Overview
Inside The Stockade
The inmates have taken over Stormwind's prison. Warden Thelwater holds the door on the canal and sends you in to clear the cellblocks of rioting Defias, led by Bazil Thredd, Edwin VanCleef's right hand. The prison is small. An entry corridor runs north to a junction, and from there one long hall curves east and west past the cells to a round room at each end. No long walks, just pull after pull of elite humanoids.
Five bosses wait in the cells. Targorr the Dread sits north of the junction, Kam Deepfury in the east hall, Hamhock in the east round room with Bazil Thredd in a cell next to him, and Dextren Ward at the west end. Bruegal Ironknuckle is a rare who only shows up on some runs, in a cell of the west hall. The bosses are level 24–29, and the rooms and the roster are the Classic ones.
What Forever changed is mostly the loot. Every boss now drops three or four blue items of its own, the old quest rewards are blue too, and three quests got a new reward choice. The Stockade does not count for any of the Spelunker achievements.
Level 24–32 is the range the dungeon is tuned for, not a minimum entry level. This is the Forever level range as it stands today. It can still shift before launch.
Forever vs Classic
What changed in The Stockade for WoW Forever
What is different from the Classic version you may know. Everything else works as it did in Classic.
Every boss has its own blue lootBeta data
In Classic only Kam Deepfury and the rare Bruegal Ironknuckle had named drops, the other bosses gave little more than their quest items. Forever adds 15 new blue items, three or four per boss. Targorr has the Executioner Mantle, the Blackrock Harness and the Dark Horde Band, Kam the Demolition Girdle and Bridgebreaker Bindings, and Hamhock drops Hamhock's Cleaver, Ogre Grips and a shield called Repurposed Rack. Dextren Ward has the Graverobber's Shovel, Boneslicer and the Nightskulker Ring, Bazil Thredd the Defias Jailbreakers, the Red Wool Cloak, Debt Collector and the Concealed Hand Crossbow. The shovel digs up graves at Raven Hill Cemetery and the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard. Beta players got a reagent from one grave and a level 30 ghoul from others.
Old drops got strongerBeta data
Kam's Walking Stick is blue now and binds on pickup. It has much more Agility, less Intellect, spell power and shorter snares on you, so feral druids and casters both look at it. Bruegal Ironknuckle's Jimmied Handcuffs, Prison Shank and Iron Knuckles hit a little harder and need two more levels, and the interrupt proc of the Iron Knuckles does a lot more damage.
Blue drops from the trashBeta data
All five kinds of Defias inside can drop Sharpened Cutlery, a new blue throwing weapon. The Defias Renegade Ring is blue now, binds on pickup and has more Agility and Stamina.
Better quest rewardsBeta data
Crime and Punishment, What Comes Around and The Fury Runs Deep each got a third choice: Town Clerk's Mittens, the Ursine Hammer and Magistrate's Pantaloons. The six Classic rewards of these quests, from Ambassador's Boots to Headbasher, are blue now and stronger.
Hamhock's Chain Lightning hits softer but fasterBeta data
The Forever tooltip of Chain Lightning shows less than half of the Classic damage, but the cast takes 2 seconds instead of 2.5. Interrupts have to come quicker, the damage on the group is lower.
Defias Captives make you take more damageBeta data
Infected Wound from the Defias Captives now adds 21 physical damage to every hit the target takes for 5 minutes, 40% more than in Classic.
New Stormwind map, new coordinatesBeta data
Forever's Stormwind map has a new frame that shows the harbor, so every /way number from a Classic guide points to the wrong spot. The portal that Classic guides put at about 39.6, 53.9 is at about 50.4, 66.2 on the Forever map. The Redridge Mountains moved a little too, Guard Berton stands at about 21.2, 46.6.
Less quest bonus, more kill experienceConfirmed
Since October 1 dungeon quests give half of their bonus experience. Before October 8 one beta player went from 24 to 25 with two full runs and every quest, and the mobs gave 35–39 experience each at that level. Dungeon kills pay more since October 8: about 20% more experience, and in a group your own level decides your kill experience, not the highest player in the party. One player far above the mobs' level still means no experience for anyone in the group.
Location
Where is The Stockade? Entrance and how to get there
The Stockade sits under Stormwind, in the prison building on the canal between the Mage Quarter and the Trade District. Warden Thelwater waits at the door at about 51.6, 69.4. Go inside and down the steps to the portal at about 50.4, 66.2.
Now you can move the map.
No spawn points on the map for this one.
- 1Fly to Stormwind, the gryphon master stands in the Trade District at about 71.6, 72.3. From Ironforge the Deeprun Tram brings you to the Dwarven District.
- 2Walk west through the Trade District to the canal. The prison building stands on the bank toward the Mage Quarter.
- 3Talk to Warden Thelwater at the door at about 51.6, 69.4 and take Quell the Uprising.
- 4Go inside and down the steps to the portal at about 50.4, 66.2.
- 1Take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar or from Undercity to Grom'gol Base Camp in Stranglethorn Vale. There is no Horde flight path closer to Stormwind.
- 2Run and swim north along the coast into Westfall, then cross Elwynn Forest to Stormwind.
- 3Get past the city guards. They are far above your level, so expect a few deaths. Some players swim in from the harbor side instead of using the main gate.
- 4Make your way to the canal between the Mage Quarter and the Trade District and down to the portal at about 50.4, 66.2. The Group Finder lists the Stockade for the Alliance only, so form your group before the trip.

