Warrior dungeon specs

Fury Warrior

DamageA

Medium confidenceSim 965 · 76% of the top valuePublic lists: AAA for the spec

The October 1 rework made Fury a pack spec: Whirlwind always hits with both weapons, Bloodthirst scales with 45% of attack power, and Gore Drinker heals you a little after each Enrage or Bloodthirst. Both public lists from late October keep it in A. Death Wish raises the damage you take, so watch your health on big pulls.

  • Strong
  • Whirlwind with both weapons hits whole packs
  • Battle Shout for the group
  • Weak
  • Death Wish raises the damage you take
  • Needs a tank who holds threat on packs

Talent build: Dual-wield Fury dungeons

Fight with two weapons and take Furious Precision so your off-hand misses less. Improved Whirlwind brings Whirlwind back sooner and makes it hit harder, and Flurry speeds up swings after melee crits.

Protection Warrior

TanksA

Medium confidencePublic lists: SAA for the spec

Protection Warrior is the other strong tank. Crits from basic attacks give 100% more Rage since October 1, the hits you take give more Rage since October 8, and Sunder Armor makes more threat from attack power since September 24. The launch changes of November 2 raise the threat bonus of Defensive Stance to 80% (was 30%). Warriors lack tools to recover from taking too much damage, so your healer has to keep up.

  • Strong
  • More Rage from crits and from hits you take
  • Shield Wall and Last Stand for big pulls
  • Weak
  • Little self healing
  • The armor talent was removed on October 1

Talent build: Deep Protection tank

Tank with a shield using Defiance to raise Defensive Stance threat and Shield Slam for high threat hits. Focused Rage lowers offensive costs, while Last Stand gives temporary health.

Arms Warrior

DamageA

Medium confidenceB → ASim 850 · 67% of the top valuePublic lists: BAA for the spec

Arms rises from B to A: both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in A, and that is before Mortal Strike at level 40. Sweeping Strikes and Whirlwind cover packs, and crits from basic attacks give 100% more Rage since October 1. Arms players in the beta still said Rage ran short on long pulls.

  • Strong
  • Sweeping Strikes and Whirlwind hit several targets
  • Battle Shout for the whole group
  • Weak
  • Rage runs short on long pulls
  • Mortal Strike only from level 40

Talent build: Two-hander Arms dungeons

Keep Rend on your target so Bloodthrill can trigger Overpower. Sweeping Strikes adds damage to a second enemy, and Improved Execute lowers your finishing cost.

Paladin dungeon specs

Protection Paladin

TanksS

Medium confidencePublic lists: SSS for the spec

Protection Paladin is the top tank in every public list. Holy Shield blocks 30% of attacks, and Consecration holds a whole pack. Righteous Fury now adds 33% to all your threat and 90% more to your Holy damage, you learn it at level 10, and Reckoning stores up to 4 extra swings again.

  • Strong
  • Consecration holds a whole pack
  • Holy Shield blocks 30%
  • Weak
  • Less Mana back from Shield Specialization since October 16
  • Holy Shield deals less damage per block

Talent build: Protection dungeon tank

Tank with Holy Shield for extra blocks and threat. Shield Specialization restores mana on blocks, while Iron Creed boosts Holy Strike threat and adds damage reduction while Righteous Fury is active.

Holy Paladin

HealersA

Low confidencePublic lists: ABB for the spec

Holy Paladin heals from plate, and Holy Shock comes at level 30. Both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in B. We keep A with low confidence for level 60: Cleanse removes a poison, a disease and a magic effect with one spell, and it only comes at level 42, so the beta never showed it.

  • Strong
  • Cleanse removes poison, disease and magic from level 42
  • Plate and Divine Shield
  • Weak
  • Little area healing on big pulls
  • Holy Shock only from level 30

Talent build: Holy party healer

Use Light's Vigil with Holy Shock to heal the target's party. Illumination returns mana from critical heals, while Infusion of Light speeds up your next Holy Light after Holy Shock or Flash of Light crits.

Retribution Paladin

DamageB

Low confidenceSim 1061 · 84% of the top valuePublic lists: ABB for the spec

Retribution brings plate, self heals and a Blessing for the group. Its tree is new since launch: Champion of the Light turns up to 60% of your Intellect into spell damage over 5 ranks, Conviction gives 2/4/6% crit to all spells and attacks, Vengeance stacks up to 5 times, and Unsealed Wrath, the last talent of the tree, lets your stored Seal go off again when you switch Seals. It has no interrupt, only Hammer of Justice. Both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in B, and so do we.

