in the front courtyard of the ruins above the Undercity, at about 63.1, 67.5 on the Tirisfal map (72.4, 11.5 if your map shows the Undercity). Come in through the main gate from the Brill road and stay on the surface instead of taking the elevators down. The portal is on the left right after the gate, behind an iron portcullis up a few stairs.
Now you can move the map.
No spawn points on the map for this one.
- 1Take the boat from Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine, then the boat to Menethil Harbor. Stay on board, it continues to Southshore in Hillsbrad.
- 2Grab the Southshore flight path and follow the road north past Hillsbrad Fields and around Dalaran.
- 3Swim north through Lordamere Lake into Tirisfal and follow the road to the ruins.
- 4Skyborne characters can take the portal to Dalaran in the Stormwind Mage Tower and start the walk from there.
- 5The ruins are Horde ground. You get flagged for PvP on the way to the portal, even on PvE realms.
- 1Fly to the Undercity. The bat handler stands in the ruins behind the throne room, so walk around the throne room to the front courtyard.
- 2From Brill, follow the road south to the city gate. Deathguard Kristof stands on this road at about 65.2, 60.2, take The Wrath of Rath'mael on the way.
- 3Orcs and trolls take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Tirisfal. Tauren travel to Orgrimmar first.

Group Finder
We have not found a meeting stone for this dungeon yet. The Group Finder lists it from level 15, and a warlock summon at the portal saves the Alliance the long trip north.
After a wipe
The spirit healer stands right outside the portal, so a wipe costs little time. If your ghost gets stuck behind the portal with no way back to the graveyard, jump off a ledge to reset it.
Map and route
The route through the dungeon
4 areas, one path. Tap a stop to see what waits there.

Area 1 of 4
King's Alley
From the courtyard take the ramp and stairs down to the east. Spider packs fill King's Alley, some of them patrol fast, and Witherfang walks among them. Skip the web-covered gate by going through the window on the right. Past three Ghostly Citizens a passage to the west holds two skeleton packs and The Baron. Ghostly Citizens cast Veil of Shadow, which cuts the healing on their target for 15 seconds.
Area 2 of 4
Lordamere Overlook
Take the shortcut: climb the broken pillar behind The Baron and jump the low wall into Lordamere Overlook. Dismiss pets first, they cannot follow. Flesh Golems patrol the overlook. The burned house of Viktor the Vile is in the south-west corner, close to the graveyard.
Area 3 of 4
Market Street
The statue with glowing eyes at the entrance from Lordamere Overlook starts The Abandoned. Leave his courtyard by the narrow staircase, turn right and jump through the large window to reach Bjork's patrol. Gargoyles sit on the walkways and towers above, reached by spiral stairs inside the pillars.

Area 4 of 4
Lordaeron Graveyard
The graveyard behind an iron fence, with a summoning circle in the middle. Rath'mael stands here, and Edward Heartweaver's body lies nearby for A Frightened Request and Remember That I Love You. There is no shortcut out, you walk back through the ruins.

The Baron is an abomination in a side passage west of King's Alley, behind two skeleton packs. He drops the Head of the Baron for the Alliance and the Abominable Head that starts the Horde chain Unending Torment.
AbilitiesBeta
Tactics
- Knockout hits the tank very hard, knocks him back and stuns him for 6 seconds, and the boss turns on someone else. Keep the tank at full health before every Knockout and taunt back the moment the stun ends, or let a second tank pick him up.
- Trample hits everyone in melee range. Tank him with your back to a wall so Knockout cannot throw you far, and keep the ranged spread out so he does not run into the group.
- Rotate stuns on him. Every stun is a few seconds without Knockout or Trample.
Tank
Back to a wall, full health before each Knockout, taunt right after the stun.
Healer
Keep the tank topped up at all times. Knockout is the big spike, a tank below full can die to it.
Watch out for: Knockout on a tank who is not at full health.
Notable loot
Meathook Slicer · One-Hand
Abomination Bones · Chest
Leftover Abomination Skin · Chest