Group Finder
In Classic a meeting stone stood by the prison door. No meeting stone shows up in Stormwind in Forever, and summoning stones are switched off in the beta anyway, so walk in or let a warlock summon. The Group Finder lists the Stockade from level 23.
After a wipe
Stormwind has no spirit healer of its own on the beta map. The closest ones stand in Elwynn Forest, between the city and Goldshire at about 39.5, 60.5, and in Northshire. Nobody has reported yet where a wipe in the Stockade sends you. Either way the run back through the city gate and across the canals is short for the Alliance and risky for the Horde.
Map and route
The route through the dungeon
7 areas, one path. Tap a stop to see what waits there.

Area 1 of 7
Entrance hall
The hall at the bottom of the steps with the portal. Nothing waits here, so buff, set your marks and agree on CC before the first pull.
Area 2 of 7
Central cellblock
The corridor north to the junction, with two cells on each side full of Defias Prisoners and Captives. Clear it completely before you turn east or west, it is the way back for every runner.
Area 3 of 7
North cell
The cell straight north of the junction. In Classic Targorr the Dread usually sits here with a few Defias, but some reports put him in a side room, so check the cells around the junction if he is missing. In Classic the Defias in his room can be pulled without him.
Boss here
BetaSpot from beta reports, it can still change
Area 4 of 7
East cellblock
The hall curving east with four cells. Kam Deepfury waits in a cell on the north side. Convicts and Insurgents only live on this side of the prison, so this is where Quell the Uprising gets done.
Boss here
Area 5 of 7
East round room
The round room at the east end with three cells. Hamhock stands in the room with two Defias next to him, and Bazil Thredd waits with his guards in the south-east cell. Clear the room before you pull either boss.
Area 6 of 7
West cellblock
The hall curving west, mostly Defias Inmates with some Prisoners and Captives. Look into the north cells for Bruegal Ironknuckle, the rare spawns here when he is up.
Area 7 of 7
West round room
The round room at the west end with three cells. In Classic Dextren Ward waits in the west cell, but reports disagree on his spot, and some say he does not spawn on every run. Clear every cell here before you pull him.