  • Strong
  • Blessings for the group and an off heal in a pinch
  • Plate and Divine Shield forgive mistakes
  • Weak
  • No interrupt
  • Damage cut twice since the beta started

Talent build: Two-hander dungeon damage

Unsealed Wrath stores up to 3 copies of your Seal on your swings, and each one gets its normal chance to trigger when you hit with a different Seal. Champion of the Light turns Intellect into spell damage and speeds up Hammer of Wrath.

Hunter dungeon specs

Beast Mastery Hunter

DamageS

Medium confidenceSim 966 · 76% of the top valuePublic lists: SSS for the spec

Your pet takes hits and holds a target while you shoot, and since October 1 it has its Aggressive mode back. Freezing Trap works in combat, which makes a bad pull easy to fix. Every public dungeon list puts Beast Mastery in S, the two from late October too, and it is the most forgiving damage spec in a group.

  • Strong
  • The pet holds adds off your healer
  • Freezing Trap in combat, 30 sec cooldown
  • Weak
  • Furious Howl gives 40% less attack power since September 24
  • Pets ignore group stat buffs

Talent build: Beast Mastery dungeons

Focus on pet damage with Summon Hawk, Frenzy and Bestial Wrath. Trueshot Aura adds ranged attack power for your party.

Open in the talent calculatorOpen the class guide

Marksmanship Hunter

DamageS

Medium confidenceA → SSim 996 · 79% of the top valuePublic lists: ASS for the spec

Marksmanship rises from A to S: both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in S next to Beast Mastery. Aimed Shot is a basic ability from level 20 in Forever and Multi-Shot covers packs, and the two share a cooldown. Sniper Shot hits from 45 yards and pushes your next three shots further. Your pet does less of the work than with Beast Mastery, so a bad pull forgives a little less.

  • Strong
  • Multi-Shot for packs
  • Damage from long range, safe from cleaves
  • Weak
  • Aimed Shot and Multi-Shot share a cooldown
  • Dead zone inside 8 yards

Talent build: Marksmanship dungeons

Focus on ranged damage with Sniper Shot and Mortal Shots. Lone Wolf increases your damage without an active pet, while Trueshot Aura adds ranged attack power for your party.

Survival Hunter

DamageA

Medium confidenceB → ASim 1264 · 100% of the top valuePublic lists: BAA for the spec

Survival rises from B to A: both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in A. It is the melee Hunter of Forever and stands in the cleave with the other melee, and its parry chance from Deflection was halved on October 1. Beast Mastery and Marksmanship still do the job with less risk.

  • Strong
  • Lacerating Strikes can crit since September 24
  • Strider Kick for speed when a pull goes wrong
  • Weak
  • Stands in melee cleaves
  • Fewer parries since October 1

Talent build: Survival ranged dungeons

Play at range with Lightning Reflexes for Agility and Mortal Shots for stronger ranged critical hits. Survivalist's Discipline reduces trap cooldowns for group control.

Rogue dungeon specs

Assassination Rogue

DamageA

Medium confidenceSim 914 · 72% of the top valuePublic lists: AAA for the spec

Assassination hits hard on single targets with Mutilate from level 40, and from 30 Venom makes your poisons stronger after each Shank. Kick stops a dangerous cast every 10 sec. Both public lists from late October put it in A as well. On big packs it trails Combat, which brings Blade Flurry.

  • Strong
  • Kick every 10 sec
  • Strong on single targets and bosses
  • Weak
  • Little damage on big packs
  • Needs daggers in both hands

Talent build: Mutilate poison PvE

Use Mutilate and Seal Fate to build Combo Points, then keep Venom active for stronger poisons. Vile Poisons adds poison damage and Improved Poisons raises application chance.

Combat Rogue

DamageA

Medium confidenceS → ASim 858 · 68% of the top valuePublic lists: SAA for the spec

Combat drops from S to A: both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in A, below the Hunters and Enhancement. Blade Flurry hits only a second target, and Adrenaline Rush at level 40 adds burst, not pack damage. Riposte adds damage after a parry. Simple to play and strong on packs of two or three.

  • Strong
  • Blade Flurry hits a second target
  • Kick and Kidney Shot to stop casters
  • Weak
  • Weaker on big packs than casters with area spells
  • Adrenaline Rush only from level 40

Talent build: Combat swords PvE

Keep Slice and Dice active and use Blade Flurry to hit a second nearby enemy. Hack and Slash gives sword attacks a chance at an extra attack, while Adrenaline Rush doubles Energy regeneration.