Witherfang is a big spider that patrols King's Alley with two smaller spiders. He drops the Highly Toxic Strain for The New Plague.
AbilitiesBeta
- Leech Poison · Drains health from an enemy every 5 sec. over 40 sec., transferring it to the caster.
Tactics
- Clear the spider packs along his path first. A ranged pull from a distance can bring him in without his patrol.
- Most groups kill the two small spiders first, others go straight for Witherfang. Call it before the pull.
- Leech Poison drains health from its target for 40 seconds and heals him. Remove it from the tank if you can.
- Stuns make the fight easier.
Tank
Pick up both small spiders as well so they do not run to the healer.
Healer
Leech Poison is steady damage on the tank. Cleanse it or heal through it.
Damage
Follow the kill order and use your stuns on Witherfang.
Watch out for: A second spider pack joining the fight while he patrols.
Notable loot
Atrophic Girdle · Waist
Witherbite Bracers · Wrist
Segmented Spider Leg · Two-Hand

The Abandoned is an event boss at the entrance of Market Street, coming from Lordamere Overlook. Walk up to the statue with glowing eyes, hold off three waves of undead, and he leaps out of the statue as the fourth wave.
AbilitiesBeta
- Frost Nova · Inflicts Frost damage to nearby enemies, immobilizing them for up to 8 sec.
- Chilled
- Life Drain · Drains health, transferring it to the caster.
Tactics
- Start at full health and mana. The waves come one after another with no time to drink.
- Frost Nova roots everyone near him. Ranged and healers keep some distance so they can still move.
- Life Drain has a 2 second cast. Stun or interrupt it.
- Melee who hit him get Chilled, which slows their movement and attacks.
Tank
Gather each wave at the statue and keep it off the healer.
Healer
Stand out of Frost Nova range and save mana for the boss wave.
Damage
Kill the waves fast, then interrupt Life Drain on the boss.
Watch out for: Starting the statue with low mana.
Notable loot
Rotmender's Leggings · Legs
Grip of Fear · Hands
Scepter of the Abandoned · Main Hand

Bjork patrols beyond Market Street. Leave the courtyard of The Abandoned by the narrow staircase, turn right and jump through the large window. Reports place his patrol in different spots, so look around if he is not there.
AbilitiesBeta
- Anti-Magic Shield · Creates an anti-magic shell around you granting magic immunity for 3 sec.
- Mighty Blow · Inflicts normal damage to an enemy, knocking it back.
Tactics
- Pull him away from the ghoul packs nearby.
- Anti-Magic Shield makes him immune to magic for 3 seconds after a 2 second cast. Casters stop and wait it out.
- Mighty Blow knocks the tank back. Keep a wall behind you.
- Apart from that he is a short tank and spank.
Tank
Pull him to a cleared spot and keep your back to a wall.
Healer
An easy fight for you. Watch the tank after each knockback.
Damage
Casters pause during Anti-Magic Shield, melee keep hitting.
Watch out for: Ghoul packs joining when he is pulled near them.
Notable loot
Bonerust Leggings · Legs
Tuskwrap Belt · Waist
Corpse Chopper · Two-Hand

Viktor the Vile is a hidden event boss in the burned house in the south-west of Lordamere Overlook, close to the graveyard. Light the fire in the chimney, survive about five waves of adds with a Flesh Golem in the last one, and Viktor comes after.
AbilitiesBeta
- Leech Poison · Drains health from an enemy every 5 sec. over 40 sec., transferring it to the caster.
Tactics
- Clear the patrols around the house first. There is no break between waves, so the healer brings a mana potion.
- The tank takes every wave and Viktor himself. He hits hard.
- Leech Poison works like Witherfang's. Remove it from the tank.
- He is a Beast, so Shackle Undead and other spells that only work on undead do nothing to him.
Tank
Pick up each wave as it spawns and fight the golem away from the rest.
Healer
Pace your mana over the waves and drink a potion before Viktor if you need it.
Damage
Follow the tank's target and keep the waves off the healer.
Watch out for: The Flesh Golem in the last wave knocking the tank away from the group.
Notable loot
Vilewalkers · Feet
Bloodied Chestwraps · Chest
Vileblood Scimitar · One-Hand

