Overview
Inside Scarlet Monastery: Armory
The Armory is where the Scarlet Crusade trains and arms its soldiers. Behind the locked door on the right of the monastery hall you cross the Grand Vestibule and the Training Grounds, then two armory halls full of Protectors, Guardsmen, Evokers, Myrmidons and Defenders, and end in the Hall of Champions. Herod waits there, the only boss of the wing. The way is short and linear, the pulls are not: packs come in twos and threes, many mobs patrol and most of them run at low health.
Herod is level 40 and the trash 35–38, well above the beta cap of 30. Blizzard lists the monastery as available, but nobody has reported an Armory run on the beta up to October 3, so the tactics here are the Classic ones. Killing Herod counts for the Experienced Spelunker achievement.
Forever reworked Herod's loot and gave the Chain of the Scarlet Crusade new set bonuses. Herod's Shoulder is missing from the Forever loot.
Level 36–44 is the range the dungeon is tuned for, not a minimum entry level. This is the Forever level range as it stands today. It can still shift before launch.
Forever vs Classic
What changed in Scarlet Monastery: Armory for WoW Forever
What is different from the Classic version you may know. Everything else works as it did in Classic.
Herod's loot was reworkedBeta data
Ravager still spins you into a whirlwind on hit, but now slows your movement by 80% while it spins. The Raging Berserker's Helm has critical strike rating in place of its flat crit chance, and the Scarlet Leggings, which drop from Herod and Mograine, are a little stronger and need level 39.
New bonuses for the Scarlet setBeta data
The Chain of the Scarlet Crusade has new set bonuses in the Forever data: Shadow resistance for two pieces, attack power against undead for three, a chance on taking damage to gain Enraging Light for four, which adds Holy damage to your melee hits for 10 seconds and three times as much against undead, more hit chance for five, and an absorb shield when you fall to 20% health for six, once every 4 minutes. The Scarlet Belt, Gauntlets and Wristguards are blue now. No beta report of a set piece dropping has come in yet.
Hotter fire, weaker healsBeta data
The Scarlet Evokers' Fire Shield burns more than half again as hard as in Classic, while their Flamestrike hits a little softer. The Protectors' Holy Light heals about an eighth less, and Herod's Rushing Charge barely changed.
Less bonus XP from dungeon questsConfirmed
Since October 1 dungeon quests give half of their bonus experience. Herod counts for both big kill quests of the monastery, so run the Armory with Into The Scarlet Monastery or In the Name of the Light in your log.
Location
Where is Scarlet Monastery: Armory? Entrance and how to get there
The Armory is the locked door on the right side of the Scarlet Monastery hall, at about 85.7, 31.9. The monastery stands in the far north-east of Tirisfal Glades, and the hall is at the top of the stairs at about 85.1, 31.4. Bring The Scarlet Key from the Library. In Classic a rogue can also pick the lock.
Now you can move the map.
No spawn points on the map for this one.

- 3Follow the road to the dirt path north at about 66.0, 59.5 and up to the monastery.
- 4Climb the stairs into the hall and open the locked door on the right with The Scarlet Key.

Group Finder
The Group Finder has one entry for the whole monastery at level 30 and none for the Armory alone. The monastery lets you in from level 20, but Herod is level 40.
After a wipe
The spirit healer stands south-west of the monastery at about 79.0, 40.8. Run back up the hill and the stairs and through the right door again. In Classic the Armory trash respawns, so do not stop for long after a wipe.
Map and route
The route through the dungeon
5 areas, one path. Tap a stop to see what waits there.