Subtlety Rogue

DamageB

Medium confidenceSim 892 · 71% of the top valuePublic lists: BBB for the spec

Subtlety is built for PvP. In a dungeon you still get Sap to take a mob out before the pull, but Premeditation and Preparation help openers and long cooldowns more than packs. Both public lists from late October put it in B as well.

  • Strong
  • Sap a mob before the pull
  • Kick and Kidney Shot like every Rogue
  • Weak
  • Little damage on packs
  • Its talents point at PvP

Talent build: Subtlety bleed PvE

Keep Rupture ticking with damage boosts from Serrated Blades and Hemorrhage. Boot Knife turns every Shank into 2 extra combo points, and Death Mark stores your damage for one big hit.

Priest dungeon specs

Discipline Priest

HealersS

Medium confidencePublic lists: SSS for the spec

Discipline holds S, and both public lists from late October agree. Penance comes at level 30 and Power Word: Shield soaks a pull before it lands. Priests can cure diseases, which beta players said the new Excavation Site asked for, and they called the new heals overtuned. On October 8 Penance was toned down: it had paid out like a 3 sec channel instead of 2 sec.

  • Strong
  • Power Word: Shield before the pull lands
  • Cure Disease for dungeons full of diseases
  • Weak
  • Cloth and few escapes
  • Penance only from level 30

Talent build: Discipline shield healer

Mix shields with Penance healing. Renewed Hope boosts healing crit chance on targets with Weakened Soul, and Divine Aegis turns critical heals into extra shields.

Holy Priest

HealersA

Medium confidencePublic lists: SAA for the spec

Holy brings the big Priest heals and a Renew that can crit since September 24, plus Cure Disease for dungeons with diseases such as the Excavation Site. One public list puts it in S, both from late October in A. Without Penance it has fewer answers to spike damage than Discipline.

  • Strong
  • Renew can crit
  • Cure Disease
  • Weak
  • No Penance
  • Cloth and few escapes

Talent build: Holy dungeon healer

Alternate healing spells to regain mana through Litany of Light. Holy Binding heals you for half of every Flash Heal you cast on others, while Prayer of Mending jumps between party or raid members as it heals.

Shadow Priest

DamageA

Low confidenceSim 823 · 65% of the top valuePublic lists: ABB for the spec

Shadow deals steady damage and Vampiric Embrace heals the whole group while you do it, which takes pressure off your healer. Silence and Psychic Scream handle casters and a bad pull. Both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put Shadow in B. We keep A with low confidence, because Shadowform only comes at level 40, so the beta never showed it.

  • Strong
  • Vampiric Embrace heals the group
  • Silence for dangerous casters
  • Weak
  • Weak on big packs
  • Shadowform only from level 40

Talent build: Shadow dungeon damage

Deal damage in Shadowform while Shadow Weaving makes the target take more Shadow damage from you. Improved Mind Flay makes each tick hit harder, while Meditation keeps mana regenerating during casts.

Shaman dungeon specs

Enhancement Shaman

DamageS

Medium confidenceA → SSim 1046 · 83% of the top valuePublic lists: ASS for the spec

Enhancement rises from A to S: both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put it in S. Stormstrike hits hard and boosts your next shock or bolt, and Windfury Totem helps every melee in the group. Earth Shock interrupts and Frost Shock holds a runner.

  • Strong
  • Windfury Totem for the melee
  • Earth Shock interrupt
  • Weak
  • Totems do not stack across two Shamans
  • Little area damage

Talent build: Enhancement dungeon melee

Mix melee attacks with Lightning Bolts made faster and cheaper by Maelstrom Weapon. Stormstrike boosts your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, or Earth Shock by 20%.

Restoration Shaman

HealersA

Medium confidencePublic lists: SAA for the spec

Chain Heal covers a whole group, and Riptide comes at level 40, a heal over time only since the launch changes of November 2, on a 12 sec cooldown and for about 40% less Mana. The Disease Cleansing Totem lasts 5 min now, and Earth Shock interrupts. One public list puts Restoration in S, both from late October in A.

  • Strong
  • Chain Heal for the group
  • Disease Cleansing Totem and an interrupt
  • Weak
  • Riptide only from level 40
  • Alliance gets Dwarves only

Talent build: Riptide dungeon healer

Use Riptide to heal over time and boost Chain Heal on that target by 25%. Water Shield restores mana from incoming hits or spell crits, while Mana Tide Totem supplies group mana.