Main bosses5

Targorr the Dread is a dual-wielding orc in the cell north of the junction and the target of What Comes Around from Lakeshire.
Tactics
- In Classic a few Defias stand around him. CC one, tank Targorr away from it and kill the free add first.
- Thrash gives him two extra attacks at once, so the tank takes damage in bursts.
- In Classic he enrages near the end of the fight. Save a defensive cooldown or a big heal for the last part.
Tank
Pull him away from the CC target and keep a cooldown for the enrage.
Healer
Keep the tank high, Thrash bursts come without warning.
Damage
Kill the free add, then go all in on Targorr.
Watch out for: A Thrash burst on a low tank during the enrage.
Notable loot
Executioner Mantle · Shoulder
Blackrock Harness · Chest
Dark Horde Band · Finger

Kam Deepfury is a Dark Iron shield warrior in the east hall. Motley Garmason in the Wetlands wants his head, and he drops Kam's Walking Stick.
Abilities
- Defensive Stance · Assumes a defensive stance that generates rage when the warrior is hit, as well as reducing rage decay while the warrior is out of combat. Lasts 3 min.
- Improved Blocking · Increases the caster's chance to block by 75% for 6 sec.
- Shield Slam · Inflicts damage to an enemy, stunning it for 2 sec.
Tactics
- In Classic a few Defias share his cell. CC one and kill the other first.
- Improved Blocking raises his block chance by 75% for 6 seconds. Melee can hold big cooldowns until it fades.
- Shield Slam stuns its target for 2 seconds. It is a slow fight, not a dangerous one.
Tank
Keep the adds on you and expect short stuns from Shield Slam.
Healer
Heal through the stun, the tank cannot react for 2 seconds.
Watch out for: Fighting him with both adds loose.
Notable loot
Kam's Walking Stick · Two-Hand
Demolition Girdle · Waist
Bridgebreaker Bindings · Wrist

Hamhock is a two-headed ogre shaman in the east round room and the boss that wipes groups in the beta.
Abilities
- Chain Lightning · Hurls a lightning bolt at the enemy, dealing Nature damage and then jumping to additional nearby enemies. Each jump reduces the damage by 30%. Affects 3 total targets.
- Bloodlust · Increases an ally's attack speed by 30% for 30 sec.
Tactics
- In the beta he fights with two adds. A group of five level 20 warlocks without a tank wiped on him on September 22.
- In Classic two Defias flank him. CC one and kill the other before you turn on Hamhock.
- Interrupt Chain Lightning. It jumps to three targets, and its cast is shorter than in Classic. Spread out so it hits fewer people.
- Bloodlust speeds up the attacks of Hamhock or an add by 30% for 30 seconds. Purge or dispel it if you can.
Tank
Hold Hamhock and the free add and turn them away from the group.
Healer
Stand apart from the melee and watch the players Chain Lightning jumps to.
Damage
Kill the free add first and keep an interrupt ready for every Chain Lightning.
Watch out for: Hamhock and both adds loose at the same time.
Notable loot
Hamhock's Cleaver · Main Hand
Ogre Grips · Hands
Repurposed Rack · Shield

Dextren Ward is a human warrior at the west end of the prison. Councilman Millstipe in Darkshire wants his hand. In Classic he does not appear on every run.
Abilities
- Battle Stance · Assumes a balanced combat stance that generates rage when the warrior is hit, as well as when the warrior strikes an opponent. Lasts until canceled.
- Strike · Strikes at an enemy, inflicting weapon damage
- Intimidating Shout · Shouts at an enemy, paralyzing it with terror for 8 sec. and causing all other nearby enemies to flee in fear.
- Intimidating Shout
Tactics
- Clear the cells around his room first. Intimidating Shout freezes his target in terror for 8 seconds and sends everyone near it running.
- Feared players run into whatever is still standing, so a cleared room turns the fear into a short delay.
- Strike adds damage to a normal hit, so the tank still takes real damage between shouts.
Tank
Fight him in the middle of the cleared room, away from the cell doors.
Healer
Top everyone up after each shout, the fear stops your heals too.
Damage
Run back to the tank as soon as the fear ends.
Watch out for: A fear into cells you did not clear.
Notable loot
Graverobber's Shovel · Two-Hand
Boneslicer · Two-Hand
Nightskulker Ring · Finger

