Overview
Inside Blackrock Depths
The Dark Iron capital has the layout of a working city rather than a single corridor of fights. Prisons, mines, workshops, a tavern and royal chambers all have their place here. Shadowforge City's scale makes the run memorable, with its industrial districts giving way to the seat of a dwarven empire.
Ragnaros casts a long shadow over life in the depths. The Dark Irons smelt their namesake ore at the black forge and labor alongside the Firelord's elemental servants. Much of the complex was built by Franclorn Forgewright, whose legacy sits alongside the clan's dangerous allegiance to the power beneath the mountain.
Getting there
Head to the lowest part of Blackrock Mountain. Cross the chain to the central island, then follow the path down to the ledge just above the lava. Follow that ledge into and through the Grinding Quarry to reach the instance portal.
Show on the mapLevel 52–60 is the range the dungeon is tuned for, not a minimum entry level. This is the Forever level range as it stands today. It can still shift before launch.

Before you go
- Agree on the routeDecide which quest objectives and side encounters the group wants before entering. A targeted run needs a different plan from a full clear.
- Set aside enough timeA full clear takes about 120-180 minutes. Make sure everyone can stay for the planned route before committing.
- Collect shared questsCheck Dark Iron Legacy, The Heart of the Mountain, A Taste of Flame and The Spectral Chalice before leaving. These quests are open to both factions.
- Check faction objectivesAlliance players should check Marshal Windsor, Incendius! and Hurley Blackbreath. Horde players should check Commander Gor'shak, Disharmony of Fire and Operation: Death to Angerforge.
- Entering the Ring of Law starts an arena event with three waves of non-elite enemies followed by one of six possible bosses. Do not step in while the group is still getting ready.
- Light both Lyceum braziers with the Shadowforge Torch to open the two northeastern doors leading to the Iron Hall.
- Miners can check for Dark Iron veins around the Black Anvil. Agree on gathering stops so the group does not move on while someone is mining.