Elemental Shaman

DamageA

Low confidenceSim 794 · 63% of the top valuePublic lists: AAB for the spec

Chain Lightning hits several targets and your totems help the whole group, though the same totem from two Shamans no longer stacks. The launch changes of November 2 remove Lava Burst and let Lightning Overload copy a bolt up to 30% of the time. Earth Shock interrupts. The public lists from late October split between A and B.

  • Strong
  • Chain Lightning for packs
  • Totems and an interrupt for the group
  • Weak
  • Lava Burst is gone
  • Totems do not stack across two Shamans

Talent build: Elemental dungeon caster

Call of Thunder adds 5% crit to Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning. Lightning Overload adds free extra hits, while Tidal Focus improves your spell hit chance.

Fire Mage

DamageA

Medium confidenceSim 915 · 72% of the top valuePublic lists: ABA for the spec

  • Strong
  • Flamestrike and Blast Wave for packs
  • Combustion with 3 charges
  • Weak
  • Less control than Frost
  • Ignite no longer double dips

Frost Mage

DamageA

Medium confidenceSim 715 · 57% of the top valuePublic lists: SBA for the spec

Frost controls a pack with Frost Nova, Cone of Cold and Blizzard, and Ice Block saves you when a pull goes wrong. Winter's Chill stacks only from Frostbolt and Ice Lance with Fingers of Frost, no longer from Blizzard, and each stack makes your next Cone of Cold hit 20% harder. Ice Lance deals 300% more damage to frozen targets again, on an 8 sec cooldown shared with Fire Blast. The public lists from late October split between A and B, so Frost stays at A.

  • Strong
  • Frost Nova and Cone of Cold hold packs
  • Ice Block for a bad pull
  • Weak
  • Blizzard no longer stacks Winter's Chill
  • Ice Lance has an 8 sec cooldown now

Talent build: Frost proc dungeons

Frostbolt and empowered Ice Lances stack Winter's Chill for a stronger Cone of Cold. Fingers of Frost gives Ice Lance and Shatter their Frozen bonus, and Missile Barrage adds free, faster Arcane Missiles.

  • Strong
  • A burst window with Arcane Power
  • Polymorph and Counterspell like every Mage
  • Weak
  • Behind Fire and Frost on packs
  • Arcane Explosion needs you in melee range

Warlock dungeon specs

Demonology Warlock

DamageA

Medium confidenceSim 943 · 75% of the top valuePublic lists: AAS for the spec

Demonology leans on your demon and on Soul Link, which sends 30% of the damage you take to your pet, so a bad pull rarely kills you. The public lists from late October split between S and A. Healthstones, a Soulstone and summons come with every Warlock.

  • Strong
  • Soul Link makes you hard to kill
  • Healthstones and a Soulstone
  • Weak
  • Less area damage than Destruction
  • Kill the demon and Soul Link is gone

Talent build: Demonology dungeon damage

Demonic Pact lets you keep a Demonic Sacrifice buff while fighting with a different demon. Below 35% enemy health, Decimation lets Shadow Bolt trigger faster, shard-free Soul Fire casts.

Affliction Warlock

DamageA

Medium confidenceSim 906 · 72% of the top valuePublic lists: ABA for the spec

Affliction spreads damage over time across a pack, and the new Wrack capstone makes it strong against several targets. Your demon tanks a stray mob and Fear peels one off the healer. Amplify Curse now adds only 20% to Curse of Exhaustion, not 50%, so the slow on a runner is weaker. The public lists from late October split between A and B.

  • Strong
  • Wrack for several targets
  • Healthstones and a Soulstone for the group
  • Weak
  • Slow to build damage on short pulls
  • Fear can pull extra mobs

Talent build: Affliction dungeon DoTs

Spread DoTs across enemies, then use Wrack to increase your other Shadow DoT damage on one target. Pandemic boosts the critical strike damage bonus of your DoTs and drains.

  • Shadowburn and Conflagrate for burst
  • Weak

Druid dungeon specs

Restoration Druid

HealersA

Medium confidenceB → APublic lists: ASA for the spec

Restoration rises from B to A for dungeons: of the two public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, one puts it in S and one in A, both above our old B. Rejuvenation, Tranquility and Wild Growth can crit since September 24. Wild Growth comes at level 40 and has a 3 sec cast since the launch changes of November 2, and Swiftmend only works on your own Rejuvenation or Regrowth. Druids still cannot cure diseases, as in Classic, so on disease-heavy pulls someone else has to clean up.