Area 1 of 5
The Grand Vestibule
Behind the locked door lies the Grand Vestibule. It is quiet in Classic, a good spot to buff and mark.
Area 2 of 5
Training Grounds
The open Training Grounds are packed with Scarlet Soldiers, with a Conjuror among them. Pull small groups from the edge of the yard.
Area 3 of 5
Footman's Armory
The halls of the Footman's Armory hold Protectors, Guardsmen and Evokers. Most pulls here have a healer or a caster in them.
Area 4 of 5
Crusader's Armory
The Crusader's Armory and the corridor to Herod hold the biggest packs of the wing, Myrmidons and Defenders with a few Evokers.
Encounters
Boss roster
Main bosses1

Herod, the Scarlet Champion, is the only boss of the Armory and waits in the Hall of Champions.
Abilities
- Rushing Charge · Increases the caster's movement speed by 180% for 4 sec. and causes it to inflict an additional damage on its first attack.
- Enrage · Increases the caster's attack speed by 60% and the Physical damage it deals for 2 min.
- Whirlwind · Attacks nearby enemies in a whirlwind of steel that lasts 10 sec., inflicting weapon damage every 2 sec. Grants the caster temporary magic immunity.
- Cleave · Inflicts weapon damage to an enemy and its nearest ally.
Tactics
- In Classic he opens with Rushing Charge on the first target. Tank him in the middle of the room, ranged stand on the stairs or the first platform.
- When he shouts Blades of Light he spins in Whirlwind for about 10 seconds. Melee and tank run out, nobody tanks the spin.
- Cleave hits the tank and the player next to it, and Enrage near the end makes him attack much faster. Save your cooldowns for it.
- When he dies, about 20 Scarlet Trainees rush into the room. Group up, let the tank grab them and AoE them down. Do not leave the room during the fight, in Classic he sprints after you.
Tank
Keep him in the middle and step out of melee when he spins.
Healer
Stay at range and heal the melee who are too slow to leave the Whirlwind.
Damage
Back off for the spin, then burn him and get ready for the Trainees.
Watch out for: Melee caught in Whirlwind, and the Trainee wave on a group without AoE.

Notable loot
Ravager · Two-Hand
Raging Berserker's Helm · Head
Scarlet Leggings · Legs
Trash
Dangerous trash and diseases
Most wipes here start before a boss. These are the packs and effects to respect.
Soldiers and Conjurors
The yard is packed with Scarlet Soldiers whose Improved Blocking makes them slow to kill. A Scarlet Conjuror summons a Fire Elemental. Kill the Conjuror first and keep the pulls small.

Protectors and Guardsmen
Protectors heal with Holy Light and give their pack Devotion Aura, Guardsmen Disarm the tank. Interrupt or CC the Protector.

Scarlet Evokers
Evokers cast Flamestrike on the group and Fire Shield on their friends, which burns every melee around the shielded mob. Get out of the fire and kill or interrupt the Evokers first.

Myrmidons and Defenders
Myrmidons enrage and throw Net-o-Matic, Defenders block a lot and Shield Bash casters. These last packs before Herod are the largest of the wing.

Quests
Scarlet Monastery: Armory quests
Two quests need Herod: Into The Scarlet Monastery for the Horde and In the Name of the Light for the Alliance. Both also need Loksey in the Library and Mograine and Whitemane in the Cathedral. Hearts of Zeal drop here too. The full monastery list, with the wing each quest needs, is on the Graveyard page.
Every Scarlet Monastery quest with the wing it needs
Known issue: Into The Scarlet Monastery has no rewards. The Horde quest from Varimathras still points at three Classic rewards that do not exist in Forever. Herod still counts for it, but what it gives besides Undercity reputation is unknown.

Before you go
Before you go
- Get the key firstThe door stays shut without The Scarlet Key from Doan's Strongbox in the Library, or a rogue who can pick it.
- Bring AoEThe Scarlet Trainees after Herod come in one big wave. Mages, warlocks, paladins and warriors with area damage make it short.
- Bring interrupts and CCProtectors heal and Evokers burn the group. Everything here is humanoid, so Polymorph, Sap and Freezing Trap all work.
- Plan for runnersMost Armory mobs run at low health. Keep a snare or stun ready so they do not bring the next pack.
- Watch the patrols in the armory halls and pull only when they have walked away.
- Ranged stand on the stairs in Herod's room, out of reach of the Whirlwind.
- Stay together after Herod dies, the Trainees run straight at the healer if the tank is far away.
Known beta issues
Herod's Shoulder is missing. Herod's Shoulder, his Classic shoulder drop, does not exist in the Forever data, and players noticed it on October 3. Until it turns up, Herod drops the three items in the loot table.