Rath'mael is the necromancer behind the fog and the boss that counts for Novice Spelunker. He waits in Lordaeron Graveyard at the summoning circle behind an iron fence. He is level 20, and his loot needs level 19, the highest in the dungeon.
AbilitiesBeta
- Flamestrike · Calls down a pillar of flame, burning all enemies in a selected area and inflicting additional damage every 2 sec. for 8 sec.
- Fire Shield
Tactics
- Flamestrike is a 3 second cast that lands where the tank stood when it started. The tank moves out and keeps fighting on fresh ground, the group follows.
- Stun or interrupt Flamestrike to stop it.
- Some groups report fire damage around him from Fire Shield, so melee keep an eye on their health.
Tank
Move him out of every Flamestrike right away, always to the same side.
Healer
Heal anyone who stood in the fire and keep away from the tank's spot.
Damage
Interrupt or stun Flamestrike, then follow the tank out.
Watch out for: Standing in Flamestrike after the cast lands.
Notable loot
Mirror of Rath'mael · Shield
Rotmender's Treads · Feet
Coldspire Staff · Two-Hand
Blueprint: Fermenter · Other
Blueprint: Arcane Salvager · Other
Rare spawns1

Lordaeron Captain is a rare elite with a small chance to spawn on the west side of the ruins, by reports once the other bosses are dead. He is friendly to the Alliance, so only Horde groups can fight him.
Tactics
- A plain fight. Clear leftover packs around him first so you do not pull extra adds.
Notable loot
Haunting Blade · Two-Hand
Trash
Dangerous trash and diseases
Most wipes here start before a boss. These are the packs and effects to respect.
Spider patrols in King's Alley
Venom Lurkers, Tarantulas and Broodwidows come in packs, and some patrol fast. One pack is easy, two at once wipe groups. Pull back to ground you already cleared and keep the tank free of poison. Tarantulas Web a player in place for 10 seconds.

Skeletons and banshees
Skeletal Soldiers and Skeletal Mages stand in packs of three in front of The Baron, and Shrieking Banshees patrol King's Alley. Deafening Shriek silences a caster for 4 seconds, so stun or kill the banshee first. Dispel Frost Armor on the mages if you can. A side door near The Baron opens and lets out one more banshee.

Flesh Golems
Flesh Golems patrol Lordamere Overlook and hit very hard. Knock Away throws the tank back and loses threat, and Living Monstrosities do the same with Mighty Blow. Fight them alone, never next to another pack.

Ghoul packs
Ghouls come in packs of three or four, close to other packs, and hit hard in melee. Kill the Ragged Ghoul first. Plague Ghouls Cleave and put Ghoul Plague on their target, which slows it and cuts its damage for 30 minutes.

Stone Watchers on the walkways
The gargoyles on the upper walkways look like statues until you get close. In the fight they cast Stone Slumber: for 15 seconds they take no physical damage and heal, but cannot act. Stun them during the 1 second cast or switch to spells.

Quests
Ruins of Lordaeron quests
The dungeon has 15 quests: ten for the Horde, five of them steps of the Unending Torment chain, and five for the Alliance. The Horde picks most of them up in Tirisfal, the Undercity and Silverpine, while every Alliance quest starts inside. They are level 21–22 and can be taken from 15 or 16, so they show red at 17 even though the dungeon is fine at that level. The XP shown is the base value, dungeon quests pay a bonus on top that Blizzard cut by half on October 1.

Every boss drop and every quest reward of the dungeon. Hover an item for its stats.
All boss drops are blue and lean to mail and cloth, with one weapon from every boss. Rotmender's Raiment is a new cloth set: Rotmender's Leggings drop from The Abandoned, Rotmender's Treads from Rath'mael, and two more pieces have dropped from trash. Rath'mael also drops two campsite blueprints, the Fermenter and the Arcane Salvager. With two pieces of Rotmender's Raiment dropping from trash, the set can take several clears. If you would rather not organize each of them yourself, you can book WoW Forever dungeon clears with a booster team.
Beta drop chances come from a handful of kills and are left out until the sample is bigger.

