The short answer

  • The Fox is new and the owls are called Birds of Prey now. There are 18 tameable families.

    Beta data
  • 13 abilities are new, among them one of its own for eight families. Cobra Reflexes is gone.

    Beta data
  • Pets scale with your stats: health from your Stamina, part of your armor, the higher of your melee or ranged critical strike chance. Expertise works for pets too.

    Confirmed
  • Ferocity raises your pet's critical strike chance even though the character sheet does not show the bonus in the beta. It is a display bug only.

    Confirmed
  • Player buffs that raise stats no longer work on pets.

    Confirmed
  • Aggressive Mode is back. You find it on the pet tab of your spellbook.

    Confirmed
  • Every pet swings at a base 2.0 seconds. Beasts that were faster in Classic bring a passive trait.

    Beta data
  • You only tame beasts up to your own level.

    Confirmed
  • Loyalty, happiness, food and training points stay as in Classic. The stable has three slots.

    FAQ

Which new hunter pet families does WoW Forever have?

The Fox. Owls are called Birds of Prey now, and eight families get a new ability. There are no exotic pets that need a talent.

Do hunter pets scale with my stats?

Yes, Blizzard confirmed it: your pet takes stats from you, among them health from your Stamina, part of your armor and the higher of your melee or ranged critical strike chance. Expertise works for pets too.

How many pets can a hunter keep?

Three slots in the beta: one active and two in the stable. Keep one slot free for learning new ranks.

Can I tame a beast above my level?

No. Since the hotfix of September 24 you only tame beasts up to your own level.

Do all pets attack at the same speed?

The base speed is 2.0 seconds now. Beasts that were faster or slower in Classic come with a passive trait that makes up the difference.

    As of Oct 17, 2026.

    What changed

    Updated

    • New: every tameable beast by zone, by family and with its level. Each beast opens its pet card, each zone opens on the pet map.

    • Pets now take the higher of your melee or ranged critical strike chance, and Expertise works for them too.

    • Ferocity works even though the character sheet does not show your pet's extra crit in the beta.