Bazil Thredd is VanCleef's lieutenant and at level 29 the highest boss in the prison. He waits in the south-east cell, and his head ends The Stockade Riots.
Abilities
- Smoke Bomb · Casts a smoke bomb, stunning nearby enemies for 4 sec.
- Battle Shout · Increases the melee attack power of nearby party members for 2 min.
Tactics
- In Classic a Defias Insurgent and a Defias Inmate guard him. Pull the Inmate away or CC it, then kill the Insurgent before you turn on Bazil.
- Battle Shout from Bazil and the Insurgent buffs the whole pack.
- Smoke Bomb stuns everyone near him for 4 seconds. Keep the tank topped up before it lands, he hits hard.
Tank
Face him away from the group and save a cooldown for the stun.
Healer
Stand out of melee range so Smoke Bomb does not catch you.
Damage
Kill the guards first, then burn Bazil.
Watch out for: Smoke Bomb landing on a low tank.
Notable loot
Defias Jailbreakers · Hands
Red Wool Cloak · Back
Debt Collector · Main Hand
Concealed Hand Crossbow · Ranged
Rare spawns1

Bruegal Ironknuckle is a dwarf rare in a north cell of the west hall. When he is up he drops the Jimmied Handcuffs, the Prison Shank or the Iron Knuckles.
Tactics
- He has no special abilities. Clear the Defias around his cell, then tank and spank.
- In Classic he spawned rarely, and players reported waits of eight hours and more. Look into his cell on every run.
Notable loot
Jimmied Handcuffs · Wrist
Prison Shank · One-Hand
Iron Knuckles · One-Hand
Trash
Dangerous trash and diseases
Most wipes here start before a boss. These are the packs and effects to respect.
Defias Prisoners
They fill the central cells. Disarm takes the tank's weapon for 6 seconds, and Kick stops a heal or a cast and locks that school for 5 seconds. Give the tank time to build threat and CC one in bigger pulls.

Defias Captives
They come with the Prisoners in the central and west cells. Infected Wound makes every hit on its target hurt more for 5 minutes, so kill them first and keep them on the tank.

Defias Convicts
Backhand stuns for 2 seconds. Convicts only show up in the east hall and the east round room, mixed with Insurgents, so east pulls are bigger than they look.

Defias Insurgents
The highest level trash at 25–26. Battle Shout buffs the whole pack and Demoralizing Shout lowers your melee attack power. Kill them first in every east pull.

Defias Inmates
The most common mob, they fill the west hall and the west round room. Rend bleeds the target for 15 seconds. Pull one cell at a time in the curved hall so you never fight two cells at once.

Quests
The Stockade quests
Six quests send you into the Stockades, all of them for the Alliance. Two start in Stormwind, at the prison door and in Old Town, the others in Darkshire, Lakeshire and Dun Modr. The Stockade Riots also needs two steps of the Defias chain that begins with VanCleef's letter in the Deadmines. The Horde has no quest here.