  • Strong
  • Heals over time that can crit
  • Innervate and a battle resurrection
  • Weak
  • No disease cure
  • Wild Growth only from level 40

Talent build: Wild Growth dungeon healer

Heal the target and nearby party members over time with Wild Growth. Swiftmend provides instant healing on a target with your own Rejuvenation or Regrowth, while Reflection keeps mana regenerating during casts.

Feral Combat Druid

DamageBTanksB

Low confidenceSim 990 · 78% of the top valuePublic lists: ABB for the spec

Feral can tank and deal damage in one spec. The launch changes of November 2 give Bear Form a 115% threat bonus (was 50%), because the Paladin blessing that lowered threat is gone, and raise Shred, Claw, Ravage, Rip, Rake and Ferocious Bite by about 25–30%. Primal Bite, the old Mangle, is now the 31 point bear talent at level 40, Lacerate a Feral talent at 25, and every form is immune to new Disarms. Crits give 100% more Rage and the hits you take give more Rage since October 8. Both public lists from late October put the cat and the bear in B as well, a flexible pick for both jobs.

  • Strong
  • Tank and damage in one spec
  • 115% threat bonus in Bear Form
  • Weak
  • Tiger's Fury is gone
  • Behind Protection Paladin and Warrior as a main tank

Talent build: Lacerate bear tank

Tank in bear form with Natural Reaction for dodge and Rage when you dodge. Lacerate stacks a bleed with high threat, and Primal Bite at the bottom of the tree hits hard and adds a lot of threat.

Balance Druid

DamageB

Low confidenceSim 789 · 62% of the top valuePublic lists: ACC for the spec

Moonkin Form gives your group 3% crit on all attacks and spells (it does not stack with Leader of the Pack), and Wrath deals about 50% more base damage since September 24. Moonkin Form only comes at level 40, though, and both public lists from late October, ranked at level 30, put Balance in C. We keep it at B with low confidence, because the beta never showed it with Moonkin Form.

  • Strong
  • 3% spell crit for the group in Moonkin Form
  • Innervate and a battle resurrection
  • Weak
  • Moonkin Form only from level 40
  • Little area damage

Talent build: Moonkin dungeon caster

Alternate Wrath and Starfire with Eclipse to shorten Starfire casts. Moonkin Form gives your party and raid 3% crit chance, while Reflection keeps some mana regeneration running during casts.

What moved and why

  1. Assassination gets Mutilate at level 40 now, as the last talent of its tree, and Venom at 30 makes your poisons stronger after each Shank. No tier moves.

  2. Checked against the launch client 1.60.1.70707 and the launch changes of November 2. No tier moves, the public dungeon lists did not change.

Reasons fixed: Lava Burst is gone, Ice Lance has an 8 sec cooldown and Winter's Chill makes your next Cone of Cold 20% stronger, Bear Form gets a 115% threat bonus and Defensive Stance 80%, Righteous Fury adds 33% to all threat, Wild Growth has a 3 sec cast and Riptide only heals over time.

  3. Checked against the two public dungeon lists of late October, ranked at level 30: Marksmanship and Enhancement rise from A to S, Arms and Survival from B to A, Restoration Druid from B to A for healing, and Combat drops from S to A. Each of them moves because both lists point the same way.

Shadow, Balance and Holy Paladin stay put although both lists rank them lower: Shadowform and Moonkin Form come at level 40 and Cleanse at 42, so the beta never showed them. Their confidence drops to low.

Champion of the Light gives 20/40/60% of your Intellect again, and Winter's Chill now stacks from Frostbolt, Frost Blast and empowered Ice Lance to boost your next Cone of Cold. Retribution and Frost keep their tiers with new reasons.

  4. The October 16 build changed a lot: Lava Burst comes at level 30, Frost Blast at 24 gives Mages a 40% slow, Arcane Blast was rebuilt, Fire Nova and Champion of the Light were cut, Righteous Fury makes more threat and the racials changed. No tier moves until this is tested.

  5. Bears get a 50% threat bonus (was 30%) and 100% more Rage from crits (was 75%), Warriors and bears more Rage from the hits they take, and Penance was toned down. No tier moves until this is tested.

  6. Rebuilt on three boards: damage, tanks and healers, with every damage spec on the list.

Fury Warrior rises from B to A after the October 1 rework, Discipline Priest from A to S, Beast Mastery from A to S.

New on the list: Combat Rogue at S, Frost Mage, Marksmanship, Shadow and every Warlock spec at A, and all healers.

Restoration Druid sits at B for dungeons: Druids cannot cure diseases, and beta players say the new dungeons are full of them.

  7. First version, ranked for the level 20 beta.
