Priest

Heal your group, shield yourself, or wear enemies down with Shadow.

You are a cloth caster who can heal a whole group, shield allies before damage lands, or deal steady Shadow damage over time. While leveling you fight with a wand, Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Blast, and you can always heal yourself. Groups look for Priests for healing, Power Word: Fortitude and Dispel Magic.

The three specs

Best to level: ShadowShadow is the smoothest solo spec: your damage over time and wand kill safely, Mind Flay slows from about level 20 and Shadowform halves your Shadow mana costs at 40. Also good: Discipline.

Discipline

HealerDamage

You stop damage before it lands with Power Word: Shield, and from level 30 Penance heals an ally or hits an enemy. Alone you fight with Shadow Word: Pain, Smite and your wand, which makes Discipline a very safe spec to level.

Holy

Healer

You heal damage after it lands with Renew, Heal, Flash Heal and group heals like Prayer of Healing and, from level 40, Prayer of Mending. It is the Priest's best group healer and a friendly first healer, but solo leveling is slow.

Shadow

Damage

You wear enemies down with Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Blast, then add Mind Flay from about level 20. Shadowform at 40 makes your Shadow spells stronger and half as expensive, but you cannot heal while you are in it.

What is new for the Priest in Forever

Seen in the beta, unless it says otherwise.

  • Devouring Plague and Fear Ward are no longer race spells. Every Priest learns both at level 20.

  • Each race gets two race-only Priest spells from class quests at 10 and 20, like Chastise for Dwarves or Contingency Plan for Gnomes.

  • Discipline gets Penance, a short channel that heals an ally or hits an enemy, and Divine Aegis shields on your critical heals. Divine Spirit is now a trained spell instead of a talent.

    Not tested yet
  • Holy gains Binding Heal, which heals you and your target at once, and Prayer of Mending, a heal that jumps from player to player.

    Not tested yet
  • Shadow gets Shadow Word: Death at 32 to finish low enemies, and Shadowform now halves the mana cost of your Shadow spells. Shadow Weaving only boosts your own damage now.

    Not tested yet
  • Healing Power now also adds a third as much spell damage, and caster weapons carry spell power, so healing gear still helps while you quest.