Loot

Every boss drop and every quest reward of the dungeon. Hover an item for its stats.
The rings are the Dark Horde Band from Targorr for casters, the Nightskulker Ring from Dextren Ward against fears and the Defias Renegade Ring from the trash for Agility users. Casters also look at Kam's Walking Stick and Bazil Thredd's Red Wool Cloak and Debt Collector, leather wearers at the Defias Jailbreakers and the Executioner Mantle, hunters at the Concealed Hand Crossbow. If you need more than one of these pieces, that means several runs and a new group each time. Our WoW Forever dungeon boost services give you a group that is ready to go.
Beta drop chances come from a handful of kills and are left out until the sample is bigger.
Before you go
Before you go
- Pick up the quests on the wayDarkshire, Lakeshire and Dun Modr are far from Stormwind, so grab those quests while you level nearby. Warden Thelwater and Nikova Raskol are right in the city.
- Bring crowd controlEvery Defias here is a humanoid. Sap, Polymorph and Freezing Trap work, Shackle Undead and Hibernate do not. Mark one CC target per pull in the bigger east packs.
- Bring interrupts and a purgeHamhock's Chain Lightning needs an interrupt every time, and a purge or dispel for his Bloodlust makes the fight much calmer.
- Plan for the fearDextren Ward's Intimidating Shout scatters the group. Clear the west end first and keep fear breakers ready.
- Keep a snare or stun ready. In Classic wounded Defias run for help at low health and bring the next cell.
- Kill Hamhock before you open Bazil Thredd's cell, so you never fight two bosses at once.
- Check every cell on the way. Targorr, Dextren and Bruegal do not always stand in the same spot.
Known beta issues
Trash respawns in slow runs. On September 22 a group of five warlocks reported that cleared trash began to come back before they reached Hamhock. Nobody has timed the respawns yet, so keep the pace up and do not leave a half-cleared hall behind you.
FAQ
Questions players ask
What level is The Stockade in WoW Forever?
The Group Finder lists it from level 23. The bosses are level 24–29 and the quests level 25–29, so most groups go at about 24–29. The Fury Runs Deep needs level 25 because of its pre-quest.
Where is the Stockades entrance?
In Stormwind, in the prison building on the canal between the Mage Quarter and the Trade District. Warden Thelwater stands at the door at about 51.6, 69.4, and the portal is inside at the bottom of the steps at about 50.4, 66.2. In Classic a meeting stone marked the door.
Can Horde players do the Stockades?
Yes, as in Classic the portal lets the Horde in, but the trip is hard. There is no Horde flight path nearby, the Group Finder lists the dungeon for the Alliance only and there are no Horde quests, so you walk in from Grom'gol past Stormwind's guards.
What quests are there for the Stockades, and where do you pick them up?
Six Alliance quests: Quell the Uprising and The Stockade Riots from Warden Thelwater at the prison door, The Color of Blood from Nikova Raskol in Old Town, Crime and Punishment from Councilman Millstipe in Darkshire, What Comes Around from Guard Berton in Lakeshire and The Fury Runs Deep from Motley Garmason at Dun Modr.
How do you start The Stockade Riots?
Kill Edwin VanCleef in the Deadmines and loot An Unsent Letter. Bring it to Baros Alexston in Stormwind, who sends you to Warden Thelwater with the quest Bazil Thredd. Thelwater then gives you The Stockade Riots.
What drops in The Stockade, and what is new in Forever?
Every boss now drops three or four new blue items, 15 in all, from the Executioner Mantle on Targorr to the Concealed Hand Crossbow on Bazil Thredd. Kam's Walking Stick and Bruegal Ironknuckle's three items were reworked, and the trash can drop Sharpened Cutlery.
Which rings drop in The Stockade?
Three. The Dark Horde Band from Targorr the Dread is a caster ring with spell power and Stamina. The Nightskulker Ring from Dextren Ward makes fears miss you more often. The Defias Renegade Ring with Agility and Stamina drops from the Defias trash.
How many bosses are in The Stockade?
Five: Targorr the Dread, Kam Deepfury, Hamhock, Dextren Ward and Bazil Thredd. Bruegal Ironknuckle is a sixth, a rare who does not show up on every run.
How long does a full Stockade clear take?
About 20–30 minutes. The prison is small and has no long walks, a group that knows the way is faster.
Can you run the Stockades without a tank?
A beta group of five level 20 warlocks tried it on September 22 and wiped on Hamhock and his two adds. A tank and a healer at about level 24 make it a much smoother run.
Why does Motley Garmason not offer The Fury Runs Deep?
He only gives it after The Dark Iron War, his elite group quest of level 30 that needs level 25. Do that one first at Dun Modr in the Wetlands, or leave Kam Deepfury's quest for a later run.
