No self heal and tight Rage, better with a healer friend.Crits against players count in full again: the October 8 build fixed the bug that halved their bonus from about September 25.
Warriors and Druids get more Rage from the hits they take: Stamina gear no longer lowers it, crits and crushing blows count in full and absorbed damage still counts. Bears now have a 50% threat bonus (was 30%) and get 100% more Rage from crits (was 75%).
Penance was toned down, it paid out like a 3 sec channel instead of 2 sec. Thorns and Retribution Aura are back to their Classic base damage with 6% of spell power, Paladin tanks no longer make threat when Improved Seal of Fury or Shield Specialization gives Mana back, Entrapment roots only when a Frost Trap first goes off and Impact no longer stuns from Flamestrike's burn.
The low ranks of Wrath, Frostbolt, Fireball, Arcane Missiles, Smite, Lesser Heal, Heal, Lightning Bolt and Shadow Bolt were evened out, so every new rank is an upgrade. No tier moves until these changes are tested.
We rank by what the beta shows right now: levels played, example fights and the talents of every spec. With every build and patch we check the list again, and arrows then show who moved up or down.
There is no single best class. Retribution Paladin, Beast Mastery Hunter and Frost Mage lead leveling, Fury Warrior and Survival Hunter lead raids and Subtlety Rogue, Discipline Priest and Demonology Warlock lead PvP.
Beast Mastery Hunter and Retribution Paladin. The pet tanks while you learn your rotation from range.
Retribution Paladin, Beast Mastery Hunter and Frost Mage. Heavy armor, self heals and Seal damage make it the fastest leveler of the first beta week. Holy Strike hits harder since the September 24 build.
In dungeons Combat Rogue, Beast Mastery Hunter, Protection Paladin and Discipline Priest, in raids Fury Warrior and Survival Hunter. Fury tops the raid sim again on October 6, clearly ahead of Survival. The sim already counts the October 1 rework. Rage still depends on hits and crits, and the Rage fixes of October 8 came after this sim, so expect the number to move.
Protection Paladin. The best tank in WoW Forever right now, in dungeons and raids. Every public list puts Protection Paladin first. Plate, Holy Shield, Consecration and Lay on Hands cover trash packs and long boss fights alike.
Discipline Priest and Holy Paladin. Discipline sits at or near the top of every list, for dungeons and raids. Blizzard calls the Priest the most versatile healer, and Power Infusion boosts a caster on top. Shields and Penance cover spike damage and steady raid damage. Penance was toned down on October 8, it had paid out like a 3 sec channel instead of 2 sec.
Subtlety Rogue, Discipline Priest and Demonology Warlock. Subtlety wins duels before the other side can act: Premeditation adds combo points before the opener, Preparation resets your Rogue cooldowns, Vanish included, and a new talent lets you Ambush without Stealth. Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot and Blind chain the control. Most public lists put it in S for level 60, the newer duel lists for level 30 rate it lower, because Blind only comes at level 34. In a battleground it is weaker, because healers and area damage keep pulling you out of Stealth.
Beast Mastery Hunter. The pet eats the pull instead of you, the safest first Hardcore character.
Each list grades something else: how leveling feels in the beta, damage at 60 or the design of the talents. That is why we split our lists into leveling, dungeons, raids and PvP.
With every beta build and every patch. This version is for Beta build 1.60.1, level cap 30, ranked at level 20. We rank again for level 30 once the classes are tested there, and at the November 4 launch we rank everything again for level 60.