Before you go
Before you go
- Bring tools against undeadUndead shrug off a lot of crowd control. Shackle Undead, Turn Undead and stuns are what works, and a Paladin with Exorcism does well here.
- Come at 16 or 17Level 15 works on paper, but the elite packs hit hard. Most groups report an easier run at 16 or 17.
- Pick up the Horde quests firstDeathguard Kristof is on the Brill road, Morbin Lightbane and Theodore Griffs are in the Undercity and Tabitha Heartweaver is at The Sepulcher. Collect them before you go up.
- Start events at full manaThe Abandoned and Viktor the Vile come in waves without a break. Rest before you touch the statue or the fire and bring a mana potion for the healer.
- Pull spider patrols back to cleared ground. Two packs at once is the usual wipe.
- Kill banshees first, their shriek silences your healer.
- Look for the Crest of Lordaeron on every run. It starts a quest for both factions and lies in a different spot each time.
Known beta issues
Viktor the Vile sometimes does not spawn. Since late September players report that clicking the fire in the burned house sometimes does nothing, or the waves come and Viktor never shows up. Nothing in the patch notes fixes it so far. If it happens, finish the rest of the run and try him again next time.
The Abandoned event can stall. Undead from the waves sometimes get stuck in a corridor, and the next wave waits until they are dead. Go and pull them to the statue.
FAQ
Questions players ask
What level is Ruins of Lordaeron in WoW Forever?
Blizzard tunes it for levels 15–20 and the Group Finder lists it from 15. Most groups find 16 or 17 more comfortable. The quests are level 21–22 and the last boss, Rath'mael, is level 20.
Where is the Ruins of Lordaeron entrance?
The portal is in the surface ruins above the Undercity, at about 63.1, 67.5 in Tirisfal. Go through the city gate into the front courtyard and stay up top. The portal is on the left up a few stairs.
How do Alliance players get to Ruins of Lordaeron?
Take the boats to Menethil Harbor and stay on board to Southshore, walk north past Dalaran, swim through Lordamere Lake into Tirisfal and follow the road to the ruins. Expect to get flagged for PvP in the Horde part of the ruins.
What quests are there for Ruins of Lordaeron?
There are 15. The Horde has The Wrath of Rath'mael, A Frightened Request, Light's Justice, The New Plague, the five steps of Unending Torment and Crest of Lordaeron. The Alliance has Abominable Creatures, Bloodied Insignia, Crest of Lordaeron and the two parts of Remember That I Love You, and all of them start inside.
Where do you turn in The Wrath of Rath'mael?
Back to Deathguard Kristof, who gives it, on the road from Brill to the Undercity at about 65.2, 60.2 in Tirisfal. It is a Horde quest.
Where does the Lordaeron Captain spawn?
He is a rare with a small chance to appear on the west side of the ruins, by reports only once the other bosses are dead. He is friendly to the Alliance, so only the Horde can kill him.
How many bosses are in Ruins of Lordaeron?
Six: Witherfang, The Baron, The Abandoned, Viktor the Vile, Bjork and Rath'mael, plus the rare Lordaeron Captain. You can kill them in any order, and Rath'mael counts for the Novice Spelunker achievement.
Who drops the Mirror of Rath'mael?
Rath'mael, the boss in the graveyard. He also drops Rotmender's Treads, the Coldspire Staff and two campsite blueprints. Every other boss drops three blue items, mostly mail and cloth plus a weapon.
How do you start the Crest of Lordaeron quest?
Find the crest and loot it. It lies at one of several spots: behind the door near The Baron that lets out a banshee, on the watchtower past Witherfang, on the rooftop walkways or on the wall of the small temple past Bjork. The Horde hands it to Oran Snakewrithe in the Undercity, the Alliance to Lady Dena Kennedy in Stormwind.
Why does Viktor the Vile not spawn?
It is a beta bug. Clicking the fire sometimes does nothing, or the adds come without him. Finish the run and try again next time.
How long does Ruins of Lordaeron take?
About 35–45 minutes for a group that knows the route. There is no quick exit after Rath'mael, so add the walk back through the ruins.
