Overview

Inside Stratholme: Service Gate

Stratholme was once one of Lordaeron's greatest cities and the birthplace of the Order of the Silver Hand. Arthas slaughtered its plague-stricken citizens during the Third War, leaving a burning ruin that became a Scourge stronghold. The streets now belong to the undead, including former defenders raised against the people they once protected.

The run moves through ziggurat defenses before reaching the abominations, Ramstein, and the slaughterhouse beyond. That progression gives the wing a clear shape, from street fighting to the final push against its death knight ruler. At the upper end of Azeroth's leveling path, the challenge shifts between controlling extra enemies, surviving heavy physical hits, and keeping casters working through disruptive abilities.

Getting there

Head to Plaguewood in Eastern Plaguelands and find Eastwall Gate. The Service Gate instance portal is inside that gate, giving you a direct entrance to Stratholme's undead wing.

Level 58–60 is the range the dungeon is tuned for, not a minimum entry level. This is the Forever level range as it stands today. It can still shift before launch.

Magistrate Barthilas is Stratholme's former magistrate, raised as a wight after the city's culling. His fight combines disruptive melee attacks with a dangerous health drain.

Abilities

  • Crowd Pummel · Pummels nearby enemies for normal damage plus 269 and interrupts any spell being cast 75% of the time for 5 sec.
  • Mighty Blow · Inflicts normal damage plus 25 to an enemy, knocking it back.
  • Furious Anger
  • Draining Blow · Drains 6729 health from an enemy, transferring it to the caster.

Tactics

  • Keep casters outside the nearby Crowd Pummel to avoid having spells interrupted.
  • In Classic, Mighty Blow also disrupts threat, so anyone who gains aggro after the knockback should run toward the tank rather than away.

Tank

Tank with your back against a wall so Mighty Blow cannot punt you into skipped enemies.

Healer

Keep enough healing ready to recover the target of Draining Blow, which also restores Barthilas's health.

Baroness Anastari

BossLevel 59

1 ability3 loot items

Baroness Anastari is the banshee guarding one of Stratholme's ziggurats. Banshee Curse reduces nearby players' chance to hit with attacks for 12 seconds.

Abilities

  • Banshee Curse · Reduces nearby enemies' chance to hit with attacks by 10% for 12 sec.

Tactics

  • In Classic, she possesses a party member, and damaging that player to half health or keeping them under humanoid CC until possession expires ends the phase.
  • Choose between damage and CC before the possession starts so the group does not work against itself.
  • Mages can use Ice Block and paladins can use Divine Shield to clear possession on themselves.
  • Use powerful offensive cooldowns against her before possession gives her a chance to turn them on the party.

Damage

Push damage while she is in banshee form to limit the number of possession cycles.

The Black Guard Swordsmith is an armored skeleton encountered on Stratholme's Scourge side.

Tactics

  • Clear enemies around the plans before anyone interacts with them.

Nerub'enkan

BossLevel 60

4 abilities3 loot items

Nerub'enkan is a crypt fiend protecting one of the three ziggurats that guard access to the Slaughter House.

Abilities

Tactics

  • Deal with the eight Crypt Scarabs summoned to help the boss rather than leaving them to attack freely.
  • Encasing Webs roots its target and slows their attacks for 6 seconds, so do not depend on that player to move immediately.

Tank

Use defensive tools while Pierce Armor is active, since it sharply reduces your armor for 20 seconds.

Damage

In Classic, Nerub'enkan is immune to stuns and immobilization, so do not build your control plan around stopping the boss.

Notable loot

Maleki the Pallid

5Boss 5 of 8

Maleki the Pallid

BossLevel 61

5 abilities5 loot items

Maleki the Pallid is a mortal human caster using Frost and Shadow magic. His drains attack both the group's health and its mana reserves.

Abilities

  • Chilled
  • Ice Tomb · Stuns an enemy, rendering it unable to move or attack for 10 sec.
  • Drain Life · Drains 12920 health from an enemy over 5 sec., transferring it to the caster.
  • Drain Mana · Drains up to 33540 mana from an enemy over 5 sec. and transfers it to the caster.
  • Frostbolt · Inflicts Frost damage to an enemy and reduces its movement speed for 4 sec.

Tactics

  • Prioritize stopping Drain Life over Frostbolt, since the drain damages its target while healing Maleki.
  • Shut down Drain Mana quickly to preserve the targeted caster's resources.
  • Frostbolt slows movement for 4 seconds, so allow extra time to reposition after it hits.

Healer

Watch who gets Ice Tomb, especially if its 10-second stun leaves another player unable to help the group.

  • Ranged players should stay clear of Trample, which damages nearby enemies.

Tank

Choose a position with room behind you for Knockout's knockback.

Healer

Prepare for Knockout's heavy hit and the following 6-second stun.

  • Unholy Aura · Causes the caster to automatically inflict 150 Shadow damage every 2 sec. to nearby enemies. The aura lasts until cancelled.

  • Ranged players should work outside Unholy Aura's reach to avoid its repeated Shadow damage.

Tank

Keep a defensive tool ready for Mortal Strike's heavy weapon hit.

Healer

Mortal Strike reduces healing received for 5 seconds, so account for weaker heals during that window.

Before you go

Before you go

  • Leave time for the clearAllow about 55 to 80 minutes for a full clear. Set aside that time before starting rather than planning around a quick boss stop.
  • Check your quest logPick up relevant Stratholme quests before heading out, including The Medallion of Faith, The Flesh Does Not Lie, The Active Agent, and Houses of the Holy. Agree on quest objectives with the group so everyone knows what the run needs to cover.
  • Assign interrupt coverageSet a kick order for Maleki rather than having everyone interrupt the same cast. Keep a backup ready when the first player is disabled.
  • Do not rely on an instance portal icon on the zone map to find the service entrance.
  • In Classic, both Stratholme entrances share one instance and remember your first entrance, so resetting the instance before a fresh run clears an unwanted Main Gate entry point.
  • Horde players should check for the level 60 quest Ramstein before the run.
